In celebration of the influential careers of Oakland’s Hieroglypics collective and the Souls of Mischief’s 20th anniversary of their debut album 93 ‘Til Infinity, the second annual Hiero Day music festival brought peace among the streets of Oakland while celebrating the culture of Bay Area hip hop. Held at the Linden Street Brewery, the 100% free block party was a way for the members of the Hieroglypics to give back to their community and be proud of being able to be a part of its history in a positive way. Hosted by Sway Calloway, Chuy Gomez and Mistah Fab, the festival boasted three stages with 30 acts plus including the Kev Choice Ensemble, Strong Arm Steady, Adrian Younge with Venice Dawn, Fashawn, Murs and more, including a closing performance by the legendary Hieroglypics crew. Just before closing the event, the honorees were presented with an official proclamation by Sway Calloway proclaiming September 3rd “Hiero Day” before ending with an all-live set filled their classic tracks over the years.
