Bekay – 15 Months of Bloody Violins

Some have a bad day, others a bad month, and for those really going through it, a bad year. For Bekay, it was 15 months of back to back heart break, where he lost both friends and family to murder and illness. Bekay has always used music as an outlet to work through life’s speed bumps, but what happens when those speed bumps become mountains? On “15 Months of Bloody Violins,” Bekay returns to the mic after taking an inevitable hiatus to purge his mind of the trails and tribulations that have kept him at bay from what he loves most – rapping his ass off. Call this song Bekay’s catharsis, or call it plain insanity, either way Bekay hasn’t lost a step and spits with even more ferocity than even his most die hard of fans are used to.

DOV – Ghost Rhymer f. Bekay

16 year old rapper and James Madison High School student DOV unleashes “Ghost Rhymer,” a song which documents the sexual scandals and other tales of debauchery that have ensued at the Brooklyn school that has earned the moniker “Horndog High.” Using the instrumental from the Skillz’s tell all single “Ghost Writer” (2000, Rawkus Records), “Ghost Rhymer” also features the rapper’s mentor Bekay, who discovered the young emcee in his Midwood neighborhood and has since taken him under his wing as the flagship artist on his Horror Flick Entertainment imprint. Although Horndog High has made national headlines for its sex scandals, DOV doesn’t hesitate to divulge the broad range of lawlessness that occurs on the regular by the school’s faculty – from alleged racism, homophobia, drug-use and more…keep f*ckin’ around, and he’ll put this back out with your names in it.

Bekay – Remember (Video)

In honor of Yom Yashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Bekay and DB put together some visuals for their latest collaboration.

Remember means a great deal to me personally and to those who have dealt with oppression in any capacity. I have relatives who fled from Europe due to religious persecution during the holocaust and so my involvement with this project is a matter of intense personal interest both as an artist and more importantly as a human being. Although this video captures the oppression of the Jewish people during the Holocaust, it’s intended for any man, woman, or child that has dealt with racism or oppression in one form or another as these issues are still very much alive in 2011.

As an artist, I take great pride in creating authentic music that is both timeless and relevant, intended for the everyday people that are dealing with the trials and tribulations of life. Sadly, I find that the current generation of hip-hop has turned a blind eye to issues that matter, which is contrary to the very building blocks of the art form. Language is a powerful tool and I consider it an obligation for anyone calling themself an emcee to use our words not just for the sake of rhyming, but to transmit our culture and history.

Let us all REMEMBER these tragic events in history so we can never let anything like this happen again. Yom Hashoah. – Bekay
