No, it’s not a late April Fool’s joke. The homie FWMJ – you know, the guy who introduced the world to Jay Electronica and has done cover art for the likes of Foreign Exchange, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Ayah and more – was commissioned to do the artwork of Jay’s highly anticipated album circa 2009, prior to him being signed to Roc Nation. I’m not sure if this artwork will still live on when if the album drops, but at its very least it’s a glimpse into what the project would be. Check out more down bottom.

I don’t think it’s that he’s not dropping tracks consistently, it’s that they’re SO few and far between. If I’m remembering correctly, you can count on one hand the amount of full-length tracks he’s officially released in the past 3 years. As a fan, it’s kinda sad that you can listen to 3 years worth of the man’s work in the time it takes to cook a burger.

Why dont we just wait to hear the music first before saying Jay Electronica is either this or that because this type of album I believe not everybody is gonna understand. Alot of people will probably like it but not understand it and thats including myself cause he mite say some shit I dont even understand. The important thing is that you have a major label putting out a album that is full of what people call “underground music” and that really doesnt happen alot in hip hop, hardly ever really. Act 2 has been a long time coming but I think it’ll probably be worth the wait cause if the album goes well it could possibly be like hitting the reset button on hip hop music. Meaning people will appreciate lyrics and complex topics again, not just commercialized beats.

This artwork was completed in 2009, during the Decon days. Again, Jay was going to release Act II, for free, on Christmas day for the 3rd year in a row. Of course, that didn’t happen.
I showed a few people this stuff as I was working on it, as I’ve been doing artwork and pubbing music for Jay Electronica before many of you commenting on this “bullshit artwork” even knew who he was.
When Jay got signed to Roc, he told me I’d be doing the official artwork. He was signed November 2010? He and I haven’t spoken about the artwork since 3 days before the official signing party.
I’m 100% certain thish artwork will not be used for the album, as it was completed while at Decon.
