Today marks the 20th anniversary of Snoop Doggy Dogg’s classic debut Doggystyle. With 800,000 copies sold in it’s first week, Snoop became the first artist to have a debut album take the #1 spot on Billboard 200. Two decades later, the album has sold over four million records in the U.S. and is still played front to back from fans all over the world.

During a sit down with MTV about the anniversary, Snoopy admits to never listening to Doggystyle in it’s entirety.

I don’t believe I’ve ever listened to the whole album and I’m being honest with you. I ain’t never listen to Doggystyle top to bottom. I may have listened to songs, but I’ve never listened to it.

Obviously he’s aware of the impact and is still proud of his achievement.

Back then it meant a lot because it was being able to stand on my own two feet and put out a project for the first and to actually be heard and seen for who I am individually. Now what it means, it’s an accomplishment. Looking back at it, it was very well put together, it was standards, it showed me the way to do it, the only way to do it.

Closing out the conversation, Snoop reveals his favorite song is either “Gz and Hustlas” (which started as a freestyle during a mic check) or “Murder Was the Case.” Which leads us to the same question for y’all. What’s your favorite song off Doggystyle? Let us know!
