J. Cole Debuts #1 On Billboard

While the final numbers won’t be up til tomorrow, HitsDailyDouble got the jump on Cole’s sales. 217k! And while the official sales might waver +/- a few thousand, it’s a sure bet that Cole World: The Sideline Story has taken the top spot. UPDATE: Turns out the number is concrete as Cole soled a total of 217,825 records (93k digitally and 124k in stores).

    *Birdman Handrub*

  2. nipsey hussle shits on this nigga

  3. Wasn’t on J.Cole before but Cole World made me download all his mixtapes.

  4. yaaaaa, nice to see all that hard work is paying off.

  5. those are the final numbers. 217k, there is no tommorow lol. nippsey hussle is underatted. he’s been underground for few years now.

  6. People bought his whack excuse for an album?

  7. I DONT LIKE J.COLE BUT THIS IS GOOD LOOK FOR HIPHOP HE HAS PROVEN YOU CAN DO GOOD WITH OUT A BIG HIT ON THE RAIDO OR SOME YOUNG MONEY TYPE GIMMICK hope artist see this and start staying true to them selves

  8. A lyrical artist at the top of charts? Come on guys, no need to hate. Good day for hiphop.

  9. No Big single? No problem !

    Cole is fucking WINNING

  10. Congrats to Cole. Got to meet the dude last Thursday and got my CD signed. Got lucky when Best Buy filled the shelves back up Wednesday.

  11. NYC/BROOKLYN is dead.
Gonna see Cole live in December … Can’t fuckin wait.

  12. Nice! +1 for the underdog

  13. shake you my nigga bruh but i gotta son you when you step outta line

  14. trey songz did 240k on his last album… nice

  15. drake will have album of the year followed by section80

  16. whack excuse of a rapper. this really disappoints me. this is not hip-hop. fuckin sell out

  17. ^^^^^^^^I was just about to say how long it takes for people to start calling him a sellout. smh you fans i tell you

  18. Why’s he a sellout? Because his record sold out?

For fuck’s sake, it’s not like has has some big stupid single on Sideline Story, shit, he even took “Work Out” off the main tracklist, it’s vintage J. Cole.

Just be happy for hip-hop, assholes.

  19. @based

Kill ya self nigga.. like seriously.. blow your brains out homie. Sell out? FOH with that son.

  20. wheres club 10 by kendrick lamar?

  21. @The Kid. but you dont understand. If you make music that the majority likes, your a sell out. Those are the rules.

n I use to not like Workout, till I played it in the car with 4 fine chicks in the car. Trust me that song knocks at the right time

  22. Congrats to Cole! Everyone wants to see the underdog win and Cole is the definition of that. For the last 2 years people have said nobody would buy his album and even said his album will never even come out. Cole is an inspiration to anyone who has a dream or a goal of making something of themselves. He came from a rough enviorment, was an honors student in high school, graduated college, and now has a #1 album. #inspiring

  23. I wish you niggas would stop saying “It’s a good look for hip-hop”. It’s not, It’s a good look for himself/herself who ever the artist is. The hip-hop I know hasn’t had any good looks in a long time. J Cole is not gonna do anything for the culture nor will he be considered a great. I amazes me how ya’ll diss wayne and drake but they have better verses than J Cole and I hate YM/CM. Nutten specual about J Cole at all, every song he talking bout a groupie bitch and his lines aren’t even clever. I understand the younger generation grew up on ebonics but how dare you say he is the next Nas. Nas use to write shit that made you go look the word up because you didn’t know the definition. What are you niggas getting from Cole. This nigga lyrics are very similar to big sean and a few other lazy writers out there. I will say this though, Cole had some nice beats on his cd but his flow and lyrics are bogus boooy.

  24. Nigga hating already? This is why we can’t have good hip-hop. Congrats to Cole! Hope more rappers step up like him. Whether you like him or not, this is a good day for Hip-Hop

  25. Haters eat a dick.. this boy did it! Cole World!

  26. Congrats to Cole. This is a Win for Cole but if he is still doing 10-20 2 months from now, that’s the real win in these times.

  27. @Mr. Wow

You just said Drake/Wayne have better lyrics than Cole. Comment ignored. The Warm Up shits on anything Wayne/Drake have ever done.

