I definitely respect the indie hustle with PNCINTL because that's dope but musically he is not good, at all and you guys know it. He does have dope production and features because he's connected with the likes of Dom Kennedy, Odd Future and the rest of the new school elite but as an artist - no! - as a business - probably so. I don't care that he's young, Eric B. & Rakim was killing shit when they first started and they were his same age. Shit, Michael Jackson was 8 and he was lead in Jackson 5 - so don't do that age vs. talent shit. You either got it or you don't, period. People care WAY more about image than skill.
^^^^^ FOH ! Casey THAT NIGGA PERIOD. Go listen to Roses, Euphoria II, & Faces.
she fuckin wit veggies so she must be on a diet ahhaha
Life Changes >
@MusicHead those songs are dope solely because of the production man. Roses, Euphoria I & II & Faces are perfect examples of what I was talking about earlier (Production carrying artist). Thanks for validating my point. At the same time though if you f*ck with Casey, it's all good man I'm not knocking your taste. I listen to Ridin' Round Town occasionally but it's not because of his impressive lyrics - it's because the beat knocks.
Den wouldnt it be musically good if the beats bang @Fish afterall it is the beat that set the mood of the music anyways. I would understand if u said lyrics but the fact that u said he isnt musically good when u like his beat selection is a lil inconsistent.
@SforMusic I do agree that beat selection does definitely set the mood for the track and is very, very important for an artist of any genre for that matter. The thing is I feel rappers/R&B singers rely on the production to make up for their lack of lyrical/rapping/singing ability. That's exactly where my problem with Casey is: dope production, bad rapping - you're totally right there is that inconsistency there. When I give an opinion about something I think it's important to give the good with the bad, you don't have to completely NOT like an artist. I was one of the first ones to get Sleeping in Class way back when and I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he was new and I'd figured he would grow overall and has a lot but NOT in terms of rapping, he's still bad but he has a dope image and following which is what's overriding his lyrics. Most people don't care about lyrics now as long as the beat is dope and their popular so I understand if I sound like a hater - but I'm just being completely honest with myself and you guys here on 2dope. I'm just one reflection of all of this.
No lie, I agree with you.
I also agree @Fish
@Fish I get you 100% if you said had Casey isnt good lyrically I would understand ...hell 99% of ppl in 2dope complain about the same thing so im not willing to fight them all.... All Im saying you cant say Casey isnt musically good when he has great beat selection and if you like the beats you use cos that is actually making the music good. Casey makes Riding music, it aint meant to be too complex lyrically , it is meant to invoke a certain kind of emotion and certain kind of feel. Instrumentation plays a very bigger role in music than lyrics sometimes and we tend to not believe that cos rap is
language-based art. but the fact is this you can be the best lyrical rapper in the world but if you beat selection is shit, your music is shit
@SforMusic yeah music production has evolved to the point where you don't really need vocal/rapping/singing ability because the beats are so rich & well put together that lyrics will almost get in the way more than half the time. Imagine if Gucci Mane was dropping straight complex lyrical shit over some Zaytoven beats haha. I totally hear you. All love.
