Now that MTV’s Hottest MCs in the Game list was fully revealed over the weekend, where do y’all stand with it? Just a brief glimpse at our c-section and I can already tell folks were never happy. Complaints about Rick Ross being #1; YMCMB taking 3 of the top 5 spots; Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, ____ and ____ being left out and so on. The question we’d like to know though… if y’all were given the chance to sit on the panel, who would you vote for? Top 10, in order, go…

i think a lot of people are confused on this list. this is just the hottest mc’s with the most popularity and buzz. not the most talented. its mtv for god sake.
(In No Specific Order….based on skill alone, not record sales. This is just my opinion, yall don’t get too butt hurt….this is just off the top of my head)
1. Phonte (my #1 overall, best rap “ARTIST” out)
2. eLZhi
3. Common
4. Kanye (non-luxury rap Ye)
5. Drake (non-moist ass Drake)
6. Rick Ro$$
7. Andre 3000 (when ever he pops up out of the blue)
8. Kendrick Lamar
9. Eminem (based on the definition of SKILL)
10. ANYONE OF THE RAPPERS BELOW COULD FALL INTO THIS SPOT
-NaS (LEGEND OBVIOUSLY – but hasnt been the same in years, tends to get boring)
-Jay Z (LEGEND OBVIOUSLY – but is NOT who he used to be in the skill department)
-Bun B (LEGEND OBVIOUSLY – will never go away. He will just be nice as long as he raps)
-Jeezy (fell off, was the realest nigga in the game a few years back, needs more relevant substance now a days)
-Big Sean (is real nice when he is on his real RAP SHIT)
-J. Cole (very talented OVERALL, but as an emcee…is ok, he had a great year though)
-Wale (is nice when he is not irritating with his vernacular)
-Wiz Khalifa (is just nice…stays in his lane. Even though he been mad soft lately, when he is on that “nigga shit” he gets busy)
-Meek Mill (mad nice for the newer generation of street rap)
-Yelawolf (Trunk Musik Yelawolf goes in)
-ASAP Rocky (even though he completely changed his style to the “Texas” rap, he is nice when he does it and he knows his rap history, making him credible)

Based on sales, general popularity and talent…I’m sorry but sales and popularity are a lot more important than quality when it comes to being HOT…if you think Kendrick Lamar is HOT right now then you’re just being ignorant. This isn’t dopest MC’s, its HOTTEST, H-O-T-T-E-S-T:
1. Kanye
2. Drake
3. Jay
4. Wiz
5. Wayne
6. Big Sean
7. Eminem
8. J. Cole
9. Wale
10. Meek Mill
Nicki isn’t a rapper so I didn’t consider her…the only hot verse she had this year was on Monster, and the rest of her popular songs are Brittney Spears level stuff + Moment 4 Life which people only listened to for Drake.
Wiz is #4 because he had 2 solo top 10 hits plus 2 top 10 hits with Snoop and T-Pain. He made the Forbes list in what was for all intents and purposes his freshman year. He’s also the only hot rapper who got no help from any other MC’s, Ye did his thing with Jay plus has G.O.O.D to help him out (Big Sean), theres YMCMB (Wayne, Drake, Nicki), MMG (Ross, Meek, Wale), Eminem has Slaughterhouse, Cole has Jay helping him out. And who does Wiz have helping him out? Chevy Woods? Wiz Khalifa is a fireball plain and simple…if he signed with MMG MTV would’ve had him top 5 no doubt. Wiz is an absolute fireball. He goes a few weeks without releasing a song and people act like he’s dropped off the face of the earth, meanwhile Ross gets the #1 spot without even dropping an album while Wiz dropped TWO plus a mixtape last year.
As far as leaving Rozay off the list…Ross himself isn’t hot at all, he just rides the coattails of other artists. No one listens to a track because Rick Ross is on it. I really don’t get how anyone could put Ross above guys like Drake and Wale, because those guys MURDER Ross on his own tracks, and they’re the ones that make him hot. Ross is the definition of quantity over quality, and he only gets buzz because he gets hot features. As much as you guys hate Rolling Papers, Wiz DIDN’T FEATURE A SINGLE BIG NAME MAINSTREAM RAPPER on that album and people still listened. If Rick Ross put out an album that didn’t have features from Drake or Kanye or other hot MC’s, no one would listen. Rick Ross is a businessman who knows how to achieve a perception of being hot, and MTV totally bought it.

