K-Dot earned the #1 spot in a unanimous decision, while 2 Chainz landed in the #2 slot. While both MCs made indelible marks in the last year, it was Kendrick’s artistry and commercial appeal that helped him earn the title. Lyrically, Lamar is an expert spitter who weaves complex rhyme patterns around soul-drenched beats, with as unique a style as rap has seen in years. And while verbal depth isn’t usually a marker for rap success, the Compton rapper moved major units when he dropped his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city.

Quickstrike Cole’s problem is his inability to diversify his music. He needs to cut the double time, and let these other producers get their hands in on his work. He is dropping mix tape music. For his first album which got a lot of debut buzz based off FNL that was cool. But Cole’s career is riding on more collaboration on his work. I feel like every time I hear a new Cole record it’s different lines over the same beat kit.

He has not been performing. Honestly both records do nothing for me beyond being good songs by an artist I like.

Cole got slighted on last year’s list. As much as I disn’t particularly like the entire project it did debut at #1. It had Workout(which I HATED) but it went platinum. And I would argue that In the Morning was his biggest commercial record and was a good song, Can’t Get Enough and Nobody’s Perfect as solid singles. I think that was enough to grant him a spot last year. I do agree with the Macklemore comment he’s ALL over the place right now Ellen, David Letterman etc. debuted at #2 on the charts independantly, and Thrift Shop doing the #’s that it did. He should have definitely been on the list X out Meek Mill.
I’m not only impressed by Kendrick being number one, but even more impressed that these fuckers at MTV didn’t even put Lil Wayne on this dumbass list.
