I’m a fan of Rich Boy, but let’s be real: that picture started an Internets meme which is more relevant than his musical career thus far. The folks at TheWellVersed have included him and nine other artists in this list of AWOL rappers. Check it out below.
If you currently have a strong dislike for 50 Cent, we’re sorry but this will probably make you dislike him even more. Tonight, we’re putting our “Saturday Night Sexy” spotlight on Filipino/Puerto Rican princess Daphne Joy. We spotted Curtis’ former muse over a year ago when photos of the pair getting cozy on a beach in Mexico had hit the internets. Though we can’t confirm if the two are still flinging, Ms. Joy is still making modeling moves appearing in Sports Illustrated‘s Lady of the Day feature, covers for Smooth, Black Men‘s, and tons more. If you get a chance, peep her Instagram for a more “unrated” peek of the Los Angeles-born beauty and, of course, hit the jump for the Saturday Night goods.
When this artwork for the remix to “I Don’t Like” sprang up last night, some folks were wondering who the hell Chief Keef was, and how he managed to secure an all-star cast for his song. I’ve been reading about him ever since I was asked to spin his music at a show I did in Florida last week* (where I asked that question you see above), and I found this piece in Complex and this more in-depth joint over at Gawker.
A 16-year-old from the South Side of Chicago, he’s been steadily buzzing locally for the last year or so, before a certain video on a certain website threw him into the spotlight which had folks asking the same aforementioned question you see above. The homie Andrew over at Fake Shore Drive has been one of Keef’s earliest supporters, where I was able to get more info on him, but instead of regurgitating what everyone else has said about him I figure I’d take this lazy Saturday morning to express my thoughts on the guy.
It’s ratchet as shit. Like, extremely ratchet. Imagine if the riotous energy Lex Luger and Fozzie Bear mated with the nihilistic, recently-got-shot-9-times 50 Cent and created its own thugged-out offspring, and you have Chief Keef. It’s not lyrically heavy (read: not at all), and it’s more of a Trap Muzik than T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle state of mind. If you’re more into rap’s soulful, “music-with-a-message” stylings, chances are you won’t fuck with him musically. However, if you enjoy your music that’s light on meaning and heavy on #BrilliantIgnorance every once in a while, then you may enjoy his music. Kanye seems to really enjoy it a lot, which likely prompted this collaboration. I’m personally on the fence about Keef, but that may change once this remix drops and/or I get another Chief Keef request at a party I spin (I’m a bit more prepared this time). SHAKE EDIT: Me? I agree 100% with my TSS family and their thoughts.
That’s my two pennies on the matter. Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks, I’m off to be with my favorite person in the world.
* – Interestingly enough, the show where the guy requested Chief Keef was headlined by Reks. Or, interesting to me at least.
MMG’s finest and TDE’s own hit the lab. K-Dot joined Meek Mill in the studio to lay down a verse for Meek’s upcoming Dream Chasers 2 mixtape. The much-anticipated project will arrive online May 7.
Kendrick Lamar’s new single (or Biggie’s Going Back to Cali) said it best… women, weed and weather. And even if you don’t partake in today’s ritual, you can still check the rest of this post for some images to help make you a better person.
Today, Nas’ seminal debut becomes old enough to vote and smoke with the cigarettes. So, the folks at ‘Plex Row unearthed a few facts about the project that some folks may not know, including how Large Professor helped with Nas’ rhymes, why the album was so short and more.

So, basically I’m going to go broke in October and November.
Microsoft announced today that Halo 4 will be available worldwide on November 6. O’Brien will have a special segment on his TBS show tonight to promote the game and its launch, according to the company.
Larry Hryb, director of programming for Xbox Live and best known as “Major Nelson,” tweeted yesterday that O’Brien’s Team Coco will deliver Halo 4 news at some point today. The Verge followed that up with a report last night, citing sources who said Team Coco will announce that Halo 4 will launch on November 6.
Halo 4 is one of the most anticipated game launches this year. The title will feature Master Chief, the hero of the original Halo trilogy, and kick off a new trilogy in the series. – cNet
I know I’ve been talking more about sports and video games than music so far today, but who can blame me. Yo Justice, you may need to get an XBox 360 finally. Head down bottom for the teaser clip from last year’s E3 convention.
The last time the Clippers played basketball past April gas was about $2.25 a gallon, Bush was still in office, The Boondocks was a new show on Adult Swim, Vin Baker, Sam Cassell and Cutino Mobley weren’t retired and Jay-Z had just come out of a not-really-retirement. As a long-standing (and long-suffering) fan of LA’s red-headed stepchild, it’s good to see the second-longest active playoff drought finally end against one of the bigger threats of the postseason, the Zombie Sonics Oklahoma City Thunder. The Clips are still a young team (losing Billups to injury was a pretty big blow), but it seems like they’ve finally found a groove and could potentially be one of the more dangerous teams in the playoffs. Good luck, Clips. Is wanting to see a Clippers-Lakers playoff series wishful thinking?
Halfway through the tour, we stopped through Stockholm so CL and Tone could perform for a massive sold-out crowd. Hit the jump for some more moments that I captured.