  28. NEWS FUCKING FLASH, its not 1994 or 1998, its 2011. Stop expecting, Cole, Sean, Wiz, Drake, or whoever else to sound like Nas or say “words you have to go look in the dictionary to find out what it means” As if thats what makes a great rapper. lol. Stop it

  29. When it comes to classics the year doesn’t matter my friend. And yes wayne has better lyrics and delivery than J Cole. J Cole does not shit on everything wayne has done. You sound hella stupid even saying that. I have way more respect for wayne because he came from some dumb shit and flipped his steez and yes he is a good writer. If J Cole so good why underground cats like myself ain’t feeling him? Their are some artist you can’t deny and J Cole is not one of them. Sorry,

  30. @ Mr. Wow…. you have no clue what the fuck you are talking about…. is lyrics are far far far from normal,, half the shit he says you have no clue what’s he’s talking about, his mixtapes are way better then the album so don’t judge the next 2pac based on his debut album

  31. I’m a huge cole fan and im surprised but glad for the dude. no big single on radio? still made it big. congrats on a solid album and good sales. it can be done. now where the hell is donnis?

  32. yes yes yes!

THIS IS FOR ALL MY FANS THAT WAITED, THE BITCH NIGGAS THAT HATED…..

    LMAO

  33. Nas opening up shows for my nigga cudi.Aint nobody checking for nas lol.As far as j cole i bought the album but i still dont like the nigga. His music is a cure for insomnia i swear thats what he shouldve named that shit.

  34. lol @ that guy who used to go to every single J. Cole post and talk mad shit, talkin bout how Cole’s never gonna sell and his albums gonna flop. I bet he’s that “Who Cares” dude. LMFAO

  35. @ Mr. Wow…. you have no clue what the fuck you are talking about…. is lyrics are far far far from normal,, half the shit he says you have no clue what’s he’s talking about

Yea like “you can’t outsmart me, I let u feel like u da $h!t, but you can’t outfart me” ?

  36. ehh i want to see the itunes results its 2011
jcoles slash wasnt nearly as big as young jeezys debut 101
i dont care wat a magazine says what is number 1
no one listenin to this weeks after…..splash came and gone
even his fans not as much fans anymore
lupe , bob, cole, another one bites the dust……
    =======================

  37. Mr. Wow you talk about hip hop but when hip hop was IN back then no one got judged for their music everyone music was different & had hardwork put into it if you listen to Sideline Story & said it wasnt Hip hop youre terribly wrong

GIVE RESPECT WHERE ITS DUE IT IS A GOOD LOOK FOR HIPHOP BECAUSE HE WAS HISELF & SOLD ALL THAT & WAS #1

  38. @ladi, obviosuly you have never heard of the drought 2, room for improvement, comeback season. SO FAR GONE shits on anything cole has ever put out in his career.

  39. You niggas really amaze me. I’m not knocking his hustle, Do you!!! But I don’t have to like it if it’s not cut from the same cloth as I was raised with. You nigga’s like koolade a lil to much. I bet most of you talking ish thought Soul Jah Boy was the ish when he dropped, uh?

By the way who cares what the older rap greats are doing now. They are eating regardless if they getting paid performing classics on tour opening up for a new cat or not. Don’t forget royalties from the radio. Every hip hop station got a flashback hour or hours where you here the old ish, right? The question is 15-20 years from now will J Coles records pop up on the radio? I doubt it, it ain’t even getting heavy spins now.

  40. @mr. Wow stfu and join ihatejcole.com i hear they need new members since 9.27.11

Hip hop back (rick ross voice)
Watch wale murder shit on his next ablum
And dont hate on drake. Hes mad talented.
    Respect good music

I never said J COle wasn’t Hip-Hop. Where did I say that? He is Hip-Hop, I just don’t really care for his Hip-Hop. Most the main stream ish is garbage. I can listen to wayne though. He can write songs.

  42. @mr. wow. you speak the truth man. cole is not legendary nor hip hop. hes out for him. hes get his 15 mins of fame but he isnt no great who will live throughout hip hop at someone to remember. i even deleted his trash out of my itunes

  43. @Mr Wow

Ok man people get it, im not the biggest J Cole fan either but he got his numbers up and thats cool with me. You saying all this shit about how J Cole sold out but then praise Wayne like you singing along to How To Love and then act like C4 is great song writing skills. NO Wayne is weak now and his last album is 90% garbage rap.

  44. J.Cole is better than Lil Wayne RIGHT NOW. J.Cole’s made 3 mixtapes and 1 studio album, and its way better than anything that Lil Wayne has put out since the Carter 3. Yeah, I admit…Lil Wayne has punchlines, and he can rhyme but they nothing special…J.Cole proved that when he released the b-side track “Disgusting” he showed that he could rhyme like Wayne and do it EVEN better than him. J.Cole is lyrical…better than Nas? Probably not…if anybody is close to being Nas its probably Kendrick Lamar but at the same time its too soon to tell. For all yall cats sayin that his album sucked and that it was a dissappointment is wack, a MIXTAPE is DIFFERENT from a STUDIO ALBUM. You gotta understand that Hip-Hop is evolving…things that were considered Hip-Hop back in the 90s is different from what Hip-Hop is now in 2011. But good thing we got rappers like J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar bringing back some true hip hop to this generation. And saying that Drakes better? You can’t compare Drake and J.Cole…they two different rappers. They both good in different ways. Saying that J.Cole’s the next pac tho?…Nahhh i wouldnt go that far now.

