Pharoahe Monch took to Kiss 100′s Hip Hop Show to premiere an M-Phazes-produced joint off his upcoming album, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades).
It was incredible,” Monch told SoulCulture of his debut performance of Clap in London. “That song is like a year and some change in the making – not that it took me a year to write it, but I found the beat on tour in Australia. I started writing over it after the Sean Bell incident and it was loosely based on police brutality. It’s still pretty loose around that – American corruption and police brutality. Clap was particularly inspired by the cases of Aiyana Jones, Oscar Grant and Sean Bell – “All young black people who were murdered by police officers in the States. You feel helpless when this happens and the police never get charged with these crimes.”
Those on the right side of the States can catch Monch on tour with Skyzoo, Sean Price, Buckshot and Smif-N-Wessun as part of Duck Down’s East Coast Tour.
You already know what happens whenever Pharoahe gets his hands on a microphone and is asked to freestyle. Let’s hope W.A.R. comes out sooner than later.
A few hours ago, I caught up with Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae. *We had a bit of fun in this interview* I speak to Pharoahe about his album being pushed back and why. Jean Grae also speaks about the delay in getting her album out. I then play a true or false game with the duo. Jean Grae tells me why she was once named the “Easter Bunny” in her career and Pharoahe revealed in High School, his beatboxer name was “The Human Mailbox”. – HHCUK
While celebrating Funk Flex’ birthday, Pharoahe Monch and Joell Ortiz performed “Simon Says” and “Nissan, Honda, Chevy.” Props to Jonathan and Dante Ross.
Thanks to my old running mate we now have the tracklist for Pharoahe Monch’s upcoming album, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), which is scheduled to drop on October 26th.
Two legendary artists sit down to speak about “Oh No,” Pharoahe’s issues with asthma (which I didn’t know he even had, especially considering how he raps like he doesn’t even need to stop to take a breath sometimes) and more.
Time to pull out the playlist of Internal Affairs from the iPod and gets to head-nodding in anticipation for this one. Here’s the first single from the newest member of Duck Down Records’ upcoming W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), set to drop this fall.
Special guest Pharoahe Monch opened up for the Slaughterhouse crew out in Toronto last Thursday and was easily the highlight of the night, running through classics like “Simon Says”, “Right Here”, his verses from “The Matrix” and “Oh No”, and even some off-the-top freestyle action.
One of the most consistent spitters in rap (quote me on that) sits down with the homie Combat Jack to talk about Jay Electronica, Drake and music in general. What up, Sam?
I know I’ve been slacking on this series but I promise it will be back to full force from here on out. I originally was gonna come in here with an Atmosphere joint but after a brief conversation with an old high school buddy I realized that there are still a ton of folks out there that have never heard this record! Taken off Sway & King Tech’s 1999 release, This Or That, with DJ Revolution. The bonus comes off the same album as well. Enjoy.
