Being a member of a cartoon band is a gig a lot of flesh-and-blood musicians would kill for — there are no interviews, obligations or other banal realities of stardom to worry about. In that spirit, Gorillaz are prepping for the release of their new album, ‘Plastic Beach,’ with a promotional video that’s firmly set within their fictional universe. In this clip, simply titled ‘Murdoc,’ the animated bassist sets off on his journey to Plastic Beach with some cash and champagne. Unfortunately, an unnamed nemesis has other plans. – Spinner
Earlier today, AOL Radio‘s Top Alternative station was hacked into by Murdoc Niccals, the misanthropic, booze-swilling and entirely fictional bassist for Gorillaz. For nearly 40 minutes, Murdoc spun some of his favorite punk and pop tunes and even gave listeners a preview of various tracks from the new Gorillaz LP, ‘Plastic Beach.’ Though he remained coy about song titles and guest appearances, we’re pretty confident about hearing Swedish electronic act Little Dragon in one of the clips.
