Apollo Brown – The Times f. Oddisee

Oddisee went IN on this.

Originally titled as “Tao Te Ching” from Apollo Brown’s recently released instrumental album, “Clouds,” Oddisee jumps on the track delivering a remix vocal version now entitled “The Times.” “The Times” is exactly what Oddisee is speaking about in the song. Half-Sudanese himself (on his father’s side), Oddisee discusses “The Times” with an emphasis on Southern Sudan’s recent vote to split and form a new nation. This is personal for him, and accompanied by Apollo Brown’s fitting instrumental, and Oddisee’s point of view, “The Times” is something that is truly special.

Trek Life & Oddisee – West Coast Beats (Mixtape)

Trek Life and Oddisee continue to tease fans with another mixtape preceding the release of Trek Life’s sophomore album, Everything Changed Nothing. The mixtape, West Coast Beats, includes a concoction of snippets of instrumentals from the upcoming album, exclusive Oddisee beats, the first single, “So Supreme”, and an exclusive Oddisee-produced Trek Life track called “Get In Touch”, found only on this mixtape.

While Oddisee’s beats have a laid back California feel, he adds a strong synth that keeps reigns on the tracks and keeps them from becoming repetitive. The mixture of styles separates California music from its usual clichés by adding an urban feel. Oddisee says, “When I cruise LA and listen to those tracks I really feel like we accomplished what we set out to [do] with this album, giving a city theme music.”

Oddisee – Ig’nant Witted Interview (Video)

Oddisee of Diamond District is one of my favorite new rapper/producers. From what I understand, he’s been putting in work for a minute now but I only really started paying attention after he dropped the Diamond District project with yU and XO.

He was there at the same time as yU when I interviewed him over at Rugged Sole so I got to do this interview as well. Talked a little bit about his style, musical taste, and building a brand name fans can trust. – IW

TiRon – 60901 (prod. Oddisee)

Having music in advance is a gift and a curse. On one hand you get to be one of a select group of people to enjoy music the world hasn’t had a chance to listen to yet. Then on the other hand you get to a point where you have trouble distinguishing what’s been released and what’s still “secret”. Also, if you get to a certain point of success with your platform (2dbz), certain rappers get upset about their music being online and go about resolving that issue in a wrong way. For the record (for those that have their own opinion on a situation they know nothing of), I wasn’t beat up, I wasn’t harmed in any way, and I damn sure wasn’t upset because I was denied an interview (smh… since when do I even do interviews?). But, folks will say anything to be cool. Right Pizza boy?

Anyways… the point of this post is really to showcase the talent of the homie TiRon. Here goes a record off his highly anticipated (and incredible) MSTRD project, coming soon. UPDATE: TiRon just shot over the final/sequenced version. So re-download if you already did.