  45. Please read what I said not what others posted I said. lol. Look at all these rumors. Read before you post anything.

  46. Been a while since i commented on anything posted on 2dbz. Well, congrats to mr. cole on the success hes having w/ this album thus far. Me personally, its not a classic record but its a good 1st album. Maybe he’ll have a definitive classic the next album but like i said, congrats. BTW, where is NYC brooklyn at??

i’m actually interested to see if he still thinks j. cole papoosed himself (SOMEHOW) so i can get a good laugh out of reading the bullshit

  47. Haters (SMH at having to use a very dated word), doubters, whatever you wanna call them; first said Cole’s album sucked after hearing all the singles without hearing it in the context of the album.

Then, they heard the album and realised it’s actually pretty good even if they won’t admit it. (Metacritic: solid 74 rating, good-very good)

They said dude won’t drop an album let alone sell. – Not only did he drop, but he made #1 with no real single. (yes he made attempts at doing a single).

And now after the album is out and Work Out being deemed kind-of as a failure. It’s gaining spins on the radio and rising on the charts reaching new peaks daily. – This will continue to reach listeners and keep album sales going with Can’t get enough/Never told, whatever the new single is gonna be, yet to be released to radio.

This was all done with no major TV apps too. Promotion was there but there was no blow out budget.

In what context is this not “winning”

  48. NYC/BROOKLYN always says J. Cole Papoosed himself…. did Papoose sell 217k albums???

  49. great for Cole.

  50. Mr. Wow – comotherfuckinsigned

i dont mind that this dude is making money. i dont care if lil wayne or soulja boy are making money. ITS GOOD WHEN ANYONE MAKES MONEY AND GETS SALES. my critique of this guy has never had anything to do with success. its always been that, unlike the majority of the users here, ive never really seen anything special in his songs. as a rapper, i dont think hell have much longevity, because i think his style, delivery, flow, etc are just kinda boring and fall flat. its not hate, and you can call it doubting if you want, but this guy sits comfortably between not as appealing to female demographics as drake and not lyrically skilled enough to be hailed the way a guy like kendrick lamar is.

  51. I THINK ITS SAFE TO SAY WE OUTTA HEREEEE!

  52. i THINK ITS SAFE TO SAY WE OUTTA HERE!

  53. Yo anyone who thinks Tha Carter 4 is better than Cole World is fucking retarded son. At this moment, J. cole is obviously better than Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne just did a collab with Joe Jonas. Nuff said.
Also, this dumb ass nigga Mr. Wow clearly hasn’t taken the time to listen to The Warm Up. The Warm Up has better, harder lyrics than WAYNE HAS EVER HAD. real talk

The Warm Up has better, harder lyrics than WAYNE HAS EVER HAD. period

  55. Yo anyone who thinks Tha Carter 4 is better than Cole World is fucking retarded son. At this moment, J. cole is obviously better than Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne just did a collab with Joe Jonas. Nuff said.
Also, this dumbass Mr. Wow clearly hasn’t taken the time to listen to The Warm Up. The Warm Up has better, harder lyrics than WAYNE HAS EVER HAD. period

  56. Lost Ones?
You can’t tell me you don’t hear that song and feel some kind of emotion touch your soul. That’s real life problem being expreesed which is where hip hop began. Pac-esque as well.

    Breakdown?
If you give this song a couple listens and can get a feel for it how can you not relate? We all have parent problems, woman problems. Don’t Breakdown Mama, encouragement to women.

Come on. That’s hip hop. Debut album has a little bit of everything. You telling me people don’t get better year-to-year after they make the League? Cole can still rise, or fall, the answer lies in him.

  57. Yo anyone who thinks Cole Word is better than Carter 4 is fucking retarded son. At this moment, Weezy is obviously better than Gay Cole. Lil Wayne just did a collab with Joe Jonas and just made more money than J Cole will in his entire life. Nuff said.
Also, this gully ass nigga Mr. Wow clearly hasn’t wasted the time to listen to J Cole’s other 600 boring mixtape tracks that weren’t good enough for his debut . The Warm Up has softer, more bitchmade lyrics than WAYNE HAS EVER HAD. real talk

  58. @Mr Wow

And another thing, who are you to start makin claims about “hip hop” when your only discussin about niggas MCing? HIP HOP AINT JUST THE MUSIC PORTION. i.e bboy, graffiti, n DJing are missin

  59. cole world <<<<<<

    extremely mediocre album, fuck y'all.

