Second verse, same as the first. A little bit louder, a little bit worse.
The 2013 edition of the Dopehouse kicks off next Friday, March 15th, and will once again be a place where you can get hammered and drunkenly sing along to “No Hands” and other (probably ignorant and quite possibly detrimental to society-laden) tunes while some random-ass chick you just met at one of those free showcases earlier in the week grinds feverishly on your pelvis… except this time it will be in the middle of the day, in a much larger (read: much larger) venue and with more special guests, with a couple of performances thrown into the mix to boot. Why throw a party in the middle of the day? Why not?
Keep it real: those that attend SXSW know that by Friday you’re slowly starting to get burned out on constantly fighting in line trying to get into a showcase, only to get in and be flanked by people who look like they haven’t showered in days constantly stepping on your shoes and screaming in your ear, while people who actually haven’t showered in days frenetically wave their arms and funk in the air at the “aspiring” (read: struggle) musician desperately trying to get their attention while simultaneously blocking your view and violating your sense of smell, while that one guy who insists on smoking weed at every concert he attends (you know, because it makes the show “that much better” in his mind) blows the smoke into your hair and face next to that one person that can’t handle their liquor and is about five seconds away from tossing his insides next to your feet that’s been stomped into oblivion by the dirty hippies who are suddenly allergic to water and haven’t showered in days.
(This was my SXSW a few years ago.)
Well, instead of having to deal with that, come fuck with us, get fucked up in the middle of the day, grab a free, limited-edition Rocksmith x 2DBz Dopehouse SXSW tee or a watch from FLüd Watches, party, bullshit and enjoy the rest of your day trying to figure out which way is up.
Sounds fun, right?
Want in? You can RSVP here. See y’all there.

Last year’s edition was fun. It was simple, really: we didn’t want to throw a “showcase,” so instead we rounded up a couple of friends, shoved them all into a tiny loft and spun music all night, nearly crashing through the floor in the process. So, why not pull it off again for the 2013 edition of SXSW? And how do we make it even better?
By upgrading the formula, and making the Dopehouse a day party x rave.

Sounds good? Good.
Friday, March 15th is the date. Full details to come next week.

18+ to enter, 21+ to drink
Tonight The DopeHouse returns, this time in Atlanta for A3C. I’m actually a bit excited, as it will be the first party we’ll be throwing in the South (hopefully the first of many). The usual suspects will be there – myself on the turntables, LowKey of YouHeardThatNew on the mic – and a few special guests from Toronto in the form of dopehouse mainstay and your host Blake Carrington, and five-time Stylus Award-winning DJ Lissa Monet rocking out through the night.
Best of all, the entire thing is free to enter all night. So stop on by, take off your cool and turn up with us.

This Friday. Free all night. Get ready, Atlanta.

Keeping it real: Shake and I hate putting together showcases. They’re a lot of work, you have to deal with numerous personalities and monkey wrenches almost always get thrown into the mix. We’d much rather pack a bunch of folks into a venue with a bar, spin some tunes and let life (and alcohol) determine the outcome. Hence, The DopeHouse.
Well, The DopeHouse will land at A3C in Atlanta next Friday (October 12th), and you already know what to expect: a free-entry free-for-all where no musical genre is off limits. If you’ve attended the inaugural event in Texas or last week’s DopeHouse Cinemas, you’ll know that it’s nothing but the finest in ignorant tunes, drunken sing-along anthems and the like. I’m bringing a couple friends over from Toronto as well – dopehouse mainstay and your host Blake Carrington, and 5x Stylus Award-winning DJ Lissa Monet – to help out with the proceedings.
So when you’re done seeing some of your favorite acts get their rap on next week, hit The Soundtable and prepare to take off your cool. See you all there.

October 12th.
It’s a little bit bigger, and a little bit better this time.
After a long day of listening to a variety of rappers yell at you from a stage, slide you their mixtape and/or try to solicit your contact information at A3C, I’m pretty sure all you want to do is sit back and relax at night while some random-ass chick you met provides you with some southern comfort (read: grinds feverishly on your pelvis while she drunkenly sing along to Ghost Town DJs’ “My Boo”).
Enter: the return of The Dopehouse.

I enjoyed The Dopehouse at SXSW. So much so, that I’ve linked up with the good folks of ILL Banger and Cookies-N-Cream in New York to bring it out East. Starting this Friday (April 27th) and every last Friday of the month, Tammany Hall will be the new home of The Dopehouse. And wait until you see what’s coming this summer… more details to come, flyer down bottom.

For those unaware SXSW begins begins this Friday, March 9th, and ends Sunday, March 18th, and there’s going to be a variety of showcases, concerts, exhibitions, meet-and-greets, galleries, screenings, tastings and virtually every other form of sensory decadence. While the purveyors of this corner of the Internets have only been for the past few years, each year has seemingly gotten bigger (and more “shark-jump” worthy, but that’s neither here nor there), this may be the largest one thus far.
As such, instead of putting together our own “Internets rap showcase” we’ve decided to buck the trend and do something that is more relaxing (read: much easier to pull out of our asses): The Dopehouse.
The Dopehouse will be an RSVP-free, free entry free-for-all for any and every partygoer, fan, friend, musician, manager, handler, bag handler, weed bag handler and the like who wants to enjoy good music courtesy of six deejays from all over North America (some who have weekly mix shows on terrestrial radio, others who spin for the likes of Skeme and Talib Kweli), down cheap drinks (like, extremely cheap) and most importantly party.
But wait, there’s more.
There will be a photobooth courtesy of Floridian director UnkleLuc, as well as giveaways from the likes of Orisue, IM KING, FLüD, Rocksmith, Young & Reckless and Akomplice. And if you still aren’t convinced that a two-night, free party with cheap drinks and free giveaways isn’t for you, well… kill yourself.
The Dopehouse. March 16th and March 17th. See you mudda suckas there.

With SXSW just around the corner, many folks from all walks of life will descend upon Austin, TX for two weeks of art, fashion, film, technology, music and much more. As with the festivities there will also be a host of galleries, pop-up shops, screenings, displays and – the most popular of them all – showcases and concerts.
With so many different things going on, it’s almost impossible to miss your favorite act(s) performing throughout the week, and mostly for free to boot. So once you are finally able to catch your favorite musician perform songs that are in constant rotation in your iPod/iTunes (or, if you’re like Shake and LowKey and still live in the prehistoric era, Zune/WinAMP) what’s left to do?
