Theo Martins teams up with his You Can’t Do That On Television partner for this ode to his trip to Africa back in December. Theo’s next project Sincerely Yours, The Dancefloor drops next week.
“When I began promoting 2008′s The Birth, I became familiar with another fellow whom I continued to see on the blogs named J.Cole. I became a fan of his music and eventually ran into him last summer. We talked and just like I knew who he was from the blogs and such, he knew me the same. I wrote a blog entry about the experience a few months ago. From the Blueprint 3 Tour to his sold out SOB’s show, Cole has maintained his humility and it’s very inspiring. When I heard, “Who Dat,” I thought the beat was ridiculously hot and that Cole killed it. It compelled me to spar with him, simple as that.
Theo had given me a rough copy of this project a while ago, and I was excited to hear the final product. Now here it is for everyone’s listening pleasure…
The project is finally here, after much delay and jumps through fire hoops we have finally dusted ourselves off to present you with, You Can’t Do That On Television. Inspired by the Canadian sketch comedy show (and, later, Nickelodeon staple) of the same name, the seven-track set sees producer $port and myself blending elements of early-‘90s hip-hop with more futuristic musical influences.
To give you an inside look at the fruition and creation of each song created for the project check out the “Inside YCDTOTV” Series.

Theo finally releases his long-awaited EP You Can’t Do That On Television, a collaboration with upcoming Ohio-based producer $port this month, as the duo Chris Connery. Here is the first leak from it.
I’ve been waiting for this project since he first mentioned it. Now Theo Martins’ latest project is here.
“We named this project ‘Channel Surfin’ as it generally represented people and their short attention-spanned nature. Each song serves as a ‘Channel’ each different from the last song and so forth. The goal was to collectively mash them together to create what we have here. My life is such a TV show.?”
This week brings the second leak track from Channel Surfin, Theo Martins upcoming mixtape with DJ Wreckineyez, dropping March 15th. The song is a remix of “Electric Bloom,” by British band The Foals, and features the homie BK Cyph.
Theo Martins recently collaborated with New York indie rock buzz band Wakey!Wakey! on a redux of their latest single from their LP Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said the Last Time I Saw You. Props to Paul.
For those who were gassed for this song after seeing the trailer last week, here is the full song from Theo’s upcoming Channel Surfin’ project, dropping later this month. Props to Gooch.
Check out the trailer for Theo’s lead-off single from his new collabo mixtape “Channel Surfin,” with DJ Wreckineyez (Asher Roth’s DJ), dropping February 1st. And if you don’t have The Birth, you can cop it below. Props to Paul.
