Still riding the success of their recently released Montezuma’s Revenge, Souls Of Mischief have been out and about, spreading their legendary brand of hip-hop as they continue to tour the world. On the most recent leg of their European tour, the UK’s SB.TV caught up with lyrical heavyweights Opio, Tajai, and Phesto for a fresh impromptu freestyle session. Clocking in at nearly six-minutes, the video showcases the three legendary emcees as they effortlessly exhibit superior skills, fitting more lyricism into three two-minute freestyles than most folks can manage to fit into an album. Don’t take it from us though, just watch out for Phesto’s lyrical acrobatics at the end, too. Who said real freestyling was dead?

Souls of Mischief got their set started with a Hiero classic last Thursday @ San Francisco’s Left Fest which went down at the Mezzanine. The bay area legends headlined the event and brought the house down as they tend to do, performing another classic set which included songs from their recently released album, Montezuma’s Revenge which was produced in it’s entirety by Prince Paul.

SoulCulture caught up with Souls Of Mischief in London last month and the discussion turned to the frequently debated subject of The Greatest emcees Of All Time.
In this mini roundtable discussion, Opio and Phesto discuss the flaws of corporate lists – such as MTV’s – and the variety of factors one should consider when assessing The Greatest Of All Time, and Tajai insists (contrary to Baby’s recent comments, “How can you be the best if you don’t make the most money?”) that innovation is the most important factor. Then he puts it out there – “Name one thing Jay-Z or Lil Wayne brought to Hip Hop that’s new? …They brought nothing new to Hip Hop. Zero.” – before giving his own Top 10 G.O.A.T list.
Their latest album, Montezuma’s Revenge, is out now.
