For those following my every word (or those that check my Twitter every now and then) should know I’ve been traveling around like a madman and have been battling for internet connections. Anyways… there’s a few things I gotta get up before I lose connection (again). Anyways, here goes the first installment of Motown’s Michael Jackson: Remix Suite; in which Universal Motown grabbed some producers to remix 20 MJ/5 Jackson 5 cuts. All praise Splash Jackson for the links…
At least Jay knew the guy (remember when he brought him out for SummerJam a few years back?], which is a lot more than I could say for those who sell cheaply-constructed paraphernalia on 125th.
In honor of Michael Jackson, Jamie Foxx reworks his Digital Girl (rmx) with a new beat, a new verse (from Jamie only) and a new bridge from The-Dream. Shouts to BuckMarley. UPDATE: Apparently this isn’t a MJ Remix but rather the West Coast Remix (yea… me neither). *shrugs… either way, it’s a remix.
On Roses pt.2, the sequel to Roses (a track Mos Def recently copped for The Ecstatic), Ms. Muldrow sounds jubilant and spiritual, optimistic and funky as ever. This is from her latest album, Umsindo, which dropped yesterday on the internets and will hit what record stores remain next week (the same day as the Dudley Perkins record, which she also produced, and has similar Hendrix-lev psychedelic cover art).
Here goes more footage from Hov’s show in Chicago. Above he pays homage to Michael Jackson before leading into Can I Live. Then after the jump you can catch him performing PSA, Money Ain’t a Thang, Where I’m From, etc.
Now I normally don’t post more than one RAoF in a day, but come on! While I was flying back to Vegas last night I caught this bullshit on the Satellite TV. I seriously don’t get how folks can actually watch this douche bag on a daily basis. This particular clip (above) revolves around his thoughts on Michael Jackson. And after the jump he debates with Dr. Marc Lamont Hill.
Marsha Ambrosius, formerly one half of British soul duo Floetry, came to London for a one-off solo show at UK Soul Jam, Jazz Cafe on July 5th 2009. SoulCulture recorded her performing crowd favorites Say Yes (shown above) from Floetry’s debut album and Take Care (after the jump) from her mixtape, Your Truly….
But back to the concert. Opening with Co-Star, Ambrosius launches into a combination of old and new material, including Say Yes and a thumping new song produced by Dr Dre. Incorporating the lyrics to Thriller as verses in the Floetry classic Getting Late, she eases into a tribute to Michael Jackson with a rendition of Butterflies on the piano, followed by a snippet of Cry – an unfinished song she has written for him
During the creation of a U-N-I x Mistah F.A.B. x Phil the Agony record (Lee Bannon on the beat); Krondizzle, Y-O, Thurz & Lee chop it up about Michael Jackson and his musical legacy. And for those wondering, the record was not featured on Me&Marvin… so stay tuned.
For those who won’t be able to be near a television when this goes down, here’s a live stream of all the proceedings. The entire thing starts at 10am Pacific Time, 1pm Eastern.
I figured with the memorial being broadcast to everybody and their mom’s house, I figured why not post this. So long as I’m not peddling cheaply-made MJ wares on 125th Street next to the incense & shea butter bombers…