  60. @mr.Wow, your an idiot.
Weezy is king of the game, but he is also the biggest sell out in the game.

Cole lyrics and flow hasn’t changed since he dropped the Come up, just rhyme schemes and difficulty of flow in lines have.

If Weezy rapped J.Cole, he wouldn’t be the same as when he just does Weezy. And if J.Cole rapped Weezy style I don’t think J would hit that hard. Anyways, your a dumbass.

Weezy King of the Game. But he just retired.
Cole thinking about taking the Crown, he’s already making a claim for it.

  61. haters are just always gonna be there, i’m over it. they were there when workout was released, and 4 months later that shit is still on billboard, has 7.5 mil views on youtube, and its climbin the charts at its highest rate ever. cant get enough hasnt even been pushed by the label yet, has 4 mil views on youtube. dude is #1 on billboard, same ppl hatin now are the ppl said he wasnt gonna drop a album or he was gonna get dropped from the label, or his album was gonna flop. dude already had fans for 3 years before his album dropped so if ppl were sick of his shit he wouldnt have sold 220k, coles here to stay deal with it. cant wait to here the same hate on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th album and so on. hes releasin a collab with kendrick too, youll probly find ways to hate on that. if you cant appreciate this dude for wat he’s doin i wanna hear your favorite artists

  62. @Proto actually no I’m not that dude. I don’t even know who you’re talkin about so…

  63. for the wayne fans up top here’s a few lines, i can give u more if u need it…

“tools on deck, home depot nigga”
    “tote tools like mechanics, mechanisms”
“i already know that life is deep, but i still dig her”
“im tryna walk a straight line, but the line crooked”
“you can have it your way, burger king”

…..and the dude released a song with a fuckin jonas brother, come onnnnn, really?

  64. why whould anybody hate on j. cole wtf he’s doing his thing

  65. @wink364

Well the sad thing is I don’t ever see any of the other elements of hip hop on this site so don’t judge me. All this site showcases are mainly MC’s and this particular post was about a MC. I’m no hater, I am proud for J Cole. I just don’t like it. He had some cool beats though.

  66. @thatrealshit —> http://gifb.in/qNsV
    to that comment @8:20pm

  67. Big Sean said they at the same level!
If he thinks that then this dude can’t be that great

  68. Yeah Buddy!

  69. Even though I think the album is a disappointment compared to some of his mixtapes, I still went out and bought the album. I’m glad to see it top the charts.

  70. @Yeah
“Cole thinking about taking the Crown, he’s already making a claim for it.”
    LOL this guys delusional

    @thatrealshit
    “haters are just always blahblahblah”
how bout coming up with an original response for some of the points thatve been made instead of labeling dissenters as “haters”. get that five year old shit the fuck outta here.
“…that shit is still on billboard, has 7.5 mil views on youtube, and its climbin the charts at its highest rate ever…”
drake did better numbers than that. if we put this guy in the pop nigga category he did OK compared to drake, but drake still stomps this guy in every regard if youre gonna go by how he charted, how many views his youtube vids have garnered, how much airplay hes getting, etc etc. basically everything you said was irrelevant or nicki minaj and drake are the most talented rap artists of the past few years.
“coles here to stay deal with it”
man put your emotions in check. no ones here to take your precious favorite rapper away. im saying hes an off brand drake. sure, hes found success and im glad hes getting paid but be real, this guy isnt revolutionary, in terms of his impact on the genre itself. hes gonna get his and thats fine but hes a pop dude, hes gonna be on pop stations and hes made for a pop audience.
“if you cant appreciate this dude for wat he’s doin i wanna hear your favorite artists”
what exactly is so special about “wat he’s doin” that other rappers aren’t? my favorites (not that this changes anything), at least recently, are jay electronica, pusha t, cory gunz, ghostface, and freddie gibbs. put cole’s bars next to any of these guys’ bars, he doesnt come close.

  71. J. Cole having the number one album in the country is great for Hip Hop. All the hard work has paid off. Congrats to Cole. You deserve it.

