Kendrick Lamar – Swimming Pools (Drank) (prod. T-Minus)

Kendrick Lamar takes a deep breath and dives in with his new song “Swimming Pools (Drank)”. A track produced by T-Minus where he reflects on the hardships of growing up around alcohol and also gets “faded” as he rhymes in the second verse. His album, good kid, m.A.A.d city is scheduled to be released October 2nd.

  1. First.Dope

  2. Maybe I need more listens cause didn’t like it at first. Very commercial

  3. not bad, but I hope the rest of the album is much better

  4. Sounds like some mainstream Garbage .

    & the concept of the song Y A W N & played out .

  5. Kendrick is so nice

  6. So far all the GKMC songs have been dope. Cartoons & Cereal, The Recipe, and now this.

  7. dooooooope! a comercial song that still fits his style and what he stands for. 2 thumps up in my book

  8. this a grow on u…I guess… but “good kid m.A.A.d city” sound corny as hell… good kid B.A.A.d city sound more fitting and makes more sense… somebody get em to change that shit for he regret that down the line

  9. Dope!!

  10. Already know people are gonna call this too “mainstream” and commercial. Who gives a fuck? He killed it and did it better than your favorite rapper. The 2nd verse>>>

  11. Stann Smith X Kendrick Lamsr….make it happen!

  12. Meh. It’s very average for a Kendrick song. Just like The Recipe. So far I’m not impressed by anything off the new album. I really hope he doesn’t disappoint when the album drops.

  13. i think we are all missing the point that this nxgga just successfully made a mainstream track while staying true to his craft. Clap for em. shit is dope. i fxck with it.

  14. whats played out? lmao at trolling with no solid reason to hate. @realweak

  15. I fucks with this heavy. Perfect display of how to make a “mainstream” sounding song while remaining true to who you are as an artist. Dope verses and a catchy chorus (despite the fact I usually am not a fan of rappers singing for choruses).

Props to Kendrick. It sucks knowing a lot of people are going to start jumping ship soon claiming that he’s “sold out”, but oh well. For whatever reason, hip-hop fans hate when their favorite artist starts blowing up.

  16. This shit sound like every other T-Minus beat out there… Kendrick should known better as an artist… unless the label pushed him to make some commercial bullshit like this to bring hype! Either way, this was boring!

  17. Not impressed at all …

  18. I think the song is fine. It is a little more mainstream especially the format its in (2 verse and then all chorus). Subject matter is meh, but its still better then 90% of all mainstream music out.

  19. “just blew a nut to this…and i didn’t even listen to it yet”

  20. The concept of the song Meaning the lyrics i guess you were
too dumb down drinking your fluoride to understand …..

  21. “i pressed the dope button…the second i was kendrick’s ankles in that picture”

  22. “i would take a bullet for Kendrick…even a cumshot”

  23. jsut because the beat is mainstream sounding yall don’t like it? so your telling me “40″, Ye, JUSTICE LEAGUE, and plenty other dope producers are wack too right? yall don’t know shit about hip hop music then, stick with your bitchass soul samples and call it a day wack ass backpackin niggas.

  24. but word up, why haven’t 2dbz posted stann smith 2nd @ race america yet??????

  25. “i stopped the song 10 seconds in…and got on my knees to pray to the almighty one”

  26. @hmmap U TIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, THE BEAT IS TRASH FUCKBOY!!!!!!!

  27. Best mc doin it. Stop looking for the kid to fail. This is a nice record. Can’t wait for the LP

  28. “I downloaded the song twice…just so I can say I did it nigga”

  29. This is like a lesser version of A.D.H.D. As soon as I saw T-Minus produced the track I knew I wouldn’t like it as much as I could’ve, all his beats sound the same. I guess this is a good enough compromise between remaining true to your craft and going mainstream though.

  30. “I would drink anything he offers me…anything”

  31. and how is speaking alcoholism not good subject matter? “do yall listen to music or just skim through it?” like i hardly ever comment on pages but im realizing that just like drake, j cole, and ever other artist that starts getting popular and changes up his sound a lil bit, yall feel like you have to act like you don’t don’t like their shit anymore to feel good about yourself.

