Per usual, these things are just debates and opinions, and should be taken as such. Like, you guys really tend to take what some of what’s said in these visuals to heart, and it’s not like we’ve all never had similar conversations with our own respective friends before. So, just take it for what it is.
Wale saw a huge increase in album sales after signing with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group. On Interscope Wale’s first album Attention Deficit sold 30k in its first week, fast forward 2 years and his Ambition album sells 164k first week and charts at Number 1 [Ed. note: No. 1 on the Hip-Hop R&B Charts in its first week]. Can this success be attributed to his affiliation with Rick Ross? The Friday Hip Hop Report crew discuss.

why does that girl with the huge bags under her eyes always cover half her face with her hair

Wale turned into a turd sandwich ever since he signed with MMG. He is trying to sound like Fat Ross.

Is it me or does Wale sound like Wiz.
I heard the song with him and the kid Miguel.
I swore that was Wiz. Not a good look.

its obvious dese niggaz neva listened to wale ta say dat he sounds better now is blasphemy dey musta neva heard 100 miles n mixtape about nothing..i guess ta dem selling records makes somthing a good album shyt attention deficit is betta n more conscious den ambition..i mean it took illmatic wat 10 years ta go platinum..quality will always outweigh numbas…

The thing I like about Wale is that he really didn’t switch up his style. A lot of people said he changed since signing to MMG but he been making the same type of songs since Paint a Picture. He’s never really boxed himself into one kind of an artist.

attention deficit was a way better album, but his first seinfeld mixtape will always be the best work he ever put out, i got no respect left for this guy, i understand why hes making the moves hes making though, its hard to make it in the industry you need to be signed to a label like fatty’s so put out an album now days, especially after his last one did so badly

^More About Nothing is still his best body of work but Ambition is 2nd imo. Attention Deficit just wasn’t a good album imo & i wasn’t surprised it flopped.

also fast forward two years where wale has had the chance to gain more fans and exposure. two years is a lot of time to get one hunnied k more people with you if you really down to hustle like wale does.

wale is rubbish and just like the drake/lil wayne scenario. if rick ross didn’t put him on he would’ve faded into obscurity like all the other microwave internet bullshit.. hip hop sucks right now

man these guys hate so much. so much negative energy. who cares if wale got nmber 1 because of rick ross. guy put in his work. did his business properly and did it. these guys should be inspired by his “comeback”. got nothing but respect for wale.

There are lots of things to point at for the reason Wale got a big sales for his second album, mostly it’s how he re-tooled himself from his first album…
- When Attention: Deficit came out, Wale kinda lost his ground a bit, he was on a major high with the Mixtape About Nothing, than with the wait, then releasing a sub-par 9th Wonder mixtape, and then another wait, he lost his fire
- He strengthened his fanbase, people started to come back to him after the stink of his first album came off
- The Hip Hop game kinda of changed in his favor as everyone is banging all these “Cool Boy rapper with a flow, swag, and lyrics to top it all off” like J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and Big Sean, even Drake and Kendrick Lamar too!
- Rick Ross and that Lex Lugar sound gave him commercial appeal or at least commercial appeal while still having a street sound (the No Hands song was the first time Wale cracked in
- There was success in the Self Made, Vol. 1 album and gave us a hint on the new Wale sound, which the mass liked
- We new the expectations for Wale too now, his first album had a vague feeling on how it would sound like
- And probably the most important reason, other than him regaining his momentum… Ambition was more focused and sounds better

These dumb fucks state the obvious…. Marketing 101….. Wale is smart he knew what he was doing. Of course Rick Ross helped brand Wale and make him a little more well known.

Ross provided a huge spark for Wale, but I honestly feel like Wale’s success is because of how hard he grinded, and Ross always kept the support around. Rick Ross always put dude at the forefront, and Wale worked his ass off to keep himself at the forefront. If anybody follows Wale on twitter they know, at some point dude was droppin so much free music and freestyles that I couldn’t even keep up. Happy for dude, and hopes he keeps it going. And please stop with the “He changed his sound/ he sold out” crap. Wale never had one particular sound, Rick Ross just gave him a couple more gritty, down south beats to work with (Wale sounds good on em too)

@Ahkidagreat: They weren’t shitting kn Cole, dumbass. When they made that video, Cole was dropping unreleased songs every other day with no album release date in sight & Jay-Z still wasn’t promoting Cole like he should’ve. Let’s not forget that when they made that video he had just dropped “Work Out” which according to the 2DBZ c-section was the “worst song he ever put out.”. Jas even said that Cole didn’t even trip over that video so they never felt the need to do a follow up video.
