Kokayi – Robots & Dinosaurs (Artwork x Tracklist)

Cover art and tracklist for QN5‘s next release. Kokayi’s Robots & Dinosaurs is set to release digitally on September 28th and physically on October 19th (a week after Kno’s Death is Silent). While he handles most of the production/vocal duties on the project, he’s also joined by Oddisee, Tonedeff and Substantial.

Kokayi – RoxTar

Here is the first single from the QN5 member’s upcoming debut album, Robots & Dinosaurs. This is actually a “maxi-single” or sorts, with the zip file consisting of the dirty, clean, instrumental, acapella and “bounce remix” versions.

Dastardly (Kokayi & Sharkey) – Nasty Girl

To complement the uncharacteristically nice weather in NYC today, we figured we’d toss you an upbeat goodie that your next house party will thank you for. QN5′s Kokayi recently teamed up with producer Sharkey to form DASTARDLY and release Bright Outloud – an unapologetic danceable electrofunk EP that sounds like Phil Spector on a coke-binge in Baltimore. – QN5

Bright Outloud is available now on iTunes & Amazon.

QK10: The Plan

The good folks over at QN5 just revealed their planned releases for the remainder of 2010. And I’d be lying if I said I was anything less than ecstatic. For those that are on mobiles and can’t quite check out the image, I’ve included the list after the jump.

Kokayi (theCaesarz) – Blow

QN5’s newest grammy-nominated signee, Kokayi, has just released a digital-only album with his band, theCaesarz. On All Hail, the multi-talented singer/songwriter/emcee/producer conjures up a punk-infused rock record mashed with electronic vibes accessible to any generation of music lovers. A prolific songwriter, the DC-native originally created these songs to sell, but after some time and much encouragement, he decided to release the songs on his own as an album. Kokayi explains the situation below:

“This record was written with the express intent to sell to an artist or artists whom i felt could best translate the thoughts, angst , sorrow and joy of these excerpts from my life. The record has sat on countless hard drives and in inboxes of my many cohorts in this music thing. When sharing the songs via email, I expressed my insecurity in releasing the work with such heavy laden baggage attached, hence my reasoning to have someone else perform them, so that they could be judged. It didn’t work. My friends said that I should put it out there, loosely translated as..”put you out there” so that I could take on the onus of ownership. Bah humbug. So in the words of some writer who wrote it for David Alan Greer’s character ‘Calhoun Tubbs’ on the inimitable In Living Color, “I wrote a song about it, Like to hear it,? Here it go!”…ahhh haaaaa…. – Kokayi (theCaesarz)

2DopeBoyz.com Presents QN5 MEGASHOW Mix (Mixed by DJ JS-1)

That’s right… you’ve read the title correct. Your favorite dopeboyz on the internets have linked up with (what should be) one of your favorite independent hip hop labels. On August 7th I’m inviting all of you to join myself and Meka to check out the QN5 Megashow that will be going down at the Highline Ballroom in NYC (get your tickets here). The one time of the year that you can catch the entire QN5 roster on stage. Yes… CunninLynguists, Tonedeff, PackFM, Substantial, Mr. SOS, Session, Kokayi and DJ JS-1 will all be in full effect (along with a few special guests). I posted 10 reasons why you should go earlier, and you should definitely take note. The other year the Megashow was held on the West Coast (the best coast) and myself and Meka were in attendance. I must say, it’s one of the livest shows I’ve ever been to. And I’m sure they would agree. Anyways… to help you get familiar (of for you to enjoy music you already enjoy), DJ JS-1 has put together the official mix for 2009.

Substantial – I’m Here f. Gods’Illa & Kokayi (prod. Marcus D)

Incase I forget this weekend, I’d like to wish an early Happy Father’s Day to the fathers out there that actually handle their business. And congrats to ‘Stan on his newborn!

New-Daddy Substantial enlists the talents of local DMV artists Gods’Illa and QN5 labelmate Kokayi to expound on the art of being a papa in 2009. This track was produced by Marcus D. (of Day In The Life f. Steph) fame) and is taken directly from their forthcoming Japanese-Only collaborative album, Jazzmatic (Music To Take Your Breath Away), due out this fall on Tamashie Creations/Elevation Records. In the meantime, tell your baby mama we said ‘whuttup’.
