How random is it that People Magazine of all spots premiered this track. *shrugs* Anyways, here’s the first second taste of how John Legend and The Roots’ collaborative effort, Wake Up!, will sound like when it drops September 21st.

When a video starts out with a tiger in a cage and it doesn’t star Michael Jackson, you’re in for some nignorance. Sorry, Rick, I won’t be playing this “Magnificent” rehash when this album leaks. Nevermind the fact that this “ode to ladies” cut is slightly vomit-inducing, you really think about it [||].

John Legend and The Roots team up for the latest installment of Levi’s Pioneer Sessions series; in which pioneering artists recreate songs that have inspired them. And yes, this record will also be featured on their upcoming album, Wake Up.
Legend & The Roots re-craft a lost classic by the great, yet somehow underappreciated, soul singer Ernie Hines. Mississippi-born, Hines grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he got his start singing in the church.

This actually sounds like an awesome project. Having two of my current favorite musical acts drop an album full of songs I grew up listening to… someone get me a bib because I can’t stop drooling.
Musical powerhouses John Legend & The Roots are presenting fans with a fiery new offering, Wake Up! The upcoming CD, being released by Sony Music on September 21, 2010, will feature soulful music from the 60’s and 70’s all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness— effectively telling listeners to Wake Up!
After being inspired by the recent historical Presidential election campaign of 2008, the R&B singer Legend and hip-hop band The Roots felt a need to enter the action. What started as plans for a single quickly developed into a passionate album representing change, hope and activism— not only referencing one particular moment in time, but on a larger scale, holding true no matter what the political climate may be.

“We’re, like, 99 percent done. We’ve done all the recording, and now we’re mixing half the album, and it’s coming out in September,” the singer told MTV News. “I’m very excited about it. It’s gonna be a very interesting, very cool album. And like I said, I’m a big fan of the Roots. I’m excited to be able to put out an album with the Roots. This is a group I’ve been following since I was a kid at UPenn. I would go to open mics and watch them host the open mics, wishing I could be onstage with them, and now I’m in the studio with them making this album, and it’s pretty exciting.”
