I think he’s a very good MC, top 5. But people call him GOAT, which he is definitely not. He is being surpassed by up and coming rappers very quickly, and doesn’t really put any emotion in his music anymore. Nas put out one classic album in 94 and still gets praised as GOAT. I believe that’s overrated.

I forgot Nas dropped another classic in 02 with Lost Tapes and @masterdebator you can take every other classic albums 10 best tracks and make a album out of that and they still wouldnt be better than Illmatic and you have to be biased to say Chronic is better than Illmatic..maybe production wise but lyrically its nowhere near touching Illmatic

I’m saying top 5 of all time. I don’t particularly listen to his music regulary, it’s hard to do when he put no heart into it anymore. I’d much rather listen to Kendrick Lamar or J. Cole right now than Nas. Just my humble opinion.

Nas can rap circles around Kendrick and J. Cole with his mouth closed, only thing Kendrick and Cole got over Nas is that they are more relateable but they still arent on his level especially lyrically..songs like “Rewind” and “NY State of Mind” are more lyrical than any Cole or Kendrick song combined

Ah, I see where you’re coming from. Yeah the praise he gets for having his name up as one of the G.O.A.T is due to Illmatic in addition to the rest of his discography. Also, the fact that many respectable MCs such as Talib Kweli, Eminem, J.Cole, Electronica, and Lupe. Personally, I don’t think he’s being surpassed by up and coming rappers-if he was I’m pretty sure people won’t have him in their top 5 let alone, their top 3 MCs of all time.

Somebody needs to smack Shades of Reality for saying tracks on Cole World are better than Ny State of Mind..that song alone has atleast 5 classic quotables in each verse, none of those Cole tracks have memorable quotes and even Lupe knows hes not better than Nas and I think he’s the closest to him in lyricism, he even modeled Food & Liquor after “It Was Written”..Nas “Deja Vu” more lyrical than anything Cole’s ever spit, Cole doesnt even have any thought provoking rhymes he’s just some1 you can relate to..and “Rewind” and “I Gave You Power” are creative storytelling, something Nas and Lupe are way better than Cole at doing..stop overrating Cole, its just going to lead to more haters and make Cole fans look bad
