Young Guru Gives Details On Watch the Throne (Video)

During some downtime at SXSW, Young Guru talks to VIBE about the status of Jay-Z and Kanye’s upcoming album. Stating the core of the album is finished, and how Kanye is a genius at what he does.

Kanye takes what they do and adds on to it and I think that’s his genius. I say this all the time ‘Kanye records are never the same twice, while he’s making them because they always grow.’

He also hints at another project from Jay-Z in the future.

Jay’s a consummate thinker, so sometimes he’ll call and be like ‘yo what do yo think about this.’ And he said this idea to me that I wish I could tell the world about. Some ideas are so simple and in-your-face, that they’re so incredibly smart, Guru continues. “So this next idea— when you hear this title — the world is going to say ‘why didn’t Jay think of that for the first album.’ The title and concept just fits in perfectly. It’s so simple, but yet so elegant at the same time. [Jay] can’t stop, it’s in his blood.

Jay-Z – Most Kingz f. Chris Martin (prod. DJ Green Lantern)

This was featured on Green Lantern’s new Invasion Radio 2k10 mixtape;; but I wanted to give it some more shine as the back story is quite interesting. The vocals for this were originally recorded for Kingdom Come, but never made the cut as a beat was never found. Pieces of the verses ended up on the Grammy Family freestyle on Hot97 w/ Funk Flex in 2006 as well as Coldplay’s Lost (rmx).

“This is my version working with the acapella…I’ve had this since 2006 and it was supposed to be on the Presidential Invasion mixtape–that never came out. Then Hov rapped these lyrics over his HP commercial drums, and the acapella went to a few different producers in search of a beat for it. I heard a Timbaland version and I think Just Blaze and a few others had it too. But by the time they made Beach Chair, I think Jay was over trying to find a beat for Most Kingz. Then he went to Flex show and the rest is history…” – Green Lantern
