If you want to be cool and buddy-buddy with your other fellow emcees, cool. Just be consistent and stop throwing subliminal shots in your music. But if you can dish it out, you should be able to take it. Don’t throw the rock and hide your hand, that’s a trick move. Just like K. Dot said in a recent interview, hip-hop is a sport and competition raises the bar for everyone. The problem is that most of these cats aren’t hip-hop, they’re pop and pop records fail as adequate responses to beef (please see Nicki Minaj, “Stupid Hoe”).
There’s nothing wrong with engaging competition and doing it wholeheartedly. We don’t actually believe you’re going to do what you say anyway (i.e. Lil’ Wayne capturing Beyonce’); we just want to be entertained by your wit and wordplay in defense of the throne you supposedly sit on.