Its funny cause you can read people’s list and see what kind of music they listen to. For the record, Drake is NOT a rapper. He’s a pop artist. Let’s be serious people. Any person that’s been listening to hip-hop for awhile knows this. I didn’t see anybody mention DOM KENNEDY!

doesnt even matter. hiphop is still in a recession. 2011 was terrible for the exception of WTT and common pretty much. hopefully 2012 can be better with a nas album, andre 3k album, kanye album, jay-z album, good music album, and some unexpect-eds.

@ SIrAnomaly: Drake IS a rapper. He is ALSO a singer. Which makes him an ARTIST. Yes he is a pop artist. But SO ARE Kanye, Jay-Z, Wiz, etc…? Pop music = POPULAR music. Do your homework fam. Go back to 2006…Drake IS a rapper. Drake was putting in plenty work on the underground circuit.
PS: I love how folk, be judging Drake off of his YMCMB shit. Drake used to be the nicest back before all this Young Money shit. And he still gives out quality bars. Like I said, do your homework fam.

I can’t stand the hipsters who put all underground mc’s who haven’t done anything and hardly anyone knows about just for the sake of being a hipster and how “mainstream” is the enemy.. An actual artist. Fuck these lists.
Honorable Mention: Action Bronson & Elzhi
I mean the list was pretty on point, the list listed the hottest (most popular/biggest names) mcs of 2011, How are you gonna argue that any of those didn’t have a “hot” year? I’d add Lamar though, definitely buzzin in 2011, & Krit, & Lil B. A lot of the artists I like (Cunninlynguists, Common, DAnny, Elzhi, Roots, 9th, Thurz, Tanya Morgan) had albums but the buzz died soon after. People don’t give a fuck a month after the album drops, idk why though, I’ll support & buzz em on twitter, tell some about em, but yea. Anyway, thats it.

I think we should create a top 10 for 2 dope boyz. Have a vote with the most mentioned artists in this c-box. And see what the votes come up with. I think it would look fairly similar to the mtv list minus Nicki cause we all know she sucks donkey cocks.

Thank you, it means a lot when I’m higher then Kendrick on your list…hes a dope MC too
Saigon – GSNT was dope
Evidence – if Cats n Dogs (AOTY-IMO) didnt get you excited for another Dilated album idk what will.
Big Sean – He did his thing last year
Kendrick – he cool
Lupe – F&L2 is coming, nuff said
There are others ill just leave off cause im not trying to name 20 different MCs but I gotta say that I can agree with Ross being the hottest right now. I kinda knew they were gonna pick him on the MTV list cause even though he puts out some songs that aint that lyrical, some of that shit does knock though like Holy Ghost, MMG Untouchable, Keys To The Crib and one of the dopest songs last year I Love My Bitches prod. by Just Blaze.

I’m leaving Jay, Em, Ye, and Weezy out cause they haven’t left the top 5 in like 10 years
1. Rick Ross (This man was EVERYWHERE this year)
2. Drake (not my favorite but numbers don’t lie)
3. Kendrick Lamar (he may not have put out a major label debut album but when he does the expectations are higher than any before him)
4. Big Sean
5. J Cole
6. Wale
7. Wiz Khalifa
(4-7 is very very interchangeable but they all broke into the mainstream strong this year)
7. Big K.R.I.T. (KRIT is gettin’ looks every where, whether it be his own songs, a feature, a hook, or another rappers on beats he made.
8. 2 Chaaaaaainz
9. Curren$y (started JLR, signed DZA and Mikey Rocks, and is steadily dropping music)
10. Andre 3K (set himself up nicely for 2012 with a slew of features towards the end of 2011, and probably added a few lambo’s at the same time, word to Killer Mike)
J. Cole should have been on the list. According to criteria and the appearance of another Best New Artist nominee, Jermaine should have been on the list.

since it is “HOTTEST” and not best or greatest…then Rozay is definitely #1. after that it could be Jay, Yeezy, Drake, or Minaj. the WTT Tour was beyond phenomenal, no other artist on MTVs list can perform half as good as Jay n Ye, so that made them both hold their ground last year. Big Sean is ahead of all the sophomores n rookies besides Drake n Minaj, because he had a record on the radio the whole year. FUCK Lil Wayne.