  32. stop being overcritical..the only aspect of the song that is remotely mainstream is the hook/chorus..other than that this is vintage Kendrick and I don’t think youve ever heard a mainstream song where a rapper is spittin from the perspective of his subconscious like he did on the 2nd verse..this song is on the same level as songs like ADHD and Cartoons and Cereal..oh and @TYPICAL HARDCORE KENDRICK FANS stop getting butthurt cause your favorite rappers doesn’t get as much love as Kendrick..jealousy is a disease

  33. “I have nothing better to do during my day than spend 10 minutes posting comments over and over again”

  34. Who knows if this will even be on the official album. Punch just said he felt like releasing a Kendrick track today and did. If this was an official single for the album I’m sure it would have been pushed more with artwork and a projected date but who knows. Either way true Kendrick fans should appreciate this not for its lyricism or content, but for it being a track to get his name out to a bigger radio audience. TDE are the few artists in this industry that have complete creative control and would never sell out just to make a quick buck or fit in with these other wack niggas on the radio. HiiiPower bitch

  35. <<< Goes back to listen to the Nas Album

  36. The song’s really good. It’s not one of my favorites but i’ll definitely listen to it a lot more times, it’s not gonna be one of those songs that stays on repeat though. It kinda reminds me of ADHD.

  37. “I’m here to defend Kendrick no matter what, if the song is good or bad, I will go to war if you go against our leader…but on the real tho I wish I can massage those ankles”

  38. why does this song sound like a girl made it, could have fooled me – he sounds like kreyshawn ALOT

  39. k-dot >>> every rapper ever.- seriously

  40. @realweak please, list all songs with this same concept. Give me 2 and u win

  41. @hmmop listen to Room For Improvement and Comeback Season by Drake and then listen to the shit he puts out today..that’s a huge change in style..listen to the Warm Up by J. Cole and then bullshit like Workout..that’s a huge change/water down in style..now listen to Section 80 then this new track by Kendrick, its still the Kendrick were used to..people are just reaching and expecting him to sell out like the rest

  42. extremely dope….

  43. Looks like single artwork to me…Lol I swear some people who be posting on here are just the biggest fools ever.

  44. this sound like a mix between p&p and adhd kendrick lamar gotta change it up a bit feel like i done heard this concept from him a million times

  45. Its decent at first listen. It only seems average because we’ve heard so much better from him. I think judging by Cartoons and Cereal plus The Recipe, the album will have a good balance of beats, lyrics, content and mass appeal.

  46. When TAMMY’S SONG dropped, hating. When the album dropped, loving. My 2cents…wait for the whole product.

  47. @yoyo

Exactly. Same goes with Wiz…listen to his Prince of the City/Grow Season mixtapes and then listen to Rolling Papers. Some rappers actually do completely change when they blow up.

BUT…do you guys REALLY think this song sounds that much different than Kendrick’s past work? If you heard this song last year on Section 80, I’d bet you wouldn’t think it’s out of place with the rest of the songs on there.

People just hate seeing an artist get mainstream attention. These fucking hipsters get hard off of knowing about an artist before others…once the artist blows up, they find a new “underground” artist to dickride.

  48. @yoyo I like how u compare old ass projects to J Cole and Drake’s latest albums then compare Kendrick’s last album with this one song. Bias much? I think so

  49. @fuck u typical dumbass

Alright, if you want to get technical, listen to O.D or Kendrick Lamar EP by Kendrick. This song still wouldn’t seem out of place IMO.

  50. Sounds like in the lyrics hes at a party then hes fighting the inner self to fight the Alcohol not being like everyone else then hes influenced by pure pressure by others around him then drinks the Alcohol ….

    Eh?

Pretty much boring & Simple to me…

  51. 2 FUCKING DOPE. good kid, m.A.A.d city October 2nd MUUHHHH FUCKAS!

  52. @yoyo i feel on drake, but besides j cole being over beats i don’t like he is still the same imo, look at shit like lost ones, nobody’s perfect, daddy’s lil girl, sideline story, and plenty songs off of FNL. but that’s not the point, all im sayin is if ppl weren’t feeling it because they thought it sounded too similar to adhd(which is how i felt) or they didn’t like the beat something like that I wouldn’t have a problem.

  53. Never disappoints!

  54. i really didnt like this song at first listen but it got better on the second listen people need stop acting like everything kdot drops is gold dood can jump on a track and say i suck dick for sandwiches for 3min and i bet you guys would defend it let people have their opinions this this is not the first song ive heard about alcoholism and if its yours you need to broaden your horizon but ill d/l and see how it sounds in the car

  55. Dog..so many fucking trolls on here.. I fucking HATE 2dopeboyz commenters y’all are like the politicians of hip hop.. Heads so far up your asses and noses all up on the air when someone starts getting successful or changes they style up just a little.. “man this shit is terrible” The nigga just gave us a pure Mainstream Hip Hop song..not any bubbly shit and y’all still bitchin.. everybody is too good for the artists as listeners..idk what the fuck y’all are expecting to hear now a days.. I bet if Jesus himself sang in your ear.. you would find something wrong with it.. STFU and enjoy this dope ass music..or get the fuck on..damn I don’t know how Shake and Meka deal with this shit.

