As far as hip-hop goes the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) is still unmarked territory. Sure, there’s success in the frontrunner (Wale), not to mention a bright future for others (Tabi Bonney, Phil Adé), but there are many more voices from hip-hop’s unheard region. One of them is EQuinox Professionals/Inner Loop Records artist Lyriciss.
The Practice is Lyriciss’s fourth official mixtape, the follow-up to last year’s The Day Job. While the latter had strength in concepts and experimentation in flow, the focal point of The Practice lies within the lyrics.
Former XM Radio show host and DMV-area native DJ Furious Styles handles the mixing and guest contributions include Fashawn, K-Beta, Kingpen Slim, Muggsy Malone, RAtheMC, Theo Martins.
The Practice is the culmination of struggle, of the hustle and grind, of the interminable will to succeed despite all odds. It is the summation of raw emotion not quite quantifiable and the epitome of optimism at its highest form when life pushes the other way.
iLLVibes made it a point to be a part of Lyriciss’ squad to promote this project. We’ve been students of his music and of his work ethic for a while now, so it was only right that we got on board to do all we can to help push this project. Along with this promo, expect a mini-series of sorts, as we got a chance to catch up with the Voice of the Metro, a documentary chronicling just a few days in the life of Lyriciss. It’s the Practice!
DJBooth calls upon Lyriciss for the 81st installment of their Exclusive Freestyle series. 9 more until v.3 of their mixtapes will be released. If you missed 1-30 click here; 31-60 click here.
Pro’Verb, Lyriciss, Lord Vada (EQuinox Professionals), and Hallway Jay (illRoots.com) head out to the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD for the DC leg of the Rock The Bells Tour as Pro’Verb opens up for the show. Appearances from Alchemist, Fashawn, Mickey Factz, Jabari (IAmJabari.com), Phil Ade, Rayne (WPGC 95.5 FM), and more.