  72. @since
An “off brand drake” my ass. Cole>>>>Drake. drake to me is the definition of a sell out. dude hardly even raps anymore. Drake never made songs like lights please, lost ones, breakdown, etc. He is revolutionary. name me a mainstream artist debut album recently that had this subject matter? big sean and cole couldnt be farther apart. i like big sean, but dude doesnt compare to cole’s storytelling ability

  73. Drake is better nuff said

  74. @since

dude above me said a lot of the shit i woulda said. and talk about me gettin emotional? i wasnt even talkin to you and u write on a fuckin essay about me. my point with workout was that ppl were sayin it was a flop, it clearly wasnt. and coles not a rapper that is all about radio play (which is wat drake and nicki are all about and how they design 90% of songs theyve ever made since theyve been signed). my point was that cole is a rapper that can give u a hit thats natural and organic while still staying real and not making his album 12 tracks that reach for the radio (like wiz, big sean, drake, etc.) my point was that dudes have been sayin the same shit about cole since he’s got signed and all he’s done is prove the same ppl wrong consistently. the dude clearly isnt “pop”. workout maybe the only borderline song u can call out, idk wat else is pop. doesnt sound like u listened to the album, or any of his other shit. i respect your favorites but 80% of them dont have an album at this point, and wat cole did when he had a lot of ppl pushin and pullin him for creative control of his work was pretty special compared to other newcomers (wiz, big sean, drake, wale). idk how u can listen to simba, lil ghetto nigga, how high, rise and shine, gods gift, farewell, etc. and say the dude is pop and cant hang with the dudes u listed. i just think ur judgin him off the shit u hear on the radio, but ur not seein the whole picture, u gotta broaden ur perspective on the subject. sorry for gettin lengthy but i didnt hav much of a choice with all the shit u threw at me for no reason

  75. Shoulda done a million

  76. Congratulations! Good to see all the hard work is paying off. This guy gave us a lot of FREE music before dropping an album. I’m satisfied with the album just as much as I am the mixtapes. $11 for an album after all that music and some people still complain about the final project. Ungrateful as hell.

  77. @Chris_Zurcher
    “Cole>>>>Drake”
YEAH i agree. but its like comparing the experience of being halfway submerged or completely submerged in a vat of hot diarrhea.
“drake to me is the definition of a sell out.”
yeah cuz he was quality before thank me later dropped. gtfo.
    “He is revolutionary.”
LOL, no. look up the word revolutionary, then get back to me, explain what exactly, SPECIFICALLY, cole does thats revolutionary. dumbass.
“name me a mainstream artist debut album recently that had this subject matter?”
this subject matter? you mean like that song where he talks about getting deepdicked raw from a female perspective? yeah, i cant think of anyone else doing that.
“big sean and cole couldnt be farther apart.”
did i even mention big sean? or are you just talking to yourself here? big sean needs to be pushed head first into a wood chipper too.

  78. Lol, whatever Cole’s doin, he’s doin it right. He got people writing essays *cough* siNce *cough* just to tell other people that they don’t like him.

  79. lol…I rarely reply to comments but after reading some of these I had to. First of all this is to whoever reads and disagrees wit it but if you ever!! Put J.Cole and Lil Wayne in the same category as far as lyrical talent then you should just really give up in life cuz thats the most stupidest thing ive ever heard. Yea Yea of course Wayne is where he’s at right now cuz the nigga has been signed since he was 12 and was part of one of the biggest rap groups.Wayne also changed the game wit the Dedications and Droughts but to say he’s better than Cole RIGHT NOW AT RAPPIN is dead. He uses the most recycled punchlines in history but he knows that shallow niggas like you will buy into it. For people that say he wont have longevity need to sit and think about that again as well. Nowadays I really think numbers and record sales are irrelevant in this generation and Carter IV was ther perfect example. Wat yall fail to realize is that Drake(got alot repsect for Drake) had a MAJOR single in “Best I ever had” and he joined the alliance of the nigga who was at the Top of the Game so I wasnt surprised he sold that much but you talk about J.Cole who hasnt really had a smash single or not ALOT of promo?? There’s a reason why his album that he mainly produced( not alot of artist can produce there whole first album wit exceptions) is #1 on the billboard sellin 217k first week and the simple fact is that J.COLE CAN FUCKING RAP!!! PERIOD!! People say he’s too boring or Mediocre or he’s just an average rapper..smh Naww nigga do your research you cant tell me Dead President 2, Lost Ones, Killers, Can I Live, Rags to Riches, All the Simbas, Before Im Gone, 2face, The Autograph (just to name a few) are average raps. Wayne along wit alot of other rappers can make a song like Lost Ones and capture every detail like Cole did. And you kno wat this generation is so critical of artist nowadays, I really think if Tupac would have came out in this generation still spittin the way he did, I think alot of yall haters would call him wack or mediocre and hate on him too…smh Right Now I see Cole and Kendrick being the 2 rawest lyricist in the game right now #ColeWorld #HiiiPower

  80. where is the real NYC/BROOKLYN? it’s boring as hell on 2dope without one of his rants.

