Amongst talk of his new album (Cole World: The Sideline Story, 9/27) and the sex tape rumors with Rihanna, J. Cole lists off his top five favorite rappers of all time.
2Pac
Andre 3000
Eminem
Jay-Z
Nas
Pretty typical list, but hey… it’s all opinion right?
Interviews, Video

didn’t he put Nas over Jay in the last video?
…biggie?
1. Not everyone feels Biggie is on their top 5.
2. He did say no particular order…but did even in this video say Nas first (though it doesn’t matter)…did you watch the video before commenting?
He’s definitely sick of everyone bringing him Krispy Kremes.
Where the hell is biggie seriously even eminem would not agree with his spot on the list no biggie what a bitch and i actually like cole world
Whoever gets mad at another persons top 5 list is a BITCH, its their list and personal opinion. You dont have to like it, you know why ? cause its not your list. Fuckin dumbassses i tell you..anyway 9/27 almost here ! go cop!
I mite buy this nigga album just for having my nigga 3000 in his top 5.This nigga just might know a lil something about music.
I know I will get crucified for being 100% honest but here we go….
Biggie and Pac are both HIGHLY OVERRATED. Pac was a great story teller/entertaining, but he was not that lyrical. If you look up the lyrics to his songs, they’re very average compared to the vocabulary/metaphors used by dope rappers in hip hop now. Biggie had a great flow/charisma, but he was not that lyrical either. If you just take the time to look up their lyrics they’re for the most part generic and simple. Did they make great songs? Yes, but not lyrical.
yeah i would take out em and put in big but other than that the list is straight, better than most people’s lists… if andre 3000 isn’t in your top 5 you are losing
@FakirWise
Thought it was a different video, but i was going based of the list posted. I had saw this video earlier today on another site and thought i watched it here.
@Rezo
At some points, I would agree with that. I tried to bring up the argument of why I think Nas is better than Pac to some younger people. two of them thought that I was stupid, but only one of those three ACTUALLY listens to Pac and he was considering all of my points.
@This post
My top 5 is kind of like this, but no Biggie or Jay is included.
The Cole album was good, solid. Not great, but it will be in rotation for a minute. The haters were wrong, but so were the Stans. He laid a foundation to build on, I look forward to see his maturation as an artist.
anyone who thinks em isn’t top 5 needs to get their head examined
People its not about being lyrical, Its about a rapper demeanor, delivery and getting his or her point across. Tupac was the least lyrical but he require a voice that people seem to listen to and his songs are intentional to get his across. Drake is a great story teller and same as biggie and the rest . But what POSITIVE songs that they have done to effect the population ? HipHop Fans in this generation dont even like to or hear positive songs no more because all you hear on the radio is straight club bangers and bedroom music. Nas got positive songs but he gets boring sometimes like he dont what that much attention like he comfortable playing in the backfield. Pac was aggressive and ambitious, in and out the studio. Most of these rappers are stuck in one lane and subject matters like Ross, Drake , Wiz Kalifa , Eminem until the recovery and ect
1. BASED GOD
2. BASED GOD
3. BASED GOD
4. LIL B
5. BASED GOD
SWAGGED OUT LIST
but in all seriousness i’d go
Nas
Hova
Em
Biggie
(and i’m finna get crucified for this, but) Ye
I know the c-section isn’t about to have a debate about Pac……when will you fools let the man rest?
Hell, even all these additional rappers are getting mentioned unnecessarily. The man stated who HE sees as his top 5. Where do YOU fit into that?
ness nitty is fucking bang-able. i would stick that
Substitute Biggy for 2Pac. I like 2Pac’s music as much as any early 80′s baby hip-hop lover, but as far as lyrical ability goes he is the most overrated rapper of all time. Cultural icon? Yes. Top 5 rapper of all time? Not even close
@prk
He said Pac is, in his opinion, the greatest rapper of all time and no particular order after that.
