New York kicked off its annual Summerstage concert series a little bit ago, and yesterday some of rap’s up-and-coming stars took over Red Hook for a live-ass performance.
Fresh off hitting us with their Indigoism mixtape and joining Pro Era and the Flatbush ZOMBiES on the Beast Coastal Tour, The Underachievers come through with a new loosie for y’all to vibe with. Chapter 23, coming this Fall.

During their time on Pitchfork’s Selector series, the Brooklyn duo speak on their recently-released Indigoism project, working with Flying Lotus, how the Beast Coast collective (consisting of The Underachievers, Pro Era, Flatbush ZOMBiES, etc) came to be and hint at an upcoming EP release. To help close out the episode, Issa Dash and Ak choose between beats by Ryan Hemsworth and Stewart Villain for the freestyle segment.

Like I shared on the post for “Play Your Part” earlier today, I first heard of The Underachievers on that remix to “New Brooklyn” with Flatbush Zombies off DyMe-A-DuZiN’s A Portrait of Donnovan project. I then proceeded to Google any and everything I could find, stumbling upon “Herb Shuttles,” “T.A.D.E.D,” and “Gold Soul Theory.” Now, the NY duo have released their latest full-length via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint. I first heard of The Underachievers on that remix to “New Brooklyn” with Flatbush Zombies off DyMe-A-DuZiN’s A Portrait of Donnovan project. Enjoying what I heard, I checking out “Herb Shuttles,” “T.A.D.E.D,” and “Gold Soul Theory.” And similar to Flying Lotus (before signing the NY duo to his Brainfeeder imprint), I was amped to hear what was next. Lucky enough, Indigoism (there upcoming full-length) is dropping tonight at Midnight! And before we can get our hands on the full shebang, Issa Dash and Ak share the Mr. Bristol closer.