  56. waccckkkk. who the fuck let him put this out with that hook and bridge? how repetitive, another anti alcohol song. he dont believe this shit he just says it to be different. wat a faggot amirite

  57. Yes it would, you obviously haven’t heard the change but I’ve heard Kendrick going from experimenting with concepts in EP and OD to experimenting with singing more and Ali stepping up his engineering on each project. You are biased. I’m ur outside view

  58. ehhh…idk about this one. Idk if i like it or not but definitely reminds me of ADHD

  59. Kendrick steady fallen off this song is ass cheeks west coast ain’t got nothin poppin especially releasing this lame shit

  60. Lol how the fuck is this “mainstream” it’s legit Kendrick, it could easily have been on Section.80.

  61. this bangs, the 2nd half of the chorus should have been the whole chorus…i would say the first half with him singing is kinda week and corny

usher’s lemme see is better pre game music but ill bang this out once tho

  62. For the record, if Jesus was SINGING in my ear, I would definitely question why the fuck he was doing that. Stupid example, I agree with ur statement tho

  63. Y’all niggas woulda been the same niggas that when 2pac dropped I get Around back in the 90s sayin “man this shit weak, this hook weak and it’s a generic beat”… but now look.. I swear 85% of the niggas that comment on this website all think they created the genre themselves and if it doesn’t match their definition it’s garbage.

  64. If you don’t think this is dope, fuck you. Straight up.

  65. This shit is fuckin trash

  66. @yoyo I like how u compare old ass projects to
J Cole and Drake’s latest albums then compare
Kendrick’s last album with this one song. Bias
    much? I think so
    Fuck u typical dumbass said
    ……………………..
this is the first time I’ve seen Kendrick be accused of being “mainstream” and you can compare “Workout” by J. Cole to Friday Night Lights and its still a huge water down..and Drake’s change took place on Take Care and now he does these damn typical DJ Khaled tracks…Kendrick has never devolved and dumbed down like the others and Wiz Khalifa, he’s EVOLVED especially when it comes to concepts and songwriting..the lyrics on this song and Recipe is no different than the Kendrick we’re used to

  67. I say i don’t want to be the same like everyone else then contradict myself because my excuse is the people around me & my inner self Aka Satan is telling me take a sip of alcohol .

    WACK AS FUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. ommmmmgggg i can’t believe it, kendrick has gone mainstream!!?? this nigga done sold out to the system, tryin to get on billboard…i heard his next single is dubstep/dance song featuring David Guetta and Clay Aikon

  69. @P-NuT dawggg I wouldn’t be surprised at dis point

  70. I have a feeling Section.80 gone be a little more valuable after this shit drops…

  71. Niggas is crying over this shit.

Either crying while saying “awww man, Kendrick’s gone mainstream”

    or

“Leave Kendrick alone, this is the same Kendrick!”

Who the fuck wants to stay the same or be in the same position in life forever? If you feel he’s changed, get used to it, that’s what people do when they gain attention & wealth. If you think he’s the same, you’re close-minded & blind as hell.

You’re all wrong. You wanna know why? Because neither of us are in this nigga’s mind. We don’t know what the fuck his plans are. Everything isn’t for finicky ass, so called “fans” & “hip-hop heads”. So calm the fuck down, watch & listen. Or do neither. Sometimes people do shit because it’s what they want.

  72. This song is going to fuck some people up.

  73. I like this alot. I really like T-Minus’s beats, just always wanted someone to spit over them rather then sing like Drake always does. This is a really good option for someone like Kendrick to spit over his beats.

I do understand how the content of this song can get a little over played, but still sounds good to me. I mean technically everything has already been done and overused. Name a subject a rapper hasn’t rapped about and you got yourself a million dollar idea.

  74. ^Haha, that an awesome comment. I agree with a lot of the positive comments. My question is why are some dudes hating. The song is tight, if you support Kendrick you want him to come out with joints like these that the radio will eat up. Its not like he’s out here straight changing his style up, same exact Kendrick to me. The chorus sounds similar to ADHD so I don’t understand where the major disappointment stems from. I can understand some dudes thinking the song may be soft but y’all know he’s gonna put out some fire on other tracks, but niggas saying the boys fallen off are damn foolish.

