Every Sunday I go through my crates to slowly rid of the shit I don’t listen to as much anymore. This Sunday, I stumbled upon some random VHS tapes, and after a through cleaning with the VHS head cleaning tape, I popped an un-labeled tape in to the TV/VCR combo and the video above came on. Maestro Fresh Wes had a highly slept on album (at least in the States) back in ’94, with his Naaah, Dis Kid Can’t Be from Canada?!!. Most US heads weren’t checking for him, but there were a few legendary producers who were, including Showbiz who produced a few joints on the album, and Percee P who is featured on one cut. Google this album and download if you don’t already own it. Or cop it on CD/wax/tape. That real T-Dot shit!
Showbiz & AG continue their onslaught of new music for their fans worldwide. Recently the duo released their free album “Preloaded” which is a pre-cursor to their upcoming retail album “Mug Shot Music.” On July 17th, DITC Records will be releasing the “Preloaded Remixes” album which features 7 brand new tracks and remixes from the “Preloaded” album. All the remixes are produced by Showbiz, but he breathes new life to each song. Preme and DITC veteran Showbiz sit down at HeadQcourterz Studios to talk the upcoming Show & AG album, Mugshot Music which is executive produced by Preme. Preme talks about his versatility in production, from producing for Christina Aguilera to Madonna. They build on who will be featured on the LP, and yes, Premo will have a joint on there. It wouldn’t be a DITC album without one. From the leaks we’ve heard so far, it has a very different sound than some of the dustier, 90s DITC material, but still with that same, raw, gritty soundscape that they’re known for. In this episode with Showbiz of Show & AG and the DITC Crew, Showbiz talks about Diamond D showing him “how to look for records,” learning how to pick records by the year, the side-musicians, the record labels, etc. Showbiz also talks about his personal “weapons of choice” in terms of equipment in the studio, while using technology to his advantage and still digging for records like they’ve done for 20+ years. Finally, Showbiz closes with his personal words of encouragement to upcoming producers and artists, stating they should “push the envelope.”
