Low Budget Records is Producer/MC Kev Brown’s latest business venture, a partnership between Kev, Redefinition Records and Fat Beats Distribution. We’ll be hearing a lot more of the Maryland based producer’s brand of quality hip-hop as he now has the creative control and distribution channel to do things whenever and however he sees fit. With upcoming solo and collaborative projects in the works that feature artists such as Grap Luva, Hassaan Mackey, Toine (from DTMD), Sean Born, Kenn Starr, Quartermaine and others, Kev is set to satisfy his long-time fans and new listeners alike as he releases a barrage of quality records.

Sean is gearing up to release his debut album, Behind the Scale on Feb. 17th (available for pre-order now), and for the first leak, he enlists Kev Brown for an ill, dusty instrumental with a dark piano loop and Daily Bread’s Hasaan Mackey.

“Go Hard” first saw the light of day as a rough draft, clean version way back in 2009 when Sean Born first anticipated the coming “Behind The Scales” project. Two years later, the album is ready and the original track is back in it’s full uncensored glory. Behind it all Kev Brown layers piano keys, drawn out horns, snares that stick, and the dusty static of spinning vinyl.

Never Was Yours is a stark look at life’s often unforgiving path. The recognition of everything’s impermanance is reflected upon throughout the tracks lyrical display of wisdom. Has-Lo tackles aging, disapointment, loss, financial woes, and the devils deals we make to attain success, all with a stoic’s calm and unflinching eye of a narrative reporter.

We are sharing a mini-documentary style video that we shot while Kev and Al (Kaimbr) were in New York a couple weeks ago. They made the trip from Maryland to Brooklyn for the Fat Beats Record Store Day Event and to film the music video for Go Green, so while they were here Damu The Fudgemunk decided to conduct an interview with them about the making of their LP.