Nas, 3000, Rakim, 2pac, Jay-Z. 1-5.
biggie was the most talented rapper of all time, period. the subject matter might not have necessarily been there, but nobody flowed as effortlessly as big
Some say the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice, I say the darker the skin the deeper the roots – Tupac … and you say pac aint lyrical.. nikkas look up any song and you will see
yall crazy… thats a solid list… wutang, dmx, biggie, etc deserve spots but you only get 5… thats too easily filled… top 100 is what i would need
IMO most of these new niggas some of you say are so dope are lyrically average as fuck. Pac did more songs in his life then most of these other rappers did after him with their whole career. Consistency requires lyricism and on top of that he made SONGS – Keep your head up, Hearts of men, I aint mad at cha and Blasphemy. Not just a bunch of metaphors, punchlines and wordplay tricks that really mean nothing special. Now some of you saying Big was overrated? Go back and listen to both his albums then shut the fuck up.
extremely awkward interview
And Nas was not greater then Pac when he was alive. He did ten albums after Pac was dead and wasnt able to compete so with all do respect to Nas, if Pac never died chances are he’d still be mobbin on everybody.
first off, I don’t give a flying fuck about anyone’s top 5 fav rappers. I already knew this nigga wasn’t going to say BIG, he never really gave BIG props in his older interviews, so I don’t expect this nigga now or in the near future to give it. BIG is the patron saint of Brooklyn. a e-bitch-slap goes out to the niggaz saying BIG is “over-rated” and wasn’t that “lyrical”. BIG was ORIGINAL, LYRICAL and HIGHLY INSPIRATIONAL. three characteristics A. Hole lacks in the game. the nigga BIG birthed plenty of rappers from his era and today’s era. again, I don’t give a fuck if A. Hole had BIG on his list or not. I’m not surprised when it comes to the lack of hip hop knowledge from this herb. he’s a wannabe hip hop head who can’t give straight answers about the culture. the nigga probably never heard of Kool Herc or Afrika Bambaataa and probably thinks hip hop started with jay-z’s blueprint. the nigga is too lazy and full of himself to do his studies and research hip hop history. he’s part of the new generation of studio artificial insemination artists, with no knowledge in how the culture was created. krispy kreme niggaz gettin’ COONED on interviews.
A. HOLE YOU PAPOOSED YOURSELF!!!©
Andre 3000 is so overated hes part of 1if the best grouos but where is his indivdual classics and in tired of niggas forgetting that fuckinh big pun was a beast lyricaly and flow wise and why does it seem like if they didnt come out in the 90s there not allowed in your top 5 why cant i put beanie sigel in my top 5?
@nyminmike

jayz has to be in anybody top 5 the man has argubuly 3 or 4 classuc albums Rd,bp1,black album and some ecen say american gangster and bp2 he formed the biggest hiphop movement ever, survived 2pac and nas disses ,all his albums platinum he basically had 3 careers the 90s boom bap rap jay when he was most lyrical, early 2000s jay when he was makn classic memorible songs like hard knock life, big pimn, izzo ,now the new age jay that is 43 and is still relavant never had to use autotune or use some gimmick the dude is basically silent until he drops a album ..and another thing how can anybody say eminem killed jay on renagade if jay has the most qouted line from the song, think about it? The line wgere he says do you nigga listen to music or jusr skim through it i thibk you sheep just say it because nas said it. Jay outlasted every rapoer from his time and the the earyly 2000s and prolly will outlast niggas from this period too
ask 100 people their top 5 list, and you will get 100 different answers. It shows there aint no best. Only in the hyper-competitive world of hiphop do we even have such lists. no one argues if Mozart was better then Beethoven, or bob marley better then the Beatles. enjoy the music, and be grateful for all the artists on your list.
lol @ someone putting game in their top 5. haaaaaaaaa
Lol at B.I.G being inspirational,Pac was more inspiring B.I.G
Jay-Z
Nas
Andre 3000
Lupe

Beanie Sigel
Meek Mill
Lupe Fiasco
2pac
Andre 3000
Weezy
Jay-Z
Nas
(also @god damn ur list is the worst list on here.)
Yall have to understand that music is an opinionated thing and not fact based unless you’re talking album sales. In that, no one’s “best list” is incorrect because it’s a qualitive measure. The way we value the quality of music is different and a personal thing. Plus, top 6 favorite and top 5 greatest lists are different measures. I respect J.Cole’s list.
