Continuing his quest to provide 1 billion meals to children in need (by copping the Street King energy drink right here), Curtis has decided to step it up a notch this week. For the next 2 days, every “Like” on Facebook will also equal a meal for a hungry child. And if the page reaches 1 million, Fif will double the donation.

I feel his points and do agree on some level, but I’m hesitant about this because…
1. I don’t understand what organization he’s working through or how these meals are going to be given out. And if they eat today, will they be able to eat tomorrow? What country or town is he focusing on? One meal to whom, where? The vagueness of this seems strange. After Haiti, a few tsunamis, and other world disasters and how jaded people are by some of those orgs, people may feel tapped out.
2. Whether or not we push the like button or purchase his product, is he not already giving out food to these people?
3. Why is his focus so narrow by doing web videos and reaching through blogs? Where are the commercials and billboards? To get a million people in a week did he really expect such a narrow way would do that? It doesn’t even seem like these videos have more than 5-6k hits alone.
While 50 may have a great idea the fact that it’s tied to me liking a page, which I’m sure they are using to carry into advertising into the product, bothers me. If he wants to give, then I’m down. He has money on his own to do that. If he wants mine, just ask for it, not a Facebook like.

@merc80 Real talk. I know personally at my work most of us donate to the United Way. I’ve been donating $1 every week this year. When I almost got evicted I called United Way who provides rental asst. in my area. They told me I don’t qualify so I stopped that donation.

I think everyone has an artist where they see that artists music and they automatically start to hate but for allot of people that artist is 50 cent. This is not a criticism on 50 cent, but a criticism about charities in general. First of all I think what 50 Cent is doing is nothing but great. But charities that feed the poor need to focus on the real problem of why they are poor. You see if you are giving 1 million starving children food they will eventually run out of food and go back to starving. You have to find out exactly why they are starving and try to understand and solve their problems, instead of throwing money at them for temporary comfort. The children will be a little bit better, but in the end they will still be in the same situation which produced them.
To reiterate my point, this isn’t a criticism of 50, but of charities in general. There is no negativity toward 50, I applaud his efforts, and wish him success in what he is trying to accomplish.