  75. man i cant believe yall, i guarantee had this song been on his earlier mixtapes and work, you guys would be fuckin with this track but nah fuck that yall just wanna say its wack cuz its a track off his album and be critical of k.dots album cuz its the trendy thing to do… SMFH, there should be no “nopes” on this track.. this track is fuckin FIRE

  76. @Armand without the fans there is no artist fuck you for supporting whack ass music and Kendrick for this lame ass track

  77. i dont give a fuck whether he’s change on not, whether its mainstream or not … the SONG is mediocre. Why is it so hard for people to just judge the music?

  78. this shit is fire Kendrick didnt change his style he still sends out a interesting message like he always dose….. Kendrick Lamar is still makein good music in my eyes.

  79. Who’s to say the song is good or bad? It’s all opinion, he released a song so be thankful if you’re a fan and if not keep it moving…very simple solution.

    ^^^ Cosign 20001%
All these dudes do is cry over Music just Shut the fuck up and enjoy or keep it movin

  81. shake said it..

  82. MISS PEAS CAN’T WRITE FOR SHIT!!! What’s up with the takes a deep breath and dives, obvious analogies are what makes journalism sooooo corny and stoopid…this is a hip hop blog for fux sake…

  83. He really just made a mainstream, commercial song. It’s actually kinda dope.

  84. dope

  85. coasign @hmmop
yea it might have a lil bit of a commercial sound but at least he’s talking about something. I mean did half of yall even listen to what he was talking about and not just the hook? seesh

  86. *Sigh* fans in this age cannot be pleased at all. I quit

  87. ADHD Part 2… it’s a cool track that grows on you.. the sound is the same as Section 80, I don’t see what all the hate is about..

  88. I’ve decided to stop reading the comment sections on here. Can’t tell if people are just straight up stupid or are just trying to troll in order to get responses from people. I’m just going to listen to the music from now on and move on.

  89. @QBN

Don’t you know how hip-hop fans are? Once an artist blows up and gets the recognition they deserve, the artist is no longer “cool”. They become “mainstream” and start making “shitty radio music”.

In a way, I’m glad Biggie and Pac died at a young age. It didn’t give people time to turn on them and start acting like they “sold out”.

  90. now that we got a new kendrick post that everybodys commenting on ….can anybody tell me what the ‘m.A.A.d’ in good kid m.A.A.d city stands for ???

  91. I think ALL of the 24 NOPES are trolls who already left their hate comments in the c section, THERE IS 723 DOPES!!!!!

LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL!

  92. @ Sphere & Armand – my thoughts exactly. @ Shake – u da fuckin man for saying that.

  93. if this was the exact same song but with wayne instead this shit would have 700 thumbs down and you niggas would say its weak. but since its kendrick yall wanna dickride. yall are funny style

  94. this is DOPE! Concept, Sound, Flow…great track

  95. @eq

The thing is, Wayne DOESN’T put out shit like this. So that’s why people don’t receive it in the same manner. Wayne’s “mainstream” songs are dumbed down completely, meanwhile this is Kendrick’s most “mainstream” song and it still has a message and some dope ass verses.

You can call fans “dickriders” all you want, but there’s a reason Kendrick gets the support he does. Whether you want to admit that or not is up to you.

  96. Agreed with eq, Im a Kendrick fan but honestly if wayne made the EXACT same song as this yall would be quick to throw shade. This song is average BUT it has a good concept imo.

  97. well said eq well said.

  98. @ fuck hipsters, you rather have Biggie and Pac dead than have some people say they sold out? That’s some morbid shit. We would still have their classic material plus more. Nas never sold out. Pete Rock never sold out. Wu-tang never sold out. Why would Biggie and Pac? and you hate hipsters… you’re a hatin bitch.

  99. wow this just sounds bad thru decent speakers. worst t minus beat i can recall and a crossover attempt hook but its gonna fall very, very flat

  100. lol sound like some white girl mob throw away shit.

  101. If you like the song then you like the song if you dont then you dont, its no big deal. You dont have to come up with reasons why people should like the song if they just dont. I have told a few of my friends that Ev & ALC is dope and they have no clue what is dope about them and thats fine cause some people just dont get it. This song from Kendrick is alright but its not his best work. The thing is some people just dont like when hip hop starts getting melodic and if they dont they just dont and thats ok. Im sure most of you hate the Take Care album but some people still like that type of sound. If Kendrick stays on this type of shit, he’ll might lose some day one fans but at the same time gain new fans and its all good.

  102. I Fucking love this song ! I don’t see why people don’t like it . It’s not mainstream bullshit this IS Kendrick . great song man , can’t wait for good kid m.A.A.d city !

  103. Who gives a fuck cudi & kendrick are doing tracks together, The world can end & i can die happy. Fuc ya’ll.

  104. Im a huge Kendrick fan but dude has made some shitty tracks b4 and this is one of them not feeling this at all but still looking forward to the album I know its gonna be dope!

