Continuing on with his What Inspires? interview segments, The BeeShine taps into the brain of Apollo Brown to get a sense of what inspires the Detroit producer. Brown’s version of Twelve Reasons To Die (The Brown Tape) available now.
Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent and Red Pill are teaming up as the Ugly Heroes. And with their newly-formed group comes a new self-titled album (May 28, pre-orders available now). Take a listen to the first single (courtesy of NR) below and let us know what you think.
An Ugly Hero is considered a myth. Growing up, the heroes we saw in cartoons and movies were perfectly chiseled, intelligent, and had senses none of us possess. An UGLY HERO is the everyday blue collar individual that makes the world go ’round. These are the heroes that work hard all day, everyday to help ensure that the lives around them are taken care of, and do it all without recognition. They wear themselves into the ground and sacrifice vanity for family.
Soul Temple have decided to release a digital version of Apollo Brown’s Twelve Reasons To Die: The Brown Tape by Ghostface Killah through Bandcamp. The LP was originally set to be put out as a cassette only release as part of “Record Store Day.” An iTunes release as well as a physical release is set to arrive on June 11. Hit the jumo for a stream of the entire project.

Since delivering their collaborative effort Dice Games just about a month ago, they’ve released a ivory vinyl edition of the album with two bonus cuts.
In the same fashion they did with Freeway’s “We Up” DJ Booth is using Talib Kweli’s Attack the Block single as the latest base for their Re-Produced series. The EP (which will feature remixes from Shoden!1 and Willie B (of Digi+Phonics) as well) will arrive December 19th.
Apollo Brown and Guilty Simpson enlist their Left Coast brethren Planet Asia for one of the more “nasty” cuts off their collaborative album, Dice Game, which is available now in all formats (.mp3, CD and vinyl).
The other day I opened my physical mailbox and was pleasantly surprised when I seen a joint album from Apollo Brown and Guilty Simpson in it’s packaging, just waiting to be inserted into my car’s dash. After two solid listens, the project is exactly what you think it would be. Tough as nails. And while the album doesn’t drop until November 13th, folks can get a preview of what to expect by hitting the jump and checking the tracklisting.
Mello Music Group is ecstatic to announce Dice Game, a 16 track collaborative album between Detroit’s Guilty Simpson & Apollo Brown. The former’s work with Madlib and Dilla already establish him as one of the current greats on the mic and the latter’s heralded music with OC and his own group, The Left, hint towards a similar path in his own canon. The Motor City titans join forces to create an unabashedly hardcore record, without catering to the club or radio.
The full-length album is rife with aggressive content that does not sacrifice quality and musicality. This is music for OG’s, for heads who hunger for that quality street music before the genre by-and-large made a caricature of itself. Though the block may be getting icy by release November 13th, stay on the corner with a few veterans and shoot a Dice Game.
