This comment got me to thinking about the many incredible compilations that seemed to have went entirely unnoticed for the majority. The 90s supplied us with an endless amount of classic soundtracks, attached to their respective, and just as classic films, and for the most part featured all original music. The same went for compilations like Pump Ya Fist, A.I.D.S. or D&D Project.
While these days, kids are guido pumping their fists due to intelligence-hindering programming, kids in the mid 90s were pumping their fists for a greater cause; while the artists sought to teach the youth about knowledge of themselves. Pump Ya Fist gathered up artists who were making a positive impact on both sides of the two opposing coasts, and with the exception of one track, created an outstanding compilation. My personal favorites are selected for your listening pleasure below; now if I could just get my hands on a copy of this baby. Peace to the 7s & Earths.

@Gamelectronica its not about jeru, but premo. dude owned the fucking 90′s. everything he touched the entire decade was fucking amazing.
NEED TO HEAR THAT CLASSIC JOINT OFF THE PANTHER OST….THE POINTS!
True JoLo, Premier made everything knock, everything was just gold, classic with that man, but Jeru was fucking immense!!!
I like..
I never got the appeal of rakim. I know hes a legend and all but his flow is boring as fuck and a lot of the time his subject matter is punchlines or talking about getting paid.
Jeru on the other hand though… Jeru is probably the most slept on MC of all time. knowxone you gotta up Come Clean! One of the best hip hop songs ever.
THANKS FOR PUTTING THIS UP! it’s great to see people recognize good 90s rap that wasn’t mainstream. all that “(2)Deep” is great. thanks.
@Pete C. Read Rakim’s lyrics and you’ll get the appeal. You may not like his flow , which is fine. But lyrically, he changed the entire scheme of how dudes started rhyming and writing.
Greeat post man, thanks for this one