  81. @random
im sorry that your reading comprehension is limited to a 3rd grade level. it must be very difficult for you living in an adult world. next time, my response will consist of bright colors and pictures, just for you.

  82. Real talk too much people are hating on this. This album is dope. Anyone who says otherwise is crazy. No single nothing fancy just beats(most of which he produce) and lyricism. On top of that only 2 other rappers have verses on this album. this nigga is dope and the return of raw lyricism. anyone who is hating listen to his mixtapes. and not just fiday night lights I mean the come up and the warm up too. both are dope and anyone who says he is whack after hearing those either has no taste or is just hating for no reason.

  83. @thatrealshit
“and not making his album 12 tracks that reach for the radio (like wiz, big sean, drake, etc.)”
yeah. i dont like any of those fags. but i think its less of ‘he doesnt make tracks for radio’ as much as it is ‘hes less likeable than those 3 clowns and not nearly as appealing to the 12-19 demographic’.
“i respect your favorites but 80% of them dont have an album at this point”
yeah. its difficult figuring out who raps better when people dont release a full length debut. its like there’s nothing to go by to compare, aside from numerous official mixtapes, singles, and features on other rappers’ tracks. one jay electronica song > jcole’s debut album.
    “wiz, big sean, drake, wale”
again, mentioning mediocre fags that rap for women.
“simba, lil ghetto nigga, how high, rise and shine, gods gift, farewell”
ive listened to all of those on youtube, ive listened to his top tracks on last.fm actually. i really did give it a chance to see what all the hype was about. set all bias and expectations aside. but the shit would just bore me 30 seconds in every time. if you can show me the exact point in one of these songs where he destroys it, please, point me to it.

  84. @ since

ur havin the wrong debate if ur analysis of lost ones is “a song where he talks about gettin deepdicked raw from a female perspective” u sound like a ignorant muhfucka man. honestly there isnt another mainstream artist makin songs like that. name a dude who’s sold as much as cole with songs like lost ones, breakdown, lights please, never told, and sideline story on there debut album…there isnt one in the last 3-4 years. thats why ppl call his shit revolutionary (not sayin that i am, it takes a while to make that decision) but that fact is, cole has shit on his debut which hasnt been seen in popular hip hop in the last few years. theres no point of comparison for him recently, he did somethin completely fresh, some ppl might define that as revolutionary. however u look at it, his success doesnt deserve all the hate ur givin it, theres other artists out there that deserve all this negativity well before cole

  85. @ since jay electronica needs to drop his album and that nigga is older and way more experienced you may not like j. cole now but let that nigga grow and develop and maybe things will change. idk man but your entitled to your opinion i think your crazy for not liking him but hey nothing i can do to change that gotta leave that to the artist so yall niggsa shut up and stop with the back and forth

  86. @ since

how u gonna say point out an exact point in a song. its about the emotion that goes into the entire track. like gimme your favorite line from keep ya head up, or baby dont cry, or do for love, or thugz mansion (not sayin cole is tupac, just usin it as a point of reference). like u cant do that with storytellers. gimme the best line from one love, the world is yours, i gave you power…it doesnt work like that. the point of the music is the story and the reality he’s givin you, he’s not tryna drop gems on u, he’s tryna show ppl he’s been there too and inspire some ppl

  87. @New_Black_Elite
    I agree 10000000000000032467567784378345277894352897432987%
I’m so sick of people being into fads. I dug Waynes old stuff but I think he lost it for the most part. Drake is Dope, Nicki is nice, but only get the accolades she does because she the only chick out…..If another girl whose serious with a decent image comes out then she’ll probably be put down to status or get back to spitting her raw *Smack DVD shiii*. Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole & Big K.R.I.T. all got next PERIOD!
The fact that Wayne sold a mili in a week just lets me know that sales aren’t really shiiii anymore. I rather Drake sell a milli. Wale is cool 2…
aside from Drake & Nicki the YM empire is gonna be hanging by a thread & soon passed over & all these cats aside from the ones I mentioned above will be non-mutha-f**kin factors in rap.

