I’d rather the label head let the artist stand on their own 2. That way if for whatever reason we end up parting ways all the support doesn’t necessarily dry up. They are YOUR fans not Hov stans that ride with you off the co-sign. How many labels would let you cook for 2 years? No less make you cook for 2 years getting your stage presence and industry savvy together instead of just cashing in off the single and sending you packing. Or when the singles don’t catch on still rock with you? It’s a no win. Hov have him in every video on every tour “he’s over hyped it’s just the Jay cosign.” Jay let him stand on his own two but give him advice “Man Hov going to drop him cause he not really fucking with him like that, he’s shelved it’s done.” Cole got tour money and got himself together BEFORE his album dropped.
Drake legitimized YMCMB as a separate entity from Cash Money. They made sure to have him on EVERY record. Folks were almost burned out by the time the album dropped. But stories like Drake don’t happen that often. It hadn’t happened since 50 before that. And honestly Marshall and Dre largely played the back and let G-Unit rock and just showed up in the first video and collabos.
I’m rolling with Suge on this one. Don’t need Hov “All in the videos” dancing across stage. It was a welcome change.
