I used to think that Cole was boring too, before I listened to FNL. That changed my perspective and got me to be a fan.
If you come into this album with NO expectations, NO drawing into of the hype, and NO preconceived notions, it will sound like a solid album. A classic, that’s hard to tell as of now. But it is really a good album production wise (Cole has stepped it up, lyrically, content wise) and is one of the best mainstream Hip Hop debuts in a while…

No, not at all; I’m saying that for all intents and purposes, I’m On One might as well have been Drake’s song, so effectively he does have 2 singles already outperforming Lupe. If we consider the fact that “She Will” was originally his song, he’s got 3. Music ownership is, after all, an imaginary line.
He’s also released or been featured on 6 songs so far this year that have reached the top 100, as opposed to Lupe’s 3. He hasn’t even dropped the album yet, and he’s clearly outperformed Lupe overall. He’s given himself the enormous advantage of NOT alienating half his fanbase by acting like an idiot every time he gets near an interview, so NO, I’d say Drake has pretty much owned Lupe all year already, and he hasn’t even fully entered the race yet.

NO I did NOT bring Drake into this in comparison to Lupe, I said they are NOT competing AFTER he was brought up by someone else first. 2nd you said Pink was more lyrical then Lupe and that in itself shows that your a complete idiot because we talking hip hop. Then you brought up Andre 3k well I still feel like he isnt competing with Lupe either because he has not been active during Lupes whole career other then a couple of verses a year while Lupe is dropping albums. I mean everything included, album sales, single sales, radio and Tv performance and total number of songs that have remained hot on all platforms of hip hop. Lupe is not trying to be the most popular thats why he headlines his own tours that he puts together himself. If he wanted to be the most popular he would go on tour with Jayz and Ross and Drake and Wayne. Did Cole World sell more with album sales with/ and without singles combined? If so cool but if not then it is what it is

Lasers performance overall and its up to you if you wanna debate the musicality of it but I suggest you dont because lyrically, musically, subject matter and hooks pound for pound have out done your favorite rapper. As for WTT you can debate it if you want and ill challenge it just for sport but technically thats a group vs a solo artist.

I just looked this up: Sideline Story’s current sales are at 305, 000 and it has a metacritic rating of 74/100. Lasers is at 452, 000 in sales (But its been out for 7 months and Sideline Story’s been out for 3 weeks) and has a metacritic rating of 57/100. Does Cole win this one against Lupe yet? I’m sure you’ll say Lupe is better bar for bar lyrically, and I’ll respond with “where Lupe wins lyrically, Cole more than makes up for with overall music quality” and then you’ll probably ignore it and focus on a less important point or say the critics opinions don’t matter and only yours does.

But the thing is Pauly you have never not even ONE time ever proved me wrong about anything ever in your life as Paula Dee. @Chicago put some things are outta my control so that fact Lupes album came out in march and Coles just came out is not my fault because Cole also had 3x times as much buzz and support as Lupe even before march. You dont win in your argument in sales or lyrically or in musical quality because the beats Lupe has choose to use this year are far more complex then Coles. Cole tried to pull off a more commercial sound, Lupe succeeded at it with a whole album that crossed over nicely but he still stayed true to his self lyrically for most of the album.

Oh i wasn’t trying to argue if Cole was hotter than Lupe, I agree with you that Lupe had a big year, bigger than most rappers. But i’m arguing with how you think it’s a fact that J. Cole is a below average rapper even though he’s on pace to outsell Lupe by a big margin and his album had a much better critical reception than Lasers. So I don’t know what other arguments you can make for Lupe being better than Cole overall beside Cole’s failed single and Lupe being lyrical. To sum up, Yes, Lupe was hotter than most rappers this year but i’m arguing that you think it’s a fact that Cole is sub par even though his album was both high selling and critically acclaimed. And Lupe’s album will probably be outsold by Cole and wasn’t critically acclaimed. I don’t know how much of a better argument I can make.

Regardless of anything Cole does, right now at this moment in time Lupe is one of the hottest artists in hip hop and that is just the truth. When Cole has beat Lupe then come back and say that but sadly the year will be over by then and for the majority of it Lupe was doing more and heard more. If Cole has a good 3 months of the year that does not take away Lupe whole good year from the time his first single came out till now. As far as Cole being the better artist? All I can say is Cole just made it outta the mixtape game with first major album, Lupe is starting up the promo for his 4th major album at this point so again you lose that argument too because when Cole was still dropping free download mixtapes Lupe has high selling singles already off his first two major albums. So lupe is not just winning in one category hes the better artist all the way around the board. If its because he came out before Cole thats not my fault and if this year he put out his album way before Cole that also not my problem. He has been giving his fanbase dope music for the last 5 years and also influenced the game in another direction because when Lupe came in, 50, Game, Kanye and Jeezy and Dipset were influencing the sound. Lupe brought another perspective not only with his albums but with his singles. Work Out is not a new concept and neither is Cant Get Enough but Kick Push, Daydreamin, Dumb It Down, Paris Toyko, Hip Hop Saved My Life and Superstar are not what everybody else was doing and not the the kind of singles Cole has dropped. Now you keep talking about sales but I dont know why cause you lost that argument already. Lupe is a better artist than Cole all day. Cole don’t have no singles that get requested or even hear on the radio like that. Lupe had good singles since his first commercial album. Lupe has made songs that people know and will sing along when they hear it. Cole can’t make good sell out records so I don’t see any future is his frontin. Speaking of which have you heard the verses Cole spits on all the r&b songs he is on? He sucks ass, It’s crazy how yall say he the future when even the present ain’t feeling him. I’m stuck does he want to be kanye, big sean, or another average joe?
I wish niggas in the south would stop acting like they know what everyone is listening too in the south because it’s way too big to know whats folks are bumping down there. The south has plenty of hip hop heads that support good music and if you think Lupe don’t have fans down there you are nuts. I live in Oakland, CA and hear Lupe everyday on the radio, I just recently started hearing Cole and guess what the little kids don’t request COle they request the pop r&b songs he is on.

This is weak from start to finish. Why would any rapper want to hop on this track. I don’t know if I was expecting better from J. Cole or what, but this is weak, candy-ass shit.

I live in ATL & Macon, GA and trust me ppl in the south bump Lupe, point blank Cole and Lupe are both dope artists, no arguing there. I do think them kinda dumbed down their styles tho, when both really had the power to not do it.
