DC and his daughters at MLK Day’s Freedom March in Lexington, KY [2006]
Another track off Devine Carama’s upcoming project, No Child Left Behind, which is slated to drop digitally on June 28th and for physical purchase on July 2nd.
On this track I wanted to shine a little light. Drops a couple of gems but also have fun with the craft and just being an MC! Get people thinking a little bit.. Too much “ABC, 123″ in the game right now, which is cool but we gotta push the listeners understanding a little bit too. It’s ok to revisit bars a few times to see what path the MC is trying to travel. Enjoy.
With JSWISS’ Awthenticity just days away from release, the NC emcee drops off one last joint featuring NC peers Tab-One (Kooley High) and K-Hill along with Kentucky’s own Devine Carama. Production handled by U’Nique Music. Pre-order the album here. Hit the jump for JSWISS performing his last single, “My Mercedes” live.
On the third single off his upcoming No Child Left Behind album, Devine Carama enlists the voice of Deacon the Villain to pay homage to those that lost their lives too soon.
My hometown has been hit with a rash of recent violence, along with the rest of the country it seems. Everybody gets so wrapped up in the issues (gun control) and the cause (stop the violence), which is great, but often times the victims are forgotten. This song is dedicated to those that lost their lives too soon and the responsibility we all have to have a positive impact on the youth so we can save more lives.
Lexington, KY’s DJ Goldmouf took it upon himself to compile a collection of tracks from both Devine Carama and Sheisty Khrist. Including cuts from their 2010 collaborative project Only Built For OMG, previously released solo cuts and more. Stream/download after the jump.
We really wanted to go for an early-mid 90′s feels on this one. The mixtape was inspired by a mid 90′s LP so we felt it was only right to have that essence.. Also, so much of just one type of theme is going on right now in hip hop.. Everything is big, expensive, negative, degrading, numb… We just wanted to throw something out there that the opposite to a lot that’s going on right now. Do our part in balancing things out.
On top of a new song (available below), the Lexington, KY native is offering up his entire discography for the free in light of the holiday. To sift through the catelog (that features the likes of CunninLynguists, Nappy Roots, Canibus, Sheisty Khrist, Nemo Achida, etc), check his Bandcamp page and download away.
Back in early 2011 Devine Carama and Sheisty Khrist dropped off their collaborative effort OMG. A visual for Statue hit the Dopehouse the other day. And now we’ve got a track that was originally left on the cutting room floor. DC’s thoughts can be found below.
Me and Sheist were in a zone where we weren’t worried about singles or fan bases or none of that. We were just trying to be as lyrical and creative as possible. We called it “style warz” because our styles are so different so it’s almost like we are sparring on tracks at times and I think this track exemplifies that to the fullest.
After four 2dope leaks (The Message, Soul Dreams, Verbal Shootouts and White Girl Lost), Devine Carama drops off his re-imagining of Nas’ classic Sophomore LP, It Was Written. With production being reworked by 2 Mello, the Lexington native is joined by the likes of Sheisty Khrist, YP, Heather Chula and more.
I just wanted to pay homage to Nas who was the reason I first picked up a pen and began to write in the first place. I also feel “It Was Written” was one of the most slept on albums ever in the critical sense and I wanted to shed light on that particular record in hopes this generation would revisit more music from an era with musical diversity and lyrical dexterity.
