Kendrick Lamar – Section.80 = The definition of a classic album. I honestly believe Section.80 will replace Illmatic as the ultimate classic rap album. This had everything you can want in a rap album: lyrical tracks, bangers, and chill tracks. Its hard to choice standout tracks since every song in amazing. The standouts to me were: ADHD, Ronald Reagan Era, Spiteful Chant, Keisha’s Song, and Hii Power. 10/10
The Throne – Watch The Throne = This was exactly what everyone expected when we heard that Kanye West and Jay-Z will collaborate on an album. Great album, possible classic, only time will tell. Standout tracks: Niggas In Paris, That’s My Bitch, Who Gonna Stop Me, Murder To Excellence, and Illest MotherFucker Alive. 9.3/10
J. Cole – Cole World: The Sideline Story = An incredible debut album from Jermaine Cole. He really brought it here and no one should be surprised at all due to his incredible mixtapes the past few years. Standout Tracks: Can’t Get Enough, Mr. Nice Watch, Lost Ones, God’s Gift, and Breakdown. 8.9/10
Common – The Dreamer, The Believer = This is subject to change since I have only listened to it four times from start to finish, but I really think this is a great album. Common is known for his lyrics and they are present on this project. No ID killed it on the productions. Standouts: Ghetto Dreams, Blue Sky, So Sweet, Loving I Lost, and Celebrate. 8.8/10
Bad Meets Evil – Hell: The Sequel = Eminem and Royce Da 5’9 are two of the hardest MC’s in the game and they delivered on this album. Great album and it really proved how good Royce is considering he was on par with Marshall Mathers. Standouts: Fast Lane, The Reunion, I’m On Everything, Loud Noises and Echo. 8.5/10
Honorable Mentions – Drake’s Take Care (8.3, too much RnB for my liking), The Game’s RED (8.2, great frist half of the album, but the second half was weak), and Saigon’s Greatest Story Never Told (8.2, i initially thought this could be a classic, but it got washed up over time. Nevertheless, still a great debut from Saigon)

This is the ultimate stoner mixtape and easily my favorite mixtape of all time. Amazing production throughout the tape. Standouts: Peso, Bass, Brand New Guy, Purple Swag, Houston Old Head, Acid Drip, and Demons. 9.8/10
Big KRIT – Return of 4Eva = KRIT has so much potential and it is shown on this tape. 20+ songs on a mixtape and all were album quality. KRIT will be the King of the South in no time if he puts out more projects like this and KRIT Wuz Here. Standouts: R4 Theme Song, Dreamin’, King’s Blues, Free My Soul, and Country Shit Remix. 9.3/10
Omen – Afraid Of Heights = Omen stepped out of J. Cole’s shadow in this mixtape to me. Before this, he seemed like someone who J. Cole was just taking with him. He really proved himself here and he’s a name to take note of. His production skills are really impressive. Standouts: Window, Look Of Lust, Wow, Mama Told Me, and Ceremony. 8.2/10
Freddie Gibbs – Cold Day In Hell = Freddie Gibbs is the best gangsta rapper in the new school and may dethrone his boss (Jeezy) and the wannabe boss (Ross) as the best gangsta rapper in the game in the future. He reminds me of 2Pac with his gangsta lyrics and great story telling ability. Definitely someone to be on everyone’s radar in the future. Standouts: Rob Me A Nigga, Natural High, Neighborhood Hoez, and Sittin Low. 8.1/10
XV – Zero Heroes = XV is the hottest punchline rapper in the new school in my opinion. He showed off his punchlines on this project and also his improving word play. Standouts: When We’re Done, Smallville, Pictures On My Wall, Textbook Stuff, and All For Me. 7.9/10
Honorable Mentions: Asher Roth’s Pabst and Jazz (7.8, I still need a few more listens tho), Jon Connor’s Season 2 (7.7, good tape, but something is missing about him. Idk what), Mac Miller’s Best Day Ever (7.5, some of the best chill songs that came out this year, much better than Blue Slide Park imo)

The Throne – Niggas In Paris = Catchy song of the year. Its an absolute banger that can get a party started or get you pumped up for a basketball game. Amazing song
J. Cole – Lost Ones = Possible song of the year imo. Great concept, great lyrics, pure greatness all around about this song.
A$AP Rocky – Peso = Crazy song right here. Rocky only had this song and Purple Swag released when he got signed for 3 million. That’s how good those two songs were.
Lupe Fiasco – All Black Everything = An amazing introspective song right here. One of Lupe’s best songs of all time
Saigon – Oh Yeah (Our Babies) = The best song about the struggle of living in the ghetto of the year. So real its unbelievable. Pure genius

Comeback Rapper of the Year – Common = I have no idea what common was thinking with Universal Mind Control. It was a disaster. But The Dreamer, The Believer, more than made up for that. Really good album
Most Disappointing Rapper – Lil Wayne = Tha Carter IV was pure garbage. Absolutely horrible. A sorry excuse for an album. Weezy didn’t even have one good verse on the entire album. Beyond disappointing
Best Debut Album – Cole World: Sideline Story = Great album from Mr. Cole. Well done and flows well all the way thru
Best Album – Section.80 = Its just an amazing album and a definite classic. I have yet to see a negative review for it
Song of the Year – Ghetto Dreams = I know it wasn’t in my top 5, but this song is a classic. Nas and Common together are a major problem. There collab album will be a serious problem

He also released 2 albums, one of them only including members of HIS record label, which he also created this year. His production on every song he released this year is flawless, his flow is flawless, his lyrics are far above what he gets credit for, he is the best artist in the game at name dropping without starting beef, he can consistently throw double entendres at you and you won’t even realize it until you look up lyrics to the song, he gained a following from going on tour with wiz, and he smokes more weed than over 99% of all active artists rapping… You can’t match this mans work ethic, flow, or consistency with any artist that released anything this year or in years past for that matter because he is also one of the more veteran active rappers out right now