My personal top 5 favorite rappers:
Cee-Lo
Andre 3000
Nas
Jay-Z
Lupe Fiasco
Top 5 Greatest List:
Tupac
Biggie
Jay-Z
Rakim
Nas
Andre 3000 is not top 5! He was in a group & he didn’t out shine Big Boi ever time. He has an advantage. He only had to rite one verse per song usually. He’s only had one solo project (technically). my top 5 is Biggie/Jay/Pac/Nas/Kanye. I say Kanye because look at his impact & his originality. Ye did something for the game that hasnt been done since NWA made gangsta rap.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqTgKpfR1uM&feature=player_embedded
GRAND HUSTLE MUDAFUCKAS BOB IS BACK, DIS SONG GO SO HARD I CRIED MY EYES OUT. FUCK ROCNATION, GOOD MUSIC, YMCMB – ITS GRAND HUSTLE TIME NOW BITCHES. KING!
@Breezy970: Meek Mill?! Really? That’s a top ten rapper?
1) Scarface
2) Jay-Z
3) Big Boi (might catch shit for this, but Sir Lucious is the best rap album since the first Blueprint)
4) 2pac
5) The Notorious B.I.G.
*6) Ghostface Killah
*7) Bun B
*8) Nas (Illmatic, Stillmatic and God’s Son are great, but anyway you slice it he’s had a spotty career given is talent)
*9) Ice Cube
*10) Kanye or Common (Can’t decide)
lmao unfortunately … no
man you guys are some big and pac stans
had they never died they’d be on the same level as Jay and Nas, and nobody would get all emotional when they’re not on someone’s list
MF DOOM
Mos Def
Eminem
Biggie
Nas
NO ORDER.
IDK…
Ive pretty much grown past Pac and Biggie. Sure I will always see them as legends and pioneers in Hip Hop…but are they on my top 5? They’ve transcended that list when they became legends.
1) Slum Village
2) Common
3) Nas
4) Curren$y
5) Eminem
If J.cole stays on track, he has a good chance to make this list one day.
My top 5 in PARTICULAR order:
1)2pac aka Makaveli
2)Nas
3)Jay-Z
4)Biggie Smalls
5)Kanye West (the man has at least 3 classics under his belt)

HONORABLE MENTION – T-PAIN
A. HOLE YOU PAPOOSED YOURSELF!!!©
Easy:
- Dylan
- Dylan
- Dylan
- Dylan
- Dylan
Pretty typical list because everybody’s been saying basically the same shit since the 90′s. The order might change around depending on who you ask, but you always hear the same names. The last decade has provided nobody to crack these top-whatever lists. Kind of a shame.
Top
1. Pac
2. Em
That’s all.
Jay-Z stole 90% of BIGS written shit after he passed.
Nas overrated.
^^^flag THIS comment
jigga got plenty of quotables…i can go for days on his hottest lines…
Not originally his lines but okay.
ha j. cole was about to say how he doesn’t like everyone bringing him donuts, but they cut him off at the end lol
Shake, post J. Cole’s new video, “Daddy’s Little Girl”. It’s decent.
@intrepretur your stupid as hell you must not heard all of jays shit jay-z best shit is his shit nobody quotes jay-z on a line he got from biggie all jayz quotables are his lines his best album reasonable doubt had no biggie lines when jay uses biggies lines there usually fillers to set up a crazy line just llike rppers take poet lines and ancient philosopher lines and turn them to rap lines 2pacs blacker the berry sweater the juice?kill your self if you think pac made that line up biggies i love you like cooked food line that everybody quotes? thats a richard pryor line people seem to only think jay-z bowred lines
in order: Jay-Z
Nas
BIG
Em
Pun
3K
Ghost
Rae
Kiss
Common
Kanye
My Top 5 of All Time:
1. Nas (Great lyricism and storytelling, as well as having one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time.)
2. Tupac (Made a big mark on the game, along with Biggie. Just a really positive attitude and spoke on things that most didn’t at the time. May not have had metaphors or wordplay like others, but really made you connect with him.)
