Awhile back, I remember hearing the news about a collaboration album between Tha (Alkaho)liks & Beatnuts (Liknuts), and shortly thereafter, that seemed to fade into obscurity. That is, until this leaked this week, which got me to thinking about the Likwit Crew and their contributions to the West Coast sound. Originally started up by West Coast triple O.G. King Tee (who ultimately influenced Biggie’s baritone flow), the King later recruited a young Xzibit and Tash, J-Ro & producer E-Swift (Tha Alkaholiks) into the fold. Later, Defari & Lootpack would be incorporated into the concoction, adding more “hops” into West Coast Hip-Hop. These 30 tracks are by no means rare, with the exception of Phil Da Agony’s Net Weight; rather, this is a great example of the sound that was molded in the LA underground during the mid-to-late 90s.
