Mannie Fresh Says OMFGOD Project w/ Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Is Complete

We’ve seen the two working in the studio, now Mannie Fresh has confirmed that his OMFGOD project with Mos Def is complete and is currently in the mixing stage. Keeping it to a feature-free 10-track project, Mannie shares some thoughts with HipHopDX.

We recorded way more than that. But rather than to [just] have somebody say like, ‘Oh, wow’ – I think a lot of times when you do that you throw away music. So, I just wanna give people like ten bangers and let’s be out.

Mos is a Hip Hop head, so it kinda came easy. And, by him being a Mannie Fresh fan, and me being his fan, it came real easy. And I think that’s the way the process should be. We should have fun. It was no stress; we didn’t have no budgets from nobody, we didn’t have nobody hanging over us, no A&Rs. It was just something that we decided to do.

The New Orleans producer also revealed that they had a “couple of offers” from labels but they’ve decided to release it digitally on their own instead. Dope!

  1. PRESS THIS UP! I NEED THE CD!

  2. cant wait for this

  3. DIGITALLY DIRECT IS THE FUTURE, FUCK A LABEL. I will support this and I don’t buy music or particularly love either of these guys in a way i’d buy their stuff abnormally.

  4. Is it a mixtape, EP, or album? Aren’t they both signed to G.O.O.D. Music (Bey as an emcee and Mannie as a producer)? If so, wouldn’t GOOD Music/Def Jam have the right to put it out? Regardless, I’m pumped for it.

  5. Now THIS is something to anticipate..

  6. Shake you gay for using a exclamation point like that bruh “Dope!” lookin ass nigga

    ^ lmao

  11. @JohnnyTarr I looked that up and saw that. I thought he was with Very Good Beats, but I guess not. Anyway, Yasiin Bey is though so wouldn’t this project have to come out through GOOD/Def Jam? I’m just asking. Bey wasn’t on Cruel Summer either so I was wondering if he got dropped, left, or what happened.

  12. I don’t think Yasiin Bey is signed to GOOD in terms of contractually in the label sense. I heard in interview where Mos said that he’s just going from project to project at this stage of his career and looking for one strike deals in terms of distribution. Kinda how Common is on GOOD but is distributed thru Warner Bros.

  13. YES! Now just put it on WAX please!

  14. from the 3-part video series, it sounds like Mannie’s best work in years. And of course, Mos is gonna kill every damn instrumental Mannie throws at him. This has the potential to be project of the year. I mean…the OMFGOD track alone sounds like a classic and we’ve only heard like 15 seconds of it.
