Alongside The Kid Daytona, Rapsody, Fresh Daily and Jah C & Jason Spain, Gangsta Gibbs and 9thmatic will invade Brooklyn’s Southpaw Wednesday September 28th for a show that’s definitely not to be missed (and not just because I will be on the turntables throughout the night either. 9th Wonder sits down with HipHopFiend to break down his upcoming album The Wonder Years (9/27) track-by-track.
Enjoy f. Warren G, Murs & Kendrick Lamar Enjoy is kind of a ‘West Coast’ track everybody on it’s from the West Coast. I was going to name it ‘Past, Present & Future’ but I didn’t because I didn’t want to feel like Warren G is in the past, I think he lives forever. So I changed that to ‘Enjoy’ because the sample is saying “enjoy” and it’s like that’s what it was for me. So it’s Warren G, Murs and Kendrick. Like a legendary West Coast cat, a present day legend with Murs and a future legend with Kendrick Lamar, and they all West coast.
Erykah Badu, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Murs, Mac Miller, Saigon, Kendrick Lamar, Warren G, Big K.R.I.T, Pharoahe Monch, Marsha Ambrosius, Skyzoo, Big Remo, Rapsody, and Phonte Coleman. What the fuck are you waiting on, listen to this thing.
Here is Tigallo’s first Charity Starts At Home offering (notice, he hid the guest offerings from the tracklist he let go on purpose), reuniting him with his “Hiding Place” partners once again.
The artwork gave a hint of who would be tagging along for 9th’s upcoming album (dropping September 27th). Now there’s no need to speculate as the tracklist is after the jump.
With 9th on the boards, the Brooklyn-based duo let loose the first single off their upcoming SFR debut, Rooftop Shake*, dropping September 6th (pre-order now).
9th Wonder provides the soulful sonic backdrop for half of the album and even pokes his head into the vocal booth to make some incredibly rare appearances on the mic. DJ Rob Swift essentially acts an honorary member of Metermaids, accentuating each track by doing what he does best; handling the cuts and adding the stylistic cherry on top. The songs that aren’t produced by 9th are handled by M. Stine, the main contributor to the Metermaids’ previous EP efforts which garnered them over 100,000 downloads as well as the attention of Sage Francis, ultimately leading to their signing on Strange Famous Records. As head of the label, Francis confidently assures the audience that, “If Bill Buckner rapped, it certainly wouldn’t sound like this. They should stop saying stuff like that.”
