Years after their well-documented beef, the former Smut Peddlers partners are back at it with the new single off Cage’s upcoming Illuminated: Kill The Architect EP. And while I think it might grow on me, right now… I’m not fully digging the production. But that could be due to the fact I’ve been jamming to this J57 remix I’ve had for a little while.

Also, if you hit the jump you can check out another loosie that Cage wrote to the music playing during the credits of A Serbian Film.

Cage – Super Baked

Up until today, I was completely unaware that Cage was back at it and he was readying a new project. I’ve gotta get back to the Tour life so I can’t really do any “homework” but I believe it’s called The Cutting Room Floor EP and dropping a lot sooner than later. If you have any info, please share in the c-section. And I’ll be sure to edit with details when I have the time. Until then, check out this super dope preview track that was recently placed on Chris’ Soundcloud page.

Shia LaBeouf puts his directing skills to use on the set of CuDi’s new music video. The video is set to be released on Halloween.

Shia LaBeouf On Directing Kid Cudi Video (Video)

During a press run for Transformers 3, Shia LaBeouf speaks to MTV on how his relationship with CuDi came to be.

[Cage] is one of my good friends. Cage, Chris Palko, and I had been trying to make a movie about him for a while.* Cudi hit [Cage] up and did a song with him. Cage sent me the song, called ‘Maniac,’ so initially, we started prepping this video, which is really like a short horror movie that I made that comes out on Halloween. In the interim, while we were finishing up the effects on it, [Cudi] told me he was going to Amsterdam for the Cannabis Cup… And to do that with Cudi when he’s a judge, and I get to roll with him with my 8mm camera [like] an ‘Easy Rider’ documentarian, I felt like Cameron Crowe or something.

The video for Marijuana is already out and Maniac‘s visuals are set for a Halloween release. Check the trailer here.

* I seriously can’t wait for this to come out.

KiD CuDi – Maniac f. Cage (Trailer #2)

They aren’t really gonna just drop trailers until this “short film” comes out on Halloween are they?

The Lonely Stoner links up with the Weathermen frontman on this previously unheard cut. Pretty unorthodox collaboration if you ask me. Props to HHNM.

What’s in the Shakedeck v.4: UG Edition

Around the beginning of the new millennium my musical playlist consisted of about 75% indie hip hop. Any and everything Rhymesayers / Definitive Jux / QN5 / Demigodz / Stones Throw / Weathermen / Psycho+Logical related dropped, I copped. Simple as that. Everyone from Sage Francis to Aesop Rock, Atmosphere to Cunninlynguists, Dilated Peoples, Cage, Copywrite, Louis Logic, Apathy, Celph Titled, Eyedea & Abilities, Mr. Lif, Brother Ali, DOOM… you get the point. And while the percentage might have changed a bit throughout the past few years (be it running 2dbz, indie artists releasing less material, the need for some random ignorance in my life, etc), I will always hold those years close to my heart. And with that sappy story said, I’ve put together a compilation of some of the songs that frequented my CD player. I’m sure this won’t be the last.

Farewell Def Jux: 1999-2010 (Mixtape)

With El-P announcing that indie label Definitive Jux was going on hiatus, the homie Vega went ahead and put together a massive compilation of some of his personal favorite Def Jux tracks. Featuring the likes of Cage, Aesop Rock, Cannibal Ox, El-P, Camu Tao, RJD2, Mr. Lif, Murs & 9th Wonder, C-Rayz Walz and many more. Damn, looking at the tracklist I’m reminded of how many classic records this crew has put out there. UPDATE: Brought this back to the top as I took the time out to tag the files properly. Now it should show up all nice on your iPod/Zune.

Vast Aire – Battle of the Planets (Def Jux x Cage Diss)

In response to Cage’s comments (shown in the block quote below) about Vast’s relationship with Camu Tao (Rest in Peace).

It bothered me very much to see a lot of his enemies claiming this Love they had for him the day after he passed but none when he was dying for a year and a half. Some of you made it right with him before he died. I can understand except one person and in honor of Tero a true shit starter and fire ignitor I would like to out VAST AIRE you are a LIAR and Camu hated you and you know it. You shit on him when you knew he was dying. You disrespected his fiancee weeks after his passing with disrespectful emails.

Whatever the case may be… this shit is depressing. If both of ya’ll were close to Camu why disrespect him by using his name and life as a reason to beef? And even if this wasn’t about Camu… the track was still underwhelming. Anyone remember the Esoteric, Cage, Copywrite, El-P diss tracks? 7700 Years to Date, 9 Lashes, Mercy Killing, Haterama, Do It, etc. There was so much heat from every person involved with that beef. I might have to make a post about that shit. Shouts to Vega.
