Two of my favorite acts connect together on this ode to the Brazilian city.
“I went to Rio in 2010. The trip gave me so much energy and I met so many amazing people that it inspired me to make a song in Rio’s honor.” – Theophilus
One of my favorite albums of last year gets another great set of visuals. You need this album in your life, people.
PREVIOUS: Menahan Street Band – Lights Out (Video)
If you’re not familiar with the Menahan Street Band you’re familiar with their sound, as the group (and their members) been utilized and sampled by the likes of Jay-Z (“Roc Boys”), Curren$y, KiD CuDi, Amy Winehouse and many more. The massive collective just dropped a new album, The Crossing, a few weeks ago, and it’s gotten nonstop play on my iPod. You should definitely check this one out, and cop their album on iTunes.

In a nutshell, I found out that the Menahan Street Band were the original producers of Jay-Z’s Roc Boys. I looked into their album, brought it & I was immediately inspired by each track! Since the album is pure instrumentation, I simply put words onto each track; keeping the song titles, album title, & even album cover the same. Basically, we are all trying to Make The Road By Walking. Experiencing hardships and obstacles that may make us want to give up, but we must keep moving foward. It’s soulful music w/ substance & a message and I hope everyone can take something from it!