  105. I dig this this dope like P&P part 3 tho P&P and P&P part 2 DOPEr!

  106. This song is fucking amazing.yo Shake you know what would make this site 2doper?if you made it possible for us to reply to each others comments.

  107. Tammys song: You ain’t gotta get drunk to have fun!

Swimming Pools: Pool full of liquor I’mma dive in it

  108. I’m loving this shit already. It’s a grower though.

  109. Yea this for them white folk.

  110. @MyFiddyCents

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! He said “You ain’t gotta get drunk to have fun” In “No Make Up” #Fail

  111. Early the next morning Lamar is back in the studio waiting for the other Hippies before a photo shoot. Taking the opportunity to touch up some tracks, he operates as his own engineer, pressing record a few bars early and then sprint hopping back into the vocal booth to lay his own vocals. Produced by Drake affiliate T-Minus, the track sounds a lot like, well, a Drake song with its bluntly emotional fluttering synths. It’s a record that could fit in quite comfortably on current day rap radio and yet Lamar seems a little embarrassed to be playing it in mixed company, perhaps recalling the fourth law of Top’s manifesto: Uniqueness. He emphatically points out that the track is not intended for his forthcoming album. It is, instead, “some freelance shit.”- via fader magazine

  112. Lol @ ppl saying something is mainstream/commercial cuz of the drum pattern yall need to listen this song is against liquor and how it affect the community i guess it take a niga who really from the hood nd understand wat kendrick tlkn bout to see the bravery in his songs.. sad cuz is yall who really need to understand the message

  113. TDE niggas is wack.

  114. This song is really dope. I cant wait for that Good Kid, Mad City album. Kendrick is about to change the game just like Drake and and Cole did.

  115. Too dope.

  116. ^I remember that shit, good find bruh

  117. #1 weed head is smokin that bammer!!!! Tde high powwweeerrrrr!! K dot is a genius. The west is bringing life in the game (yall can kill it)

  118. @Fuck You

I don’t think dude was serious about being glad Pac and Biggie died (at least I hope no one would be that sadistic)…it was probably just a hyperbole to make a point.

  119. Kendrick is spitting his ass off on this joint

  120. Why has this got nearly double the thumbs of trust of Life is Good?!

  121. @Henz

    Cause it’s that.. damn.. good.

  122. the hook is very very mainstream/commercial but the verses are lyrical, but he did this for his single cuz then people who don’t already know of him will come to him cuz they herd him on the radio etc etc

  123. @henz

dont judge thumbs up/down on a site with nothing but male groupies. if you the type to go off of likes/dislikes go to youtube. nothin but male groupies on this shit who thumb up/down some shit before they even hear the shit. homosexuals for kendrick run deep on here.

  124. HERE WE GO!!! As soon as an artist rises from the underground to drop their official debut, people start saying they changed. THIS is kendrick!! I bet if you didn’t know it was produced by T-Minus you wouldn’t say that he’s changed. You see a popular producer and start talking shit. Dope lyrics, hook, and beat. ASAP Rocky was right about hip-hop fans being closed-minded.

  125. this dude needs to put out a song that i produced

  126. but………

if told you that was KID CUDI flowing on the first verse you wouldnt know its not

  127. If you liked this song than you just saw KDot’s name and just hit dope witout a listen. Shit’s wack as hell! Imma huge KDot fan but this shit shut me up as a KL dick rider

  128. This shit raw as fuck..

  129. man i thought dude was gone be on some double white cup shyt

  130. @SchoolboyTDE

Look up the word “subjective”. Or maybe the word “opinion”.

  131. If you’re talking about how artists change their sound once they blow up, and you’re comparing Kendrick’s new music to Cole World and Thank Me Later/Take Care; you’re wasting your time, because there is no comparison. I’m a huge fan of both J. Cole and Drake, but if Kendrick’s album is going to sound like Cartoon & Cereal, The Recipe, and this, then it cannot come soon enough, and is surely going to be album of the year by some distance, and comparing it to other mainstream hip-hop such as recent releases from J. Cole and Drake is a waste of either breath, or finger exercise, typing those words out. Long story short; no one out right now is touching Kendrick, or even coming close, and I would love for someone to offer me a suggestion as to who is…

  132. This shit goin straight to BET negga!…look for them Wayne, Meek, Ross remixes comin! lol…nah all bullshit aside…dope track K.dot. I like the shit.