Where the FUCK is Earl Sweatshirt? His disappearance and return was more buzz than most of the people on the list had.
Twitter; @FuckJayson
It’s hilarious that you guys don’t know what the word “HOT” means. Yall are just simply listing your favorite artists, and nothing more. Kendrick Lamar is not hotter than anybody who made MTVs list. He sold, what, 6k albums? Not many people outside of the internet hip hop heads even know who he is yet, so how can he be the hottest? Most talented, maybe, hottest…no.
1. Black Thought (Best Album of the year with crazy lyrics)
2. Kendrick Lamar (Arguably the best album of the year, Everyone wants to work with him)
3. Common (Great album and dude has been dropping dope freestyles since doing what an MC is suppose to do… Rap.

@Marty McFluffin, you to can add your name to the list of homotrolls from FOCS news (fags on computers) that just want attention.
@IslandKid, I didnt argue with you about Jayz being the hottest on this list, I was saying in terms of being on a list about being “hot”, theres not need to even put Jay in that conversation cause he dont need to be “hot” anymore, neither does Kanye or Wayne or any MC thats been out for ten plus years.

PS- Does anybody actually realize it when they’ve become a “troll”? Cuz I see Trolls calling each other Trolls all the time on this site, which invariably leads to another e-fight over who’s more of a Troll, which typically leads to somebody getting his iFeelings hurt, stealing the other guys name, and Trolling some more.

@Ok computer, getting under my skin? Stop it cause all he did was make a fool of himself so you can instigate some more fuckery if you want but then that would just be the true definition of troll now wouldnt it?
I’d take J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar & Pusha T over Wale, Wiz & Big Sean. J.Cole had a top selling album, Kendrick might of had the album of the year & Pusha’s EP was crazy; not to mention he was on every other record that dropped in 2011 & killed every track.
WTF does MTV know about music anways!?
@Marty McFly

Watch The Throne had the most impact in hip hop this year. The hits from Take Care dominated the radio and still are. Rick Ross has grown his label and been prominent. Nicki Minaj had a platinum album and rose to mainstream popularity. She’s bordering on Icon status. Big Sean had a great year, Finally Famous the album made him a superstar . Wayne is Wayne , The Carter IV sold well but it failed as an album. J cole has a platinum song and Cole World was a classic debut. He received a grammy nod. Wale Had a number one rap album and number two overall album. I can’t listen to the rapper without hearing Lotus Flower, However his album was a disappointment. Meek Mill had hip hop big heads on his I’m a Boss remix and House Party is a club banger. Dream chasers is a good mixtape, showcases Mills talent. MMG had a good year. Section 80 is easily the most discussed underground project of 2011. Kendick’s career has flourished as well as his labelmates. Jeezy resurrected his career with TM103 and Asap Rocky is the poser child for the new era of a new york rap scene. I’m not a fan of some of this artist but facts are facts. I based my criteria around buzz and tried to be fair/balanced.

@Lil B, you have a one hot song every 200 song every nigga. LOL You made a thousand songs and Kreayshawn made more money off a single that she was just fucking around with then you made in your whole career of rapping fool. How the fuck you got all them youtube views but cant put out a decent album? Cause you wack as fuck and probably have the worst flow in the history of rap music. Yo could take any rapper in america, put em in the lab and have them freestyle and its a 90% chance that they’ll get more buzz of that then you will off a whole album and thats after the fact that everybody in the industry already knows you.
One hot song every 200 song AVERAGE nigga…
Correction, its a 90% chance you get more buzz but somebody else could freestyle a song and come up with something way better then your whole album.

k.dot is tha dopest. but hottest, mass media will choose that fat nigga ross all day. hes got ears for beats tho
Let’s See, YE n Jay as a group, Shady Records as a group, YMCMB, as a group, MMG as a group, and then divy out spots to indy artist who been doin work like A$AP, Newly Signed French, 2 Chainz, even though he’s Trash, Kendrick, Elzhi, Cole, Blu, etc… These nigga’s are recognizing people who need no recognition to the masses. They need to expose more artist, and strive to revive the idea of mainstream hip hop

The basis is simple – who made waves. My criteria is a combiination of record sales, buzz & MCing skills (in the calendar year). Lil Wayne went 3x platinum, so whether u agree with that or not, he was on fire. Drake dropped a dope album & put up the numbers. Rick Ross was pure gold this year, everything he touched was amazing. Kendrick Lamar had a breakout year and dropped a classic album (yes it is an album, sold on iTunes x there’s a physcal disc). J.Cole finally dropped his major label debut and went Gold, Big Sean ruled the early part of the year lest we all forget.