  88. Thats the hook right there!

  89. during all this bickering and bitching people forgot that J.Cole’s Album is just that…. J. Cole’s album… everyone is always trying to compare one to some shit that isn’t even comparable. Who died and told some of you that you have the authority to determine whether or not someone is “hip hop”. get over this “i’m a rap snob and i don’t like anything” shit. Hip hop has all kinds of sub genres now. So if you don’t like it then don’t listen. You mad because he moved units? Do you get payed if he DOESN’T move units? what are you gonna do? Kill J. Cole because he made it? the conversation ended when one of you said “if he’s so hot how come underground niggas like me don’t feel him?”

    1. you don’t speak for every “underground nigga”
    2. there’s more to life than “underground”
    3. if “underground niggas like me” is another way of saying that you’re a rapper as well, then you’ve just furthered proved to the world that you can’t stand the fact that he’s doing numbers simply because YOU AREN’T…

If you’re gonna speak “truth” then you need to speak it accurately and without the bias bullshit.

Props to J. Cole. His first album and he won… he worked hard and developed faithful fans and his camp deserves to breathe and experience success… the same success that most of the nay sayers in here hope to see one day.

  90. @thatrealshit

The reason why people say Cole sold out or is pop is because he doesnt push the type of songs that you named to radio. He pushes Drakish sounding rap/R&B records to radio and drops songs like Return of Simba and Gods Gift outside of radio. Now people gonna say those songs aint gonna work but who made that rule? Who says those type of songs wont work if nobody trys? Cole had the perfect position to change the game because at the end of the day, Jayz gives him leverage over the industry. All these songs that you say are so revolutionary have been done by other artists this year but its just that nobody really knows and to be honest only hardcore fans of Cole know those songs you named. Unless somebody bought or downloaded his album then the only songs they know from him is Work Out, Cant Get Enough and In The Morning and those songs are not revolutionary. Your paint Cole has if he’s on fire like 50 cent or Drake when they came out and thats not the case im sorry. His fans will be happy but theres still too many people out there that dont even know Cole is a lyrical rapper. Changing whats on radio is revolutionary, dropping lyrical songs on the internet or on non singles off the album is done all the time by many different artists.

  91. At the end of the day, these are just opinions and not facts! Ya take things to far, just appreciate the good music being made

  92. Now that doesnt take away from his success thus far and im not saying he doesnt have skills but im just telling you the main reason why some hip hop heads are upset. Its like Jayz puts out a hardcore record as a single first at all times for every album no matter what. Cole could have done the same. If Jay Electronica drops his first single talking about “All my ladies get low and shake that thang down to the flo” I mite write that nigga a fuck you letter.

  93. Yall nigga on here writing PARAGRAPHS at 12,1 in the damn Morning LMAO
Yall Lost,Cole Won, Get a Fucking Life, no one cares about your shitty ass opinions.

  94. I sent him a message on twitter @JColeNC that I havent bought an album since SH, and Im glad I did. His album is great!

  95. Its 10:30 on the westcoast btw so its still early.

  96. @ marty mcfly

name me one artist that changed whats on the radio. none of illmatic was on the radio, reasonable doubt had no radio hits, the problem with ready to die was that it wasnt “radio enough” for puff. ppl rarely change whats on the radio and if they do, they dont do it for good, because the radio is always gonna be wat it is, dumbed down and poppy. the contemporary music market the way it is its impossible to get play with a deep song, lil wayne is makin songs with a jonas brother, kanye is makin songs with katy perry, luda is makin songs with beiber. ghetto dreams by common didnt get play, nasty by nas didnt. ive said before on here that i wish cole had the balls to drop lost ones as a single but the reality of the situation is that would flop hard and less ppl would become aware of it that are now bc he wouldnt have gotten shine thru songs like workout and cant get enough. idk how u can say coles not 50 or drake, theyre completely different ppl and coles released one single that hasnt even peaked yet. ppl just jump to conclusions on this site and dont admit theyre wrongs when they do. fact is, cole made the realest album of any “mainstream” rookie in a while and he old sold them all, thats an accomplishment. ppl alwas gotta compare when when u look at it in the contemporary music scene, the dude made a major accomplishment. thats it, im done, but thats my opinion on the topic

  97. @ marty mcfly

btw even ur boy jigga released show me wat u got, 03 bonnie and clyde, and HAM, all recently too which speaks to how the industry has changed. i wont even get started on him, ive learned jay z can do kno wrong in your eyes

  98. @thatrealshit

The test if Work Out is a hit or not is by asking yourself how many times you play it. Not what everybody else thinks so if you still playing it and enjoying it then most likely others will feel the same way but if the song is losings its fire to you then it is what it is. Now you say his other type of songs wouldnt work on radio but your underestimating the people who listen to radio because Kanye had his first two singles on radio before Slow Jams, the same with Lupe and the same with most of T.Is first singles. Albums like Reasonable Doubt and Ready to Die had material for radio but since that was too long ago ill just leave that alone but who made that rule that you cant change whats on radio or at least add balance to it? All that shit is in the mind of the artist, they tell themselves that they cant win with real hip hop and they gotta make shit thats not really them. Ross came in with Hustlin so Cole could have made whatever he wanted as long as it was dope but Work Out doesnt really do his album justice.

