The Duck Down VS Blacksmith CMJ Show (Video)

In case you missed the madness on Saturday, Red Bull is re-broadcasting a condensed version of the showcase right now featuring the likes of Smif-N-Wessun, Kidz In The Hall, Pharoahe Monch and more.

Props to Tunji:

In this episode, Kweli talks about meeting Jean Grae for the first time and the two MCs cross paths with comedian/writer David Cross while reminiscing in the park. Jean then hits the Blacksmith offices and terrorizes the staff in her very own special way.

Also, Kweli will be a special guest star on the season finale of NBC’s 30 Rock tomorrow night.

Phil the Agony – Think Green (rmx) f. Mitchy Slick & Chace Infinite

Tunji shot this over yesterday and I forgot to post. My apologies. Anyways… Mitchy Slick & Chace Infinite (Self Scientific) join Phil the Agony on the remix for the title track off his eco-friendly solo album; which drops digitally on April 22nd (Earth Day) and in stores May 5th. You might remember the original featuring Talib Kweli. For more information and the tracklist hit the jump. And incase you aren’t aware… it’s the YearOfTheBlackSmith!

Jean Grae – Hypnotize x Styles P – Kick In The Door [NoDJ]

The production trio that we all know and love, Cookin’ Soul, just shot me my favorite cut (without tags) off their latest Notorious B.I.G. tribute mixtape (which has topped 30k downloads thus far). Another dopeboyz world premier… Jean absolutely rips this up! Bonus, courtesy of NahRight!

Here’s a quick promo clip for Jean Grae’s show at Joe’s Pub tomorrow night, courtesy of the homie Tunji. It’s good to see she didn’t quit rap like she said she was gonna.

Jean Grae at the House of Blues (Video)

[vimeo 3257203]

The homie Tunji just fired over some footage of Jean Grae wrecking shop at the House of Blues in LA. The same night that Black Star got down to perform a few cuts. Those in the NY area… Jean will be performing at Joe’s Pub February 21st. And in case you forgot it’s the YearOfTheBlackSmith!

John Forte & Talib Kweli – Homecoming (Video)

[vimeo 2978883]

Dope new video from Talib Kweli & John Forte directed by ICU. Recorded soon after John’s release from Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution; which came as a result of a pardon from George Bush. Crazy right!? Shouts to the homie Tunji for the heads up.

Strong Arm Steady – Give It Up f. Talib Kweli & Guilty Simpson

Man, paying $15 a day for some shitty ass internet access is fuckin’ lame. Here’s the second leak off SAS’ upcoming mixtape, Gang Mentality, which drops tomorrow! Presented by Talib Kweli & Clinton Sparks. Hit the jump for the artwork and tracklist. Tomorrow also marks the launch of the new BlackSmith blog, YearOfTheBlacksmith.com. Again, I’m getting out on the town. Thanks to everyone that’s hit me up so far. I’m doing my best to respond, etc. And I apologize to everyone for the lack of updates today and probably tomorrow morning. I’ll try and get on a pc throughout the day at times. Enjoy!

Talib Kweli on Sound Session (Video)

[vimeo 2211307]

Waking up from a cough syrup induced coma (shouts to Lil Wayne?) I see this. The MCEO himself stopped by KUBE 93 to make his 4th appearance on Sunday Night Sound Session with DJ Hyphen & J. Moore. Check the video above and watch them chop it up about his current projects; including updates on the next Reflection Eternal album, Idle Warship and all things Blacksmith. They also talk what it’s like to operate his own label, how new media has affected his career, a little politics and more. And as usual, if you’d like the audio Hyphen’s spot for some linkage.

Talib Kweli – Eat to Live (Video)

[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.614740&w=425&h=350&fv=]

Talib makes an interesting yet dope choice for which joint off Ear Drum to release as a new single. I diiiig. While you’re in a Kweli mood, be sure to check OKP for his performance at the Bonnarooand festival and a nice little interview.

An Open Letter to Jean Grae…

Despite having no actual statement from Ms. Grae, it’s safe to say it’s still true as there hasn’t been anything said to go against it. Whether the truth is there or not my man (and Senior Editor at HipHopDX) penned a letter to the rhyme spitter in hopes to keep her on track and recording the music we all want and love.
