And just like that, my mood has gone back down the shitter.
“Beastie Boys” rapper MCA — real name Adam Yauch — has died.
In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.
So far, it’s not clear if the death is related to the rapper’s battle with cancer.
Russell Simmons’ website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.
Yauch co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, Mix Master Mike, and Ad Roc. The group has won multiple Grammys.
Yauch became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.
Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47. – TMZ
You can catch what was quite possibly Adam’s last televised performance on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 9 p.m. tomorrow (May 5th).

Just an awful disease that I hope in the very near future no longer steals lives. I personally watched my mother battle breast cancer and it’s brutal on a family. RIP Adam, you left your mark on the world.
Sad to hear about this. I still rank Paul’s Boutique as one of the 5 best assembled albums in Hip-Hop history. Completely changed the game with arrangement and sample chops. It’s basically a blueprint for my approach to mixtapes. I’ll be playing Mick Boogie’s tribute ti the Beastie Boys all weekend now. Rest in Peace MCA
One of the first non-Michael Jackson albums I owned was Licensed To Ill. RIP MCA.

If You Can Feel What I’m Feeling Then It’s A Musical Masterpiece
But If You Can Hear What I’m Dealing With Then That’s Cool At Least

“on the tough guy style I’m not too keen/to try to change the world I will plot & scheme” RIP to a legend
(fyi Mixmaster Mike wasn’t a founding member of the Beastie Boys)
Whether Black, Brown, White, Green or Yellow, the Hip Hop Community lost one of the most influential artists of MY lifetime. It was the Beastie Boys and Run DMC who started getting radio and Television spins, and while many will remember the Beastie’s for being the drunk young dudes who were looking to get high and get women, their music started to change with their age, and the message inside their music was beautiful. MCA will be missed, we can smile knowing he has touched the world up with his creative paintbrush…
Don’t forget what he said at the VMAs in 1998. On YouTube, search for “Beastie Boys – 1998 VMAS – Video Vanguard Award”. MCA’s comments start at 6:35. Heads will enjoy the clip (Chuck D. introduces them) but it’s what Adam says that I want to point out. Check it out and then share it. Peace.
RIP MCA you will be missed.
