Shakira Signs to Roc Nation

As odd as it might sound, XXL has revealed that the Colombian songstress has signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for management. Joining the likes of Rihanna, Wale, No I.D., Santigold, S1 and Melanie Fiona.

The news definitely marks a coup for Roc Nation. With worldwide appeal, Shakira has sold more than 60 million albums and won 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammy Awards.

And the real reason for this post? For me to express how annoyed I get when I think Deja Vu is about to play… only to get shot down with a Wyclef Jean intro. And I know I’m not alone on that one!

  2. that shit cray

  3. she can get it

  4. It’s a strategic signing, Young Money signed Christina Milian and Roc Nation signed Shakira.

  5. it’s only management lol and isn’t Wale also managed by Roc Nation?

  6. lol @ bjdask, its the rap cold war out here

  7. Is Jay Elec gone from the Roc???

  8. wale is with mmg.. j.cole is roc nation

  9. @bjdask did you seriously relate Shakira, an INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR with MULTIPLE GRAMMYS, MILLIONS OF RECORDS SOLD, HIGH GROSSING TOURS, ETC. to Christina Milian who has none of the above? And Wale is signed to MMG, managed by Roc Nation btw.

This is not as odd a signing as it seems. It’s a hell of a smart business move. Shakira sells out shows all over the world and still sells millions of records. Plus Roc Nation is not just a RAP label, but an all around entertainment company.

  10. BTW, only management still gets you about 15% of an artist gross income. Nothing to scoff at at all.

  11. Good Looks for the Roc Nation camp.

  12. I’m not sure what the point is…niggas dont care about the culture only the money

  13. Deja Vu is the joint classic

  14. Damn, this is a pretty big move. She runs shit in Spain.

  15. Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz took that same intro from another song: Amores Como El Nuestro by Jerry Rivera which is the original song that used it. Check it out.