  99. @thatrealshit

Its not that Jayz can do no wrong in my eyes because I can name albums that I listen too more then his albums BUT do your research and go back and point out all his first single for all his albums then ask yourself if he was dropping real shit or bullshit as singles? The truth is right there so its no conspiracy cause if rappers wanted to blow up with real hip hop records then there is more then enough examples from other artists who did it every year for the first half of their career. Simple as that

  100. I’m from the Ville. Can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am of this dude. I meet him maybe a year ago in person & he freestyled at poetry night [for a spot that's no longer in existence lol] and I immediately thought, yo, he remind me of Lupe. Took home the mixtape he was handing out (The Warm Up) and my thought process totally changed. It’s so ill to someone from my hometown do it like this. I beam every time I hear good news about him.
& I think he’s kinda cute, ya know, for a light skin dude. lol

  101. Im just gonna let it go cause ya’ll already know my opinion anyway but some of ya’ll are putting alot on it like he’s this revolutionary that changed the game. If you want that then go back and listen to Dead Prez first single for they album now imagine if they had a major platform like your favorite rapper does.

  102. Im SoO Proud of niGgy J. We greW up in dA Vill non StoppiN son! We fInAllY made this ShYYYYt real. WE REAL AND doin it!!!!!! BiG upS to Sean Don The lil donG! I sEe u Dtown! And foR the Record….I dont knoW what E iz tAlking Bout. We nevz seEn him herr in da Vill?????? HUUUUUUUH?

    RIP Ja Rule….True Thug

    Yo boi…bleEcha-FaBo*NigG (ClaSSic 4sho)

  103. @since Cory gunz? hes become a laughing stock lol and his flow is tired FOH and freddie gibbs can be argued maybe…pusha can be argued too but he cant go a song without making a coke reference (still my man tho big clipse fan)….but ghostface and jay electronica are on another level….u shortsiding cole papo

  104. J.cole is a beast fuck what everybody thinks, I’m down here in south africa and every nigga here is on some j.cole ish, ya niggas better stop hating on cole and go out and hustle maybe jigga might also land you a deal if u claim u better than cole, fuck ya’ll cole represent niggas like me who never had nothing handed

  105. Look for all of you idiots expecting the greatest compilation of songs on a debut album and then getting butthurt when you dont get it STFU. The album is a dope, his mixtapes are more lyrical, this is more mainstream but still has the same mixtape feel. So stop being dumbasses and saying Wayne is better RIGHT NOW. the best song on the Carter 4 Wayne wasnt even on it so STFU and respect Carolina hip hop. BTW Charity Starts at Home is a fuckin classic!

  106. @thatrealshit tell em who’s real!

  107. @Mr.Wow i think most ppl are saying that Cole being number is good 4 HipHop isnt all about him being the next lgend or Nas etc.

it has more to do with the fact JCole patterns himself as a new school “Traditional Lyricist MC”. so the fact that a Traditional Lyricist MC” has the #1 Album in the Country is an Amazing feat that has probably only happend a few times before

so of course ppl are happy a guy like JCole is doing so well for the type of rapper he is and how u represents the culture

  108. My Man!!!!! #1…..Cant Take that away!…..Hot Album…..Orlando Show was crazy!!…..You Killin It

  109. here goes.
    J. Cole’s plan from the VERY BEGINNING has ALWAYS been to remain relevant YEEEARS after he stops rapping in a manner similar to NAS, PAC, BIGGIE, JAY, and yes. WAYNE.
his FAVORITE RAPPERS and INFLUENCE are NAS and PAC.

    people and artists GROW.
listen to pac’s 1998 greatest hits album objectively and compare it to Cole’s music. THEY ARE VEEERY SIMILAR.

the same way the older generation revels in the “glory days” subjectively. is the same way the younger generation revels in ppl like J. Cole now.

    the end.

  110. Dudes comparing Carter 4 to Sideline Story now? Check your arguments.

  111. Only good carter was 2

  112. LOL evidence, phonte, and 9th wonder sold 20k combined

  113. all of those artists’ albums^^^ are on par with cole world. charity starts at home is actually better. plus theyre on independent labels so theyre getting more money from every album sold than cole is.
