Camp Lo & Pete Rock – 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s (Mixtape)

Trackstar The DJ and DJ Mark Divita do an incredible job with this mixtape, which features old ‘Lo verses over vintage Pete Rock beats as well as a couple new tracks between the two, which all serves as a warm-up to the official Camp Lo x Pete Rock album. Tracklist and link down bottom.

80 Blocks From Tiffany’s (Camp Lo x Pete Rock) – 80 Blocks Intro

Pete Rock and Camp Lo? How I wish this tag team would have happened during my growing years when both acts were making waves. Regardless, I’m anticipating the release of 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s, which is set to drop a week from today (March 29th). Props to The Smoking Section.

Pete Rock Speak On Collaborative Album With DJ Premier

The Chocolate Boy Wonder spoke to VIBE and revealed that his collaborative album with DJ Premier is actually coming. I think I just shit myself…

“This is really happening,” Pete exclusively tells VIBE. “I got a good side of people with me [laughs]. I’m going to keep the artists I have under wraps.”

According to Pete, the project, which is slated for this year, was sparked by a joint tour with the iconic Gang Starr producer. “That project came together from being on tour with Premier in Japan,” continues Pete. “We would do a show called Pete Rock vs. DJ Premier where we went back and forth with our music onstage and people would just go crazy. They loved the show. We sat in our hotel rooms and ate dinner and talked about doing an album together for hours. It was definitely something I wanted to do. Me and Premier can round up the best rappers and go crazy with this album.”

Pete Rock Breaks Down His Musical Catalog

Now this is a dope read: the Chocolate Boy Wonder sat down with VIBE and spoke on everything, from “Mecca & The Soul Brother” to “The World Is Yours” and everything in between. Here’s a snippet of what he said on one of the better of the G.O.O.D. Music offerings, “The Joy:”

Now what really fucked me up was Jay-Z being on it. I’m going to tell everybody right now. I had no clue that Kanye was going to do that. Because the way we were working on the song it was just him on it. And I jumped on it and did my adlibs. Then my man Young Guru called me and was like, ‘Yo Pete…I got a surprise for you.’ He played it for me over the phone. At first I couldn’t hear Jay’s voice too good. Guru is like, ‘You heard it?’ I’m like, ‘Nah..’ I was driving so I didn’t want to get pulled over by the cops so I just stopped the car. I heard Jay’s verse and I almost had a heart attack [laughs]! I was like, ‘Is that fucking Jay-Z??? Finally, I can’t believe it.’ But then when ‘The Joy’ didn’t come out on Kanye’s album people on Twitter and Faceback were like they brought his album because they thought it was going to be on there. But hey…maybe it will be on Watch The Throne.”

Side note: my former moniker during my “Slap-Boxing With Jesus” days, “Meka Soul,” is both a play on my full name and “Mecca & The Soul Brother.”

A Sitdown w/ DJ Premier & Pete Rock (Video)

From the DVD that was released in Japan (presumably around the time this happened), Primo and the Chocolate Boy Wonder sit down and wax poetics on everything from the past, present and future. If you have the time to sit and watch the whole thing (it’s about an hour long) I highly suggest you do so. Props to the DJ Premier Blog.

Pete Rock Speaks On Collaborative Album With DJ Premier, “Runaway” & More (Video)

Summit of The Hip Hop Chronicle UK was backstage in London last night to catch up with the legendary Pete Rock. Pete Rock reveals two artists that will appear on the album with DJ Premier. Rapper Big Pooh and CL Smooth are together on one track. He tells me that he produced the drums of Kanye West’s “Runaway” track (the drums are from Mecca & The Soul Brother). He recounts the first time he met the DJ Premier and explains the 5 albums he is releasing in 2011 including one with Camp Lo and another with CL Smooth.