3. Andre 3000 (A lot of creativity and flow as well. Style is unique and cannot be touched.)
4. Eminem (Sick with both wordplay, extended metaphors and flow. A great storyteller as well as having some great creativity *Sing For The Moment, Role Model, Square Dance, etc*.)
5. Rakim/Big Daddy Kane (it could go either way with those two. Both left a big mark on the game and set a lot of blueprints for the [then] future generation.)
Jay, Biggie, and a lot of other Greats are most likely in my Top 20.
LOL @ Kanye being in the Top 5 of all time…ALL TIME!
@the kids go listne to meek mill tony story or love dont live here it my change the perseption of him alot of hiphop heads tinks hes all about club bangers and shit dudes liek sean price 9th wonder cormega styles all gave him props on the tony story rack i didnt realize how many people and resoect he got in the north east until i went up there and the radio was playing some deep stuff ross just got him on some mainstreams hi rite nw to get his buzz up
y not? he is the most influential rapper of this generation. And he has more classic albums under his belt then most rappers. People put Andre 3000 in their top 5, and he hasn’t done shit as a solo artist. He’s dope but if you put him up there because of pure skill, then I believe Big Pun and Big L trumps him
biggie ain’t in a lot of people’s top list honestly…why ? idk..smh
…
Target giving out $1,000 giftcards http://goo.gl/7L9QW ..4 their 30th anniversary..next 24 hours only..all my school shit paid 4!
@markmadness
Is that english? It’s obvious you didn’t steal any written shit like Jay. Grammar and punctuation both go a long way when trying to get your ignorant point across.

No order, all these people have contributed the most in my opinion.
Opinion is opinion…but I’m starting to see some WACK ASS LISTS. Damn.
@Pauly Dee
Not everyone can have the perfect stereotypical list like you
These lists…and Nas overrated? The fuck.
who the fuck is Eminem ? that guy is dead, to me hes not top5
so many people could be the top fives of hip hop but sum niggaz are first
Kool G Rap
LL Cool J
Chuck D
Raekwon
Madvillian
@Pauly
Go look at Rakims career and then compare that to Jayz ( or anybody else on that list ), then look at andre 3000 solo career and put that up next to Biggie. HELLO and if you cant recite a tleast three Big Daddy Kane songs word for word off the top of your head then he has no business on your list cause you aint really a fan of his. Ev >>> BME
No particular order..
Pac
Jay
Nas
Kanye
Rakim
@Playaplayer ; Outkast is a group dummy. you might as well add Wu-Tang Clan, and the Fugees to your list. the real list is fact not fiction: pac, big, nas, jayz, eminem
1. Nas
2. Black Thought
3. Pharoahe Monch (Idk why no one put him in their top 5 yet his career is damn near perfect)
4. Kool G Rap
5. GZA
6. Biggie
7. Andre 3000
8. Redman
9. Jay-z
10. Rakim

@kango STFU LMAO
top 5 (in no Order)
5.Eminem
4.Jay-z
3.Tupac
2.Scarface
1.Andre 3000
that reporter was fineeee lol . cole is a real cool dude
its kinda pointless to ask this particular question because everyone is gonna have the same handful of artists in every list [Pac, Big, Jay, Nas and now 3 stacks can be added too...] but we should expect this, this shouldnt be a surprise.
Depending on where the artist from and where his/her ears are at, youre gonna hear the same list over and over.
why all these “black rappers” keep putting Em on their top 5 lists? Nothing Em every rhymed about resonated with me… EVER.
Nas # 5? WTF??
Biggie? Kanye? Wu? Old skool legends?
Damn. Thats why his rhymes are unsaturated.
Listen rap is about opinion and where you’re mind is positioned the argument of the greatest rapper cannot be put to bed what is the criteria to paint the greatest rapper it cannot be based on just hollywood t.v or glamour alone among several factors work ethic essence or elements count a great deal for me I feel nas was more at home or at breast with the art than tu-pac he was able to balance imagination heart and tears than pac especially the specifics nas was very technical so was krs biggie rakim scarface and so on.in a nutshell j.cole was a bit on point but I felt he should have put biggie rakim krs and left out eminem but the list is average. Here’s mine
Krs/Nas
Rakim. Biggie
Kool G Rap
Jay-Z
Even though a few would agree
