Substantial – U Were There f. JSouL

blg_sub_uwt_cvr

Substantial refuses to take any time off, returning with his new single, “U Were There (ft. JsouL)”, produced by DMV beatsmith, Joe.D (of Dirty Water). To add even more flavor to the sauce, Big Tune Beat Battle (Seattle) Champ, Marcus D. comes through with an inescapably silky remix that would make Sade proud.

“U Were There” is taken from from Substantial’s forthcoming mixtape, WINK (Something Substantial), which will take listeners on a 10-year journey of Substantial’s music, focusing mainly on his his love/relationship songs. From throwback classics like the Nujabes-produced “Eclipse”, to 3 all new exclusive songs to add to the fire. WINK will be released on Feb. 9, 2010 at QN5.com and is blended by the UK’s Dub MD and hosted by Kno (CunninLynguists). Stay tuned for artwork and tracklisting.

I’m digging the hell out of that remix…

The first auction ended with a $130 bid which was then matched by the Salesforce.com Foundation. The next item up for bid is an autographed out-of-print pressing of PackFM’s first 12″ vinyl single release, Freestyle Marathon b/w Relay Remix f. Wordsworth & Rise and BackPack. PackFM – Happy Days (Video)

Just two days after the song hit the internet, QN5 releases the visuals for PackFM’s Tonedeff-produced banger.

Through clever yet powerful quotes, Happy Days offers a look at the steady decline in standards that masquerades as change in the world today. Things have been so bad and people are so eager to just be satisfied that they lowered their standards for everything, but we can do better than that. Its like if a kid scrapes his knee and you give him a lolipop, he stops crying, but at some point youre going to have to fix that wound. PackFM

JsouL – Potential f. Eric Roberson & Substantial

Whenever I sit down to work on (design) projects I tend to play nothing but soulful music to keep me focused. I currently have a few projects to knock out so this joint couldn’t have came at a better time. JsouL – a Baltimore native – enlists Substantial and singer/song writer Eric Roberson for the latest single off his upcoming album Black Sinatra. Thanks QN5.

CunninLynguists – Streets f. Sean Price & Poison Pen

I know we’ve already posted a few tracks off CunninLynguists new album Strange Journey Volume Two, which is available now (iTunes x Amazon). And I’m sure I’ll get a DM from Tone because they didn’t send this one out personally, but it’s Sean Price dammit! This track is dope as hell and I figured it would give me another excuse to yell at ya’ll to cop the album (if you haven’t already). Featuring guest appearances from Evidence, Sean Price, Tonedeff, Geologic (Blue Scholars), Substantial, PackFM, Freddie Gibbs, Poison Pen and more; w/ production from Kno (of course), J-Zone and Blue Sky Black Death. QN5!

CunninLynguists – Imperial f. Freddie Gibbs

Photography by Maximilian Jaenicke.

CL emcee Natti trades verses with up-and-coming, buzz-heavy Gary, Indiana emcee Freddie Gibbs, imploring peasants and wack blog rappers alike to kiss the crown. Over a haunting organ track produced by Kno, CunninLynguists‘ “Imperial” is the fourth and final leak from Strange Journey Volume Two (iTunes x Amazon), the second installment of this year’s double release from the trio.

CunninLynguists – Nothing To Give Live (Video)

With the footage taken at this summer’s QN5 Megashow, here’s some visuals off CunninLynguists’ Strange Journey Volume Two, dropping next week. Props to Tunji (and Da Bomb Imagery). SHAKE EDIT: Now this is what live performance footage should look like! And to clear up the confusion I see in the c-section… the actual track is off A Piece of Strange but this live version will be included on the new album. Very dope…

Who Wants Free Tickets to a QN5 CMJ Show?

This Friday, the QN5 crew will be tearing down the stage in NYC during their showcase for CMJ. I’ve got a few tickets to give away if anyone would like them. Just answer the question below correctly (in the c-section) and I’ll randomly pick a few winners. And if you’re gonna play… be sure you’ll be in New York this weekend.

Name the debut Full Length LP’s from each QN5 Artist (CunninLynguists, Tonedeff, PackFM, Substantial, Mr. SOS, Kokayi).

Good luck to all. And remember. It’s not the first correct answer. I’ll be picking them at random. So if you see the correct answer, make a comment anyways with yours.
