Back in 2009, I headed to Phoenix to attend Sha Money XL’s 2009 One Stop Producers Conference. A weekend that was full of incredible panels featuring DJ Premier, Just Blaze, 9th Wonder, Pete Rock, Don Cannon, Nipsey Hussle, Cory Gunz, RZA and many others. During the three day trip, iStandard Producers held a beat showcase that had Just, 9th, Cannon, Pete Rock and a few others judging. And while a producer that goes by Billboard ended up winning, I remember California’s Malek (under the alias “Hit Makers”) making a solid impression on the judges as well as the packed crowd (despite his “non-hip hop look” that I heard a few folks whispering about smh).
Four years removed, and countless placements on television shows on NBC, HBO, MTV, E! and ABC, Malek delivers his Sophomore project.
