ABC celebrated Thanksgiving and the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s classic Bad album and worldwide tour with the Bad 25 special, directed by Spike Lee. Bad 25 gave us never-before-seen footage into the making of the album and behind-the-scenes of the late Michael Jackson’s first solo tour. Shouts to Yardie.
Directed by Spike Lee, the documentary celebrating the 25th anniversary of MJ’s 1987 solo album airs Thanksgiving – also known as one of the two days nobody bothers to send us music (let’s keep that trend going, please) – night on ABC. I definitely know what I’ll be watching that evening.

On what would have been MJ’s 54th birthday, Mister Cee helps celebrate the King of Pops’ musical legacy.

“Remember The Time”
Michael Joseph Jackson. August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009.

Damn, it’s hard to believe it’s already been three years since we lost Michael. To help celebrate his life and music, Mister Cee dedicated his Throwback At Noon time slot to the King of Pop.

At Michael Jackson’s Hand & Footprint Ceremony in Los Angeles this morning, the Toronto songbird performed a rendition of the vintage Jackson 5 single. Music just really isn’t the same since he passed…
I remember about a year ago when the homie Sha Stimuli hit me and said he found the next young star (and sent me the overtime version of Hang On w/ a 16). I then followed that up with a solo post that told y’all to keep an eye out for the 13-year-old. And now, if you’ve been paying any attention to the X-Factor you know… the kid has been killing it! Check up top as he nails a performance of Michael Jackson’s Black Or White.
My favorite Jackson-related song, “Heartbreak Hotel” (or, “This Place Hotel”) off The Jackson’s 1980 album Triumph.
Michael Joseph Jackson, August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009. Although the hurricane madness unfortunately canceled the annual MJ party in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park this past weekend (maybe they’ll do it this weekend?), J. Period, DJ Spinna and Spike Lee come together once again to drop the second volume of their Man Or The Music series. Tracklist and link down bottom.

Due to Irene’s unforgiving ass, Spike Lee’s annual Brooklyn Loves MJ event was canceled. But that shouldn’t stop you from celebrating the man’s life now, should it? As with last year’s effort, J. Period put together some of Michael’s finest work, this time pulling in MJ aficionado DJ Spinna as well as the legendary filmmaker.
Created in collaboration with world-renown DJ/producer and official BKMJ DJ, DJ Spinna, Man or the Music 2 (40 Acres Edition) delves deeper into the story of Michael’s music with rare, live and remixed gems unavailable anywhere else—including never-before-heard MJ tributes from Erykah Badu & The Roots, Questlove, Stevie Wonder, Yahzarah and more.

Today marks the second anniversary since MJ physically left us. Still a little hard to digest. Two years since we lost one of our generation’s greatest musicians entertainers, and a lifetime to reflect on and celebrate this man’s life achievements, musical legacy, new artists he gave rise to and so much more. Rest In Power, MJ.

I don’t know how to feel about this posthumous Michael Jackson album. On one end, the entire thing is wrapped under a cloud of controversy due to his death and the “is it really him?” songs that may not even have his vocals. Plus, a Michael Jackson video without Michael Jackson in it is like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes. On the flip side (and to paraphrase the great bard Dave Chappelle), the ninja made Thriller, which is my favorite anything, and that album effectively cancels out most arguments about music. What a tumultuous decision to make.
