Wayne was already a multi platinum artist before his own solo album even dropped thanks to his features on other Cash money albums. Especially his feature on Drop it Like its Hot and the first Hotboys album. Jay had to start from zero with nothing, no label, no connections, no promotion, no nothing. You can give Wayne all the credit you want but the effect of his music on people in comparison to Jay is not even close. As an artist Jay has made better music as well as beat Wayne in stats. Jay did not come in the game off a platinum single about bitches dropping like its hot and his biggest record is not some bullshit called Lollipop. Jay built his brand off real hip hop.

In 16 albums he has 1 classic album that no one can even argue (Reasonable Doubt, in my personal top 10), and two albums that you can debate if they´re classic (Black Album & Blueprint). Vol 1 was average. Vol 2 was average. Vol 3 was average. The Dynasty was average. Blueprint 2 was average. Kingdom Come was average. American Gangster was part good but mostly average. Blueprint 3 was average (some might say whack). I have never wanted to listen to the R. Kelly collab albums nor the Linkin Park collab album so I´m not gonna judge on that. Watch The Throne was dope, a classic even if you shaved of about half the album and kept the songs that were actually dope instead of having average crap like Lift Off and shit like that.
You can say w/e you want but with his 16 albums, only 4 have been better than average. That´s not consistency. And Jigga has made tons of whack ass songs, while a rapper like Biggie only made like two (Playa Hater & Nasty Boy and I honestly think he made those as a joke, especially Playa Hater) whack songs in his whole (short-lived) career.

Well I guess that’s were we differ. I base great emcees by their lyrical capabilities. I could give a flying fuck about sales and all that since mainstream success doesn’t constitute being a true master of the ceremony.
Hip Hop, unless you’ve forgotten, is about words (lyrics) as opposed to actions (records sold). Normally actions speak louder than words but Hip Hop is about displaying your inner most on the outside. Lyrics is what makes a great artist if you ask me especially when there’s no room for creativity in these major record labels and the radio. I don’t blame them though, supply and demand. The shit you hear on the radio is what the people or the masses want.
Fuck #1 singles, platinum/diamond albums, awards, endorsements and all that. I said it in a previous post and I’ll say it again, financially Jay is greater but LYRICALLY (artistically) Nas is the victor.
Both Nas and Ems last four albums have to beat in WTT, BP3, American Gangster and Kingdom Come in most categories including lyrical and musical ability because the last 5 years is the most up to date material that even makes them comparable. Then they have to have better all around classic material then RD, In My LifeTime, BP1, and The Black album and then they have to double their amount of commercial material just to evenly compete artistically. Sales is one category and skills is one category, there are others because we talking over more then a decade and a half of songs to compare. Then they also have to be way more consistent so COMEONSON. Jayz has done too much so you would have to completely leave him in the dust in more then half of all the categories he competes in and thats not gonna happen.
