Any day that starts with new music from The Foreign Exchange is a fantastic day in my books. And with that said, Phonte and Nicolay drop off the lead single from their upcoming project, +FE Music: The Reworks, dropping February 26th. A 2-disc compilation that will feature three new tracks and +FE tracks remixed by Nicolay, Zo!, The Randy Watson Experience (?uestlove x James Poyser), Focus… and more. With Phonte currently pushing his solo debut, the other half of The Foreign Exchange is still putting in work (obviously). For now, he’s teamed up with the Raleigh-based jazz trio The Hot At Nights (led by FE guitarist Chris Boerner with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums) for a new project that featuresnew interpretations and arrangements of eight compositions from Nicolay’s 2009 offering City Lights v.2: Shibuya. The four of them are also hitting the road at the top of the year so hit the jump for a download link and cities/dates.

Phonte, Nicolay and the rest of the Foreign Exchange collective will release an CD/DVD called Dear Friends: An Evening With The Foreign Exchange, which will be available June 28th. No word if it will come with an acoustic version of their rendition of “Return Of The Mack,” however. SHAKE UPDATE: It won’t haha. In fact, I’ve added the tracklist after the jump (which includes two new studio records) and more info below.
This past February at SoundPure Studios in Durham, NC, The Foreign Exchange gave a private acoustic show for 40 randomly-selected friends and supporters. The evening, captured on both audio and video, is the basis of their latest release, “Dear Friends: An Evening With The Foreign Exchange.”
Serving as a companion piece to their latest release “Authenticity” and as a glimpse into their acclaimed live show, “Dear Friends” is a double-disc CD/DVD digipak that features the full acoustic concert performed by the band’s current touring lineup of Zo!, Sy Smith, and singer/songwriter Jeanne Jolly. In addition to the live concert recordings, the release also features two new studio tracks; “Steal Away” featuring Jeanne Jolly and “All The Kisses” featuring Amber & Paris Strother of rising indie soul trio KING.

Cover art and tracklisting for Phonte and Nicolay’s third collaborative album (Authenticity, Oct. 12) have hit the internet. According to the press release, the album is their most diverse work to date; featuring their “trademark brand of lush electronic soul, to stripped down acoustic pieces that recall the heyday of 70′s singer-songwriter driven folk.” The lead single, Maybe She’ll Dream of Me, is a synth-driven hip hop groove with (a rapping) Phonte. In regards to the album’s title, Te had the following to say.
I think every band reaches that point when they come into their own and find a sound that is distinctively theirs. The title refers to me and Nic’s journey to find our own unique space within this vast musical landscape. The biggest challenge as a musician is to find that ‘thing’ that makes you who you are. But I think we’re getting there, and we’re finding our way more and more with each record.