  133. The funny thing is gonna be if this actually becomes a hit like Black and Yellow or Work Out. I heard a lot of people talking shit about those records but those ended up being big records. It funny a lot of folks here don’t wanna hear these artists release anything that could remotely get them some mainstream acceptance. What exactly is different from this song and ADHD for example besides T-Minus producing and a catchier hook?

  134. @yeaaahh Exactly. If this said produced by Sounwave, I don’t think there would be as much backlash.

  135. Sounds like the same old Kendrick Lamar I’ve been hearing. This is a dope track, I like the alcohol theme.

  136. i dig i dig he needs an energetic track. some hype shit everything been chill

  137. @Ryan

    Chill ma, point still stands

  138. Hip Hop/ Rap fans know everything in the WORLD I am surprised we all aren’t millionaire scientist we know smallest things & tweeks that can destroy the Artists that we once loved

THESE RAPPERS BETTER GET IT TOGETHER BECAUSE THEIR FANS ARE HARD TO PLEASE IN THIS DAY IN AGE! ZEN MASTERS THEY KNOW EVERYTHING!

  139. This is how you begin to take over the game.

  140. @MyFiddyCents

Did you even listen to the verses…? You do realize this song isn’t really promoting alcohol use, right?

  141. @mcmg Ab-Soul. Word.

  142. when are we gonna hear some HiiiPower type shit?…tired of hearing radio type songs….that’s all anyone drops nowadays…

  143. @hiphopcritic

We’ve heard two songs from the album…and if Cartoon & Cereal is going to be on the album, then I’d hardly count that as a “radio type song”. Not to mention Ab-Soul just dropped an entire album of “Hiiipower type shit” back in May.

BTW, if all of the music on the radio was at this level of creativeness and lyricism, I’d be much more content with the state of hip-hop than I am right now.

  144. Great SONG!!

  145. If U hate on Kendrick Lamar, u don’t like HipHop! Period. This is dope.

If u hate Kendrick Lamar just bCoz he’s now getting his shine, yur pathetic & u will always b a failure bCoz success wont come the way of those who hate on it!

Y’all gon do the exact same thing y’all did with Drake, Wiz & J.Cole. How can u HipHop fans even look at yourself in the mirror? Your reflection should hunt u …

  146. The more I listen to this, the more impressed I am. Most of y’all wont be hating if u didnt know it was produced by T-Minus.
Remember, this is supposed 2 b a radio single for the 90s babies. how many artists can handle sucha daunting task better? He had to make it relevant to children of 2 decades (80s x 90s)! & I think he succeeded. Dope intricate Lyrics, smashing concept & dumbed-down/catchy hook!

  147. I can see this getting a lot of radio play, and i’m not mad at that; this song is nice. Party/kick back joint playing in the background when you playing bp and sippin brew taking shots. I personally like the last bridge at the end. “I ride, you ride, BANG”

  148. Y’all niggas just don’t know. Kendrick Lamar is a beast. I been bumpin’ this nigga since the K.Dot days. This nigga got a serious hit on his hands right here and the track is FIRE. I always wanted a T-Minus x Kendrick collab. This shit just a hit. Y’all hatin’ ass niggas need to shut the fuck up for once. Dude trynna sell an album and y’all bitch niggas talking bout ”commercial” nigga fuck you and yo momma if you finna hate on Kendrick moves. He trynna make a living and he is still staying true to his roots. Cartoon & Cereal, this and The Recipe are all great tracks. Props.

  149. The track is great to me, except for the fact that his verses total about 60 seconds, which is just OK. Other than that, the track (beat, chorus) are great and not much more “mainstream” than No Makeup, and this is a much better song than that.

  150. Not to be a stan but honesty Who can fuck with kendrick?
Its crazy how each project he grows.

  151. You really cannot hate on this guy. He delivers.

  152. pool full of liquor and you dive in it

  153. is there a for this video ? i think there should be one.

    and fuck yall. Hiii Power!

  154. He’s always had a commercial to feel to some of his material. Go give Michael Jordan a play and tell me it doesnt have that same mainstream feel. K . makes good music, plain and simple.

  155. This is fucking nice fuckers.

  156. most of y’all tripping. just dope music, learn to enjoyit

  157. Bout to get my drank on, one this ish is over!

  158. I cant stop listening to this song!!!!!!! Fuckin Fire….K.Dot is here!!!!!

  159. i dont like the derection kendrick might be going but ima go JET LIFE on this bitch and just.enjoy.this.shit

  160. Seems like some people think this is a pro-alcohol song. I thought it came off as anti-alcohol myself. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to this song, as long as they understand the message.

