The Roots vs De La Soul (Video)

Davey D catches up with Posdnuos to talk about the formation of De La Soul, the Gorillaz, and what would happen if De La went head to head with the Legendary Roots Crew.

[Black] Thought would kick my ass… haha!

Then at the 4:35 mark, Mos Def interjects to express his love for Stakes is High; which leads to Pos to talk about the industry in 2009 and more.

What’s in the Shake’s Tapedeck v.33

Alright ya’ll… as you can see from the title I’m gonna be switching things up from now on. For the first 32 volumes, I was using the Tapedeck as a post to place tracks I didn’t feel deserved it’s own post, tracks I missed, etc. But over the months I’ve been wanting to put up mixes with my personal playlists. So from here on out the Tapedeck will revolve around what I’m actually bumpin. There won’t be a specific day or routine for these… just when I have time I’ll put together something for ya’ll. I’m thinking of doing concepts, themes, etc. And for this volume I’ve included tracks from the likes of Blu, Pharoahe Monch, Jay-Z, Royce Da 5’9″, Eminem, Elzhi, Little Brother, Mos Def, Chino XL, The Roots, Kanye West, Brother Ali and more. So hit the jump, check out the mix and let me know what ya’ll think!

Tracklist + Download link after the jump…

De La Soul Live @ Nokia Theatre (Video)

While I missed out on Rakim’s show at the Highline Ballroom, I also missed out on the De La Soul one at the Nokia Theatre. Epic Fail all around. Check out more footage under the cut. Props to B Conscious.

De La Soul – Subsoniq Interview (Video)

The Legendary De La Soul swings through Subsoniq and celebrates the twenty year anniversary of their ground breaking album 3 Feet High And Rising! Hear them speak on their influences coming up, the science behind their classic skits, their relationship with Prince Paul, and what’s in store for the next 20? It’s a full three hours with De La, exclusively on Subsoniq!

De La Soul Live In Washington, DC (Video)

De La Soul in my opinion should be one of the GOAT groups in hip hop, as not only have they been putting out quality music for nearly two decades, but not once have you heard anything about them breaking up/beefing with each other unlike many others who get put in that category (Wu-Tang, Outkast, EPMD, etc). Word to Dart. Here’s pieces of their show in DC, courtesy of Big Homie.

De La Soul Live In North Carolina (Video)

Courtesy of Hannah:

De La Soul came to the Cat’s Cradle in NC last night. They put on an amazing show. Kaze and Rapper Big Pooh opened for them. The crowd was filled with people of all different ages and backgrounds. Everything about the night made it one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

Check out “A Roller Skating Jam Named ‘Saturdays’” under the cut.

De La Soul’s 3 Feet High & Rising Original Press Kit (Video)

Let’s go vintage for a bit. URB just put up this electronic press kit for De La’s seminal album. I enjoy things like these, because it allows those who weren’t around to witness it personally when it dropped over a decade-plus ago a glimpse into what it was like.

RubyHornet‘s DJ RTC sits down with Dave & Pos from De La Soul to talk about their debut album, 3 Feet High & Rising, which was released 20 years ago!!!

In this interview, RTC digs into the album as Dave and Pos discuss it’s place in 1989 and 2009. De La Soul also talks about 3 Feet High & Rising in comparison to 89′s other genre changing release, Paul’s Boutique, their feelings for Me, Myself, and I, the simple brilliance of Tread Water, as well as the intricacy of the D.A.I.S.Y. Age and more.