  161. Not everything on the radio is garbage! Niggas need to come out from under their rocks & appreciate all good music.
y’all say you’re true fans of music but with diss any artist instantly if they make a track that sounds “too popular”

  162. Judging by all the Kendrick hate in this post i think its safe to say he’s made it. On to the next up and coming artist folks who frequent blogs will build up only to later try and tear down after they reach a certain point

  163. Yeah I am convinced that most of your clown niggas a trolls. This track goes in, especially that second verse… good lawd. The album will be insane.

  164. 2048 Dopes To 58 Nopes. I think that speaks for it self. 58 people don’t understand High Power lol

  165. This song is fire. If you listen to the lyrics you’ll realize its not a mainstream song at all. I dont know why there is so much hate for Kendrick now. I remember last year when all of you guys loved every song he made. I guess thats just how it is on 2dopeboyz. An artist starts to get some shine and you niggas start to hate. I saw you do it to Drake. I saw you do it to Cole. And now your doing it to Kendrick. Its sad, but I guess thats just how the C-Section is.

  166. You Hipsters make me wanna kick a puppy.. Holy shit… “Oh my god, this is so mainstream..” Good Lord hipsters are such fags.

  167. @Master Lee fucking co-sign. Lets not forget these niggas also did it B.o.B, Big Sean, Wale, and Wiz.

  168. Yeah it may “sound” commercial meaning the beat and chorus and all but listen to his lyrics, it’s the same Kendrick from the OD project and section 80, I admit I didn’t like “the recipe” that much but this song is solid. Don’t count Kendrick out yet he’s still making good music.

  169. <- THIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  170. HE SHOULD GET DRAKE OR WAYNE ON THIS SONG… THEY’D BE THE PERFECT FIT FOR THIS SHIT AND WITH THEM IT COULD BE A RADIO HIT CAUSE ALL THE TEENY BOPPERS WOULD EAT IT UP

  171. COMEONSON, some of you act like Wale, Big Sean, B.o.B, Wiz, and J Cole didnt all give their core fans numerous reasons to feel differently about the kinda songs they did once they went mainstream. I really dont care if a MC goes commercial or pop or whatever because really that just means becoming (pop)ular but just make dope shit, thats really all it comes down to. If a song is really dope then people aint gotta defend it too much because the song will obviously be dope. Any real fan wants a good artist to get his shine but just dont start sounding wack and its cool.

  172. you guy realized there is more then 2,000 DOPES RIGHT??? THERE IS ONLY 64 NOPES….AND THEY ARE ALL TROLLS WHO ALREADY LEFT THEIR HATE COMMENT IN THIS C SECTION…..WHICH MEANS (DRUMS ROLLS PLEASE)

WHICH MEANS ONLY TROLLS ARE THE REAL HATERS THAT TROLL IN THE C SECTION TO GET RECONGNITION BUT FAIL TO REALIZE THAT EVERYONE ELSE LIKES THE SONG LOL!

WHY DO YOU GUYS EVEN BOTHER COMMENTING? THIS IS EMBARRASSING

LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL! LoL!

  173. Common- 6th Sense: If I dont like it, I dont like it, that dont mean that im hating…

  174. this shit is hard…. that kendrick album sounds promising so far… its crazy how this shit is radio material but at the same time it doesnt sound mainstream friendly (in this age) at all…. shit go hard

  175. the niggas that hating on this shit rii here… are the same niggas thats prolly lookin 4 something 2 hate…. its like if jay z was to drop reasonable doubt today… yall niggas would be the callin that shii wackk… yall niggas lookin 2 hard for a perfect song or somethin

  176. i know that people have different opinions but some of you dont understand how the world works.

this should have been his first single off of the project at the beginning of the summer. This shit will get some radio spin. I aint never heard kendrick on the radio over here on the east coast.

dude took an overdone concept, made it into a catchy song, that delivers a message. the fuck else do you people want?

dude needs to live. hes making art for ythe people to enjoy. if he can get more peopel to listen to his music, isnt that your fucking goal as an artist?

    gtfo lames.

  177. if u hate on TDE youre a legit retard

  178. Dope….

  179. The biggest problem I have with underground fans is that they hate on anything that SOUNDS mainstream, regardless of how dope the song is lyrically. It just shows how closed-minded they are musically.

  180. This doesn’t sound commercial. It has the same kind of sound as all of Kendrick’s popular work so far.

  181. the third verse – 1 minute 30 seconds, is sick, crossing between detroit horrorcore, Kendrick Lamar and his personality K-Dot

  182. The biggest problem I have with underground fans is that ALL 70 OF THEM ALREADY COMMENTED AND LEFT THEIR HATE COMMENTS ON HERE. CLEARLY THESE GUYS ARE NOT LEADERS, ENTREPRENEURS NOR RENAISSANCE MEN BUT COWARDS. I’m glad there are only a few of these trolls on here.

    Loo0o0o0o0o0o0o0L!

  183. @Marty McFly
B.o.B has been making pop-sound songs since he was underground. Niggas on 2dbz liked him then. Now that he is mainstream the main reason as to why people on 2bz dont like him is cuz he makes pop song.

Hate on Wiz makes sense since Rolling Papers was complete trash. Wale is iffy due to the fact that he is still a beast lyrically but he just changed his subject matter. Yet, people on 2bz say Wale’s trash lyrically while they were on his dick less that 2 years ago.

Big Seans subject matter is the same as always, it never changed, yet when he was underground, people on 2dbz loved that nigga. Now that he is mainstream, everybody says his trash.

    J. Coles subject matter is still the same as well.

The only person reasonable to hate on was Wiz. People on this site turn on rappers the moment they go mainstream.Thats the pattern of hipsters and the so-called ‘Hip-Hop Heads’ on this site.

  184. ^”people on 2DBZ” are not a monolithic society. Neither are “hip-hop heads”, “hipsters” or any other imaginary group that you want to come up with.

Just like you feel like it’s reasonable to hate Wiz Khalifa, there are people who disagree and believe he’s worthy of their respect. And those exact same people may feel like J. Cole or B.o.B has changed beyond the range that they are willing to accept. And this website, just like every other sector of free society, is made up of a network of people with a unique set of opinions.

Someone with such a fucked up sense of reason should really hesitate before dictating to other people which of their opinions are “reasonable”.

  185. @Sir Escobar, yes you gonna have people that just hate to see other people win cause thats just the case in life period with anything a person does but the reason some people turned on those artists is because they felt like they music became wack and it is what it is. Some people think J Coles singles and album was just wack shit period just like the albums and singles from Wale, B.o.B, Big Sean and Wiz. I dont care if an artist is labeled underground or commercial, if something is just not dope then its just not dope and sometimes thats just being honest and not hating. YES every artist alive will have some people that dont like them and YES every artist will have a decision to make whether to make they own lane and create their own sound thats true to the culture or if they just gonna follow behind whatever is popular on radio at the time, in which really both choices can but good depending on that artist but there will always be the split between dope music and wack music and sometimes dope artists make wack music. Thats just keeping it real. What Kendrick is gonna do idk thats up to him.

Dope intricate Lyrics, smashing concept & dumbed-down/catchy hook!<——-THIS…..The song is ok to me! It'll work for radio

  187. He is the Chosen One. Recognize…

  188. If you hate on a producer your corny. T-Minus is one of the best producers out there. He made great songs for Drake’s album Take Care. Dont forget he had the number one club song last year with I’m On One.

  189. did a nigga just say wally is a “beast lyrically?” hahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahhhahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaha

Thanks fam i needed that laugh its been a while.

  190. This is the same Kendrick of old. End of that discussion. But all in all I garuntee everybody who hates on it now won’t when it drops on his complete album. An album is not about having all of the same sounding songs, but rather about telling a story and I’m sure this fits into a story like every song on section 80 did or any other mix tape he made. You can’t tell me it’s mainstream just because of the beat -_____- name one person who spits from their sub conscious as often as Kendrick….. It’s okay I’ll wait. This is pure art from one of the greatest artist in the game.

  191. Heard this for the first time live at pitchfork and it sounded way better live.

  192. some of yall will never be happy. either they too underground or too mainstream. i for one would rather hear this on my radio than some YMCMB stuff. Good one K dot!

  193. This is a jam.

  194. lmfao why are people saying this is mainstream or commercial!? do you guys even listen to the lyrics? the beat isn’t even on some mainstream shit either! it sounds like a continuation of Section 80

  195. This song has radio and club appeal to it. It’s not bad at all, it works and its Kendrick doing something different and taking risks which all artists should aspire to do at one point during their careers. I can’t fault him for this as this song has an addictive quality to it that could make it one of the top summer tracks of 2012.

  196. People that fault the song for sounding pop haven’t really listened to what Kendrick’s saying. The fact that Kendrick is making a song with pop sensibilities about alcoholism shows how much clout he has as an artist.

But of course half of you niggas just go off how shit “sounds” instead of what’s being said so of course ya’ll gonna be like “this isn’t MY Kendrick; now white girls in their Audi can sing this song. Where will my credibility go then?”

  197. amen @fuckyoupayme, I’ve been guilty of what you said, but you are 100% on point
